  • ver nice ! well done! I like the tuning.

  • simply amazing ..

  • I thought it was understated, .....and awesome. Thanks dude.

  • Pretty good. Though I find a lot of players play it a bit robotically.

By far the best cover Ive seen is by user "troubleclef".

Still its very good but more flair into it.

  • well done!

  • I have a Hohner HG320 that also was made in the mid to late 70's that I've owned since '81 or so. They made great guitars then. For tone I'd put it up against most Martins.

  • @Maxxlagg I agree...the wood on my Hohner has aged nicely such that the tone is as good as some of the mid-grade Martins and certainly outshines the lower end ones.

  • tuning is DGCGCD for anyone who wants to know

  • Very fluid take on this song, well done,

I've been learning to do this for months now, getting there, but I find it hard to concentrate for long in this tuning,(Gsus4(2), which is what it's best played in apparantly), as I go off on musical tangents so much, I'm fooling around on my 12-string acoustic in this tuning, and believe me, it sounds brilliant, though harder to play the 'rain song'.

  • Just beautiful my guitar playing friend A +++++++++ 1 of the best

  • hell yeah thats was sick!

  • WOW that guitar sounds amazing!

  • that was very nicely done sir.

  • I Still cant beiieve how Great this Perfomance is!!,..no talking no explanations,no b.s.

just pure unadulterated, eversweet execution!!,..Not that anyone cares, but i use this song and this version in partiicular, to wake to every morning!! Thanx Again,...

  • Great Job,...sweet articulation. couple sips of some wine,. and dude,....you're jimmy page. Thanx for posting/sharing,..

  • i only wish

  • i can play this song but i love watching other people play puts a smile on my face nice job my dude damn good playing

  • Cool.. check my version out on my page

  • Bravooo !!!

  • I have watched twice and am blown away, excellent playing my friend !!!

  • Amazing!

  • Loved it. Nice and clean. Good work!

  • amazing, one of the most accurate covers ive seen. work a bit on finger placement and people'll mistake you for Jimmy Page.

  • Page didnt use original tuning, he used D G C G C D

  • kansasio, I can tell you have this song in your heart. I know being humble but's It's really OK to smile. You did a great job and we all enjoy it. Record it again and look at us and smile occasionally and know that we are smiling with you. Playing guitar is a gift.

  • That is one fast thumb!

  • Very much awesome man.... Sounds right on the money to me. I'll be using this video post to learn it myself. Thank You.

  • man, that is some beautiful music you've made here... what a pleasure to have found your video. thanks so much for sharing your talent with us on such an incredible Zepplin tune. awesome....

  • sounds great!

  • 14 dislikes? come on those 14 need to post a video of them perfoming this oh wait thats because they suck!!!! this is a great cover!

  • Nice job, but tempo could have been slower - but very pleasent - thanks ! - what is the tuning ?

  • The tuning is DGCGCD or G(sus4) and also known as Open Page Tuning. Since it's named after him I think that answers the question.

  • That was very, very good. I'm impressed. Good work. By the way. No offence, but did anyone tell you you look like Grant Imahara from Mythbusters.

  • wonderful, this song always makes me travel to distant places in my imagination.. where its always raining smoothly in the end of the night and the mist is thin crossing the moon, and with that sweet feeling, which is a little scary, but relaxing too.. i dive deep into wonder.. kinda like the first time u smoke weed..thats wht i feel when i hear this song, ROFL. u play nice

  • freezebucko- wow! thanks so much for this post, you mentioned troubleclef- your version is just as hypnotic-this is the essence of what makes Youtube so amazing

  • @BuckoInCowboylands He's good, and definitely better than me, however NO one can touch Trouble Clef's rendition. HE does it better than Jimmy Page! Bass notes and all. But coming up with that tuning and writing such a beautiful song, on top of being one of the greatest rockers of all time........all hats off to Jimmy Page.

  • bravooo

  • bravooo

  • sounds good man

  • awesomeness !!! what else to say? very good works!!! most excelelnt job !!! this is great !! i think page and plant would approve ! i would definatly loke to hear it with the vocals too.

  • Man, that sounds nice

  • All i got to say is... playing this automaticaly makes you a badass.

  • Do you happen to know if Page played the original in this tuning? I learned this song years ago in standard tuning, and the fingering is quite a bit more difficult than the way you're playing it here. *hits self in the head* :-)

Not disparaging your version at all -- just curious if I made it more difficult on myself unnecessