the driver probably had 1 drop in that location and probably due too the size of load only way to deliver it was on a artic, yes as the driver was approaching the T-junction he was intending on turning left and THEN saw the no entry sign and had no choice but to turn right which messed up his positioning, but fair play too the driver for keeping calm and getting out of the jam he was in. as for all the car beeping i bet they soon stopped when they saw what the reason was lol
Looks like the truck wanted to go left at 3:02 onwards, but then gave up and went right. He would not have positioned so far to the right if he was intending to go right all along.
What exactly was going on here? I'm having trouble faulting the car drivers much as they seem surprised to see a 44 ton artic squeezing its way through the already congested narrow streets of a mediaeval town, barely wide enough for two cars to pass. The driver of the red escort certainly wasn't expecting one on the wrong side of a 2-way street quite close to a blind junction (hence the STOP sign) - even though it then turned right... (?!)
Something must have been up, otherwise why film it?
Cant really blame the guy in the Astra fully, truck had no indicator on and looked like it was making a left turn not a right. So there both really to blame.
the cars were most likely pissed off at yet another HGV not taking the long way round into Shaftesbury & therefore blocking up an already congested old town of tiny lanes & roads. There is no reason for him to take that hill into Shaftesbury.
two words diff locks old son if its there . use the sonbitch / ive been in worse places at worse times ...sh.t happens . keep the faith ..if they want clothes or electrical goods then .,,,put up with it , how did the camera or phone videoing this poor blokes mishap get too the shop ? obviously pixey wings or by carrier pigeon haulage
@curryhousekarl Not every truck has a diff lock. It`s a option on light long distence trucks. What works is get the yellow line of the trailer and put the hand brake on. It helpt me several times.
this is pretty stupid & dangerous. in the U.S. we make large trucks have escort vehicles out on the highway... and in town! we make them have a police escort to clear and block off road as necessary
Great driving by a skilled hgv driver, problems are caused by brain dead road departments with no or very poor and late signs, or just plain stupid car drivers who have NO idea the problems and angles this size of vehicle have , A massive well done to the driver for coping weather or not a mistaken turn was taken or no not...Total respect
HAHA! I love this video. I drive a tractor trailer lowboy in Seattle hauling construction equipment around. I spend 85% of my day IN the city. Our streets aren't as fucked as in Europe but its pretty much the same. People lose their minds when they see you coming. Get all in your way. Yell at you. I laugh at them all day. They'll move eventually, they always do.
@SahRacer01 . The second axle isn't driven on this unit, it's there to carry weight only. The driver has done the right thing in lifting the second axle as it helps to put more weight on the drive wheels, it also help the unit turn tighter aswell. Sometimes you can play about with the trailer axles to help traction, if it's got a rear lift, making sure it's down helps, if it's a front lift, lifting it helps. It's all about getting weight on the drive wheels.
look at the total tits in the cars . says it all , well done to the driver of the truck , what the hell was the tosser in the white van trying to do ?.
Maybe this wouldnt work caz his load wud be to big but wud a 6 or 8 wheel rigid not be alot easier to use if the company needs to go places like that? its not really the drivers fault. and what is his wheels spinnin on anyway ?
if he didnt swing out, he would have taken the house to his right with him!!! Im a Class one HGV driver and looks to me like the wrong truck in the wrong place at the wrong time - as other people have said he doesnt want to cause mayhem, he just trying to earn a living.. arnt we all??? Oh and to usual fuckwits atempting to drive their cars never cease to amaze me....
@sandimike I've seen this done on narrow roads, I believe the over hang at the rear of the trailer would have swung out and hit the buildings on his left as he locked hard to the right. Happened me with a bus in stopped traffic, bus was in right hand lane beside me, he decided to lock hard to take right turn, rear of bus swung in on top of me.
@splifftin2 totally agree, people have no patience anymore and are very rude, don't give a damn attitude, if it wasnt for trucks delivering goods people would have nothing, yes it is very stressfull for me too
if your not from the local area and your delivery takes you or tells you to take this route how do you know its unsuitable, from what i understand at the time there were no signs telling hgv drivers that this was an unsuitable route, as a artic bulk tipper driver i have to go to farms out in the middle of no where though small villages etc..what else do you do. get the farmer to wheelbarrow it to you..if you want goods you will have trucks and the train down stop in the highstreet..
@eastindiaman Since when do you know everyones delivery address, 1 they do have the right to be there, 2 they paid thousands in road tax. 3, at the time, there were no HGV restrictions on that road. And Dont think about blaming the driver For bad signage
he would get less traction if the mid lift was dropped you idiot. the mid lift is a dead axle. all it would of done is take pressure off the drive axle and make it spin even more. if you don't know what you're talking about then don't comment al all
At least you got out. The last couple of minutes really pissed me off, the guy in the silver astra didn't help at all. And what the hell do all the idiots beeping their horns think they were going to achieve????. People just don't give a shit about commercial drivers.
driver got into a situation made a mistake !should have stopped and checked it out before going nose in. situation not helped by gawpers and impatent cage drivers especially the astra van driving muppet. why did no one assist the waggon driver by stopping the traffic instead of watching hoping he was gonna collide with something?
I've experienced this kind of trouble, especially when working for firms who don't give you a proper delivery address and supermarket who expect you to know where all there stores are, even in city centre's. The driver deserves praise as if you haven't been somewhere before you don't know what you are going to come up against no matter how good your map/sat nav is! Any hgv driver who says the have never got into a similar predicament is lying!
Thanks. I felt it needed saying that the driver doesn't always get a fair chance from the office staff and that we, after all, are human beings and this type of predicament will always happen regardless of what measure's are put in place, now or in the future.
This is a real classic case of must follow the Sat Nav. This road is not clearly not for those lorries. On the wrong side of the road. How much rear and front over swing did he have.
I bet that made the thing a whole lot easier for the guy, knowing some dead-brain was videoing him. Bad enough when you get a croud of idiots watching.
The purpose of the video was to prove that HGVs could get stuck on the hill, it was presented to the Council Highways Dept and now there is an 'Unsuitable for HGV' sign on the hill - job done!
@sallis65 and thanks for doing so,i drive hgv's and used to work with the woman driving that truck, she should have known better, mad as a hatter, how she got there nobody knows, the delivery was 12 miles away in the opposite direction, women drivers eh!
@sallis65 If you're such a philanthropist why spend all that time following him around and not bothering to lend any offer of assistance? When he was coming out of the junction "after" you'd got what you needed to prove your point that an hgv could get stuck did you not help stop traffic so he could maneuver around the corner and out of the village thus out of every bodies way? Instead you chose an idle path of following with your camera to maximise the effect of drama for your video.
at the end of the day the driver got the artic out of a tight spot!and as always not helped by stupid car drivers who do not realise how much space we need!
shoulda put it in diff lock..a lot of the probs with deliveries is the way car drivers park when they know hgv use road..i have seen them asked to move and when hgv gets pass put car back in same place..so have to do it again if hgv has to come back that way ..brain dead idiots!!!
sometimes you must admit the drivers can be divs though. this morning at the hole of horcum i saw a MAN artic stall and then wheelspin his way up the something like 25% gradient. pre empt the corner on the steep hill and don't try and race up in a high gear
we all get into tight scrapes, sometimes its unaviodable. put a car driver in a wagon and lets see them try and get round bends with a 45ft trailer in a town full of impatient pricks!
give that job up who ever you are !!last corner goes into the wrong lane to make the turn even more tight for themselves' suppose doesn't help if some fucker is videoing you
i love the way they make it look so difficult!!!! FORWARD PLANNING ! is this the same driver that had to be craned out of a cornish road? not fit to sweep the roads let alone drive on em!!
strange u should say that mate cos i seen this bird on the road recently n gettin up that hill took sum amount of skill, u gotta be sum sort of toothless wonder thats only ever driven a desk, six trailers in three years !! so hows she still got a licence ? did she knock u back or summit ? u gotta have sum kinda grudge !!
"fucking stupid hill to get up, he should've thought of a different route before he came- i know these roads well and that's just stupid." Yeah becuase I'm guessing you most know all the roads in Scotland then, as thats where he is from. Some people do travel futher than their home county. Maybe you will one day soon, there is a whole world out there.
its frustrating enough doing this but having some one vidoing you is really not on, not being offencive but i would have clumped the camera person , also if he has a 6x2 tractor he should put the mid lift down give him 6 wheels to drive same as my one, good job he isnt loaded or got much of a load on.
some lorries do have them my mid lift is a driving axle not all lorries though same with tag axles, the MAN my stepdad drives is just a standard tag axle not drivable.
One thing is the narrow road in the beginning, you can't tell that to wide up, but those car drivers in the town, this must be where they collect the most ignorant and egoistic drivers in UK? Half of them deserves a 12 foot snowplow to bash through the towm at mid summer at full speed...
There are some who think, but their good intentions are messed up by the stupid steering wheel holders around them.
The reason for taking this video was to persuade the district council to put up appropriate signs, directing HGV traffic along a more appropriate route out on to the main road. This they have now done so we (and the trucker's) don't get this problem any more.
All the arseholes who wanna diss lorry drivers! lets c u do it better! its a little bit harder than driving ur fucking ford mondeo 2 ur 10.30 reps appointment. everyone should be made to drive an lgv1 as part of ur test, 2 appreciate just how stressful it can be.
he is a good driver..he rescued a bad situation..but you are right fucking car drivers i get it all the time...even in the millitary lorrys with armed soldiers in the back
all these arseholes who complain about truckers do they not realise that without us they would have things to moan about because we deliver the food they eat and the clothes they wear, electrical goods, practically everything they possess in their lives.personally i would like to see all truckers stop driving for a while see how they f-----g get on then.........
give the driver a brake ya nosy pricks that was some great driving he did there and why the fuck was ya following him with the camera aint ya got nowt better to do just another day in the life of a lorry driver in britain small town know it all nosy bitches thinking they own the place
Many of the HGVs used to get stuck and either had to reverse back down or pay for a recovery truck to get them out, you can see them reversing down on the other videos. The drivers always complained that there were no signs warning them that the road was unsuitable, so we have done them a favour by getting them re-routed along the main road.

ARGH i just can´t stand people who won´t make room for trucks.
the driver can´t do anything about all the cars getting stuck, they just have to make some rooms so he can drive further.
and the silver can at the ending that is impatient and that is not letting the truck though should just F*K off (sorry for that :P)
my father is a truck driver so we (my father and i) know all about it.
WNxRadeon 3 years ago
SHE shouldnt have even tried to get to where she was as you cant get a 44tonner up that road anyway ,what a fucknut
blunderbuggy2 3 years ago
but sometimes you have to,
for example where your client is there in that street.
my father sometimes has to drive with his semi in the middle of bussels.
WNxRadeon 3 years ago
And what do you do if you're delivering to a farm for example? I don't think blunderbuggy thought that comment through before posting.
baconsandwich2007 3 years ago

destruktafunk 3 years ago
know nothing much about trucks, but will lowering the truck's centre wheels help to get more traction?
endous 3 years ago
think abut it... lowering the UNDRIVEN mid-lift will lighten the load on the DRIVEN wheels...
urgo... no
SJniallUK 3 years ago
Give the guy a break. It's bad enough already that he has to drive a foden.
mathofacko 3 years ago

xlpaj 3 years ago
LOL, gridlocking the whole town! that's a lot of furniture, must be a communal purchase :-)
learn from this kids - don't simply accept any delivery job that comes your way.
rock6662 3 years ago
i wonder if it met an H1 in the middle of that road!
liuwenjie6678 3 years ago
ha,hahahhahhahaaaaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaaa...lol,what can i say...poor little driver!
liuwenjie6678 3 years ago
its frustrating enough doing this but having some one vidoing you is really not on, not being offencive but i would have clumped the camera person , also if he has a 6x2 tractor he should put the mid lift down give him 6 wheels to drive same as my one, good job he isnt loaded or got much of a load on.
VolvoFH12580 4 years ago
the mid lift isn't a driving axle
forestfresh 4 years ago
some lorries do have them my mid lift is a driving axle not all lorries though same with tag axles, the MAN my stepdad drives is just a standard tag axle not drivable.
VolvoFH12580 4 years ago
Oh, I didn't know. I stand corrected :)

Blimey, poor guy, cars couldn't have given much less space if they'd tried...
thegerbil123 4 years ago
One thing is the narrow road in the beginning, you can't tell that to wide up, but those car drivers in the town, this must be where they collect the most ignorant and egoistic drivers in UK? Half of them deserves a 12 foot snowplow to bash through the towm at mid summer at full speed...
There are some who think, but their good intentions are messed up by the stupid steering wheel holders around them.
Griffencph 4 years ago 2
You gotta love some car drivers, determined to give you the smallest possible ammount of space. God love em!

theocuppier 4 years ago 2
wicked video i tell ya it must be bloody hard to get a lorry up that hill. its a trap for lorry drivers because th sat nav sends em that way.
IGlaurungI 4 years ago 2
If councils put proper road signs up, us truckers wouldnt have to put up with all this shit......
ashbylad 4 years ago 3
The reason for taking this video was to persuade the district council to put up appropriate signs, directing HGV traffic along a more appropriate route out on to the main road. This they have now done so we (and the trucker's) don't get this problem any more.
sallis65 4 years ago
All the arseholes who wanna diss lorry drivers! lets c u do it better! its a little bit harder than driving ur fucking ford mondeo 2 ur 10.30 reps appointment. everyone should be made to drive an lgv1 as part of ur test, 2 appreciate just how stressful it can be.

all these arseholes who complain about truckers do they not realise that without us they would have things to moan about because we deliver the food they eat and the clothes they wear, electrical goods, practically everything they possess in their lives.personally i would like to see all truckers stop driving for a while see how they f-----g get on then.........
kraljevo43 4 years ago 2
give the driver a brake ya nosy pricks that was some great driving he did there and why the fuck was ya following him with the camera aint ya got nowt better to do just another day in the life of a lorry driver in britain small town know it all nosy bitches thinking they own the place
trucker111111 4 years ago 3
We used these videos to persuade the local traffic department to re-route HGVs away from this hill. There are now HGV diversion signs in place.
sallis65 4 years ago
pity you lot got ur own way sending us round the long way eh just so you can keep so called "juggernauts"(not proper name) out ya town
trucker111111 4 years ago
Many of the HGVs used to get stuck and either had to reverse back down or pay for a recovery truck to get them out, you can see them reversing down on the other videos. The drivers always complained that there were no signs warning them that the road was unsuitable, so we have done them a favour by getting them re-routed along the main road.

tbh i dont really care dont reply no more i cba lol
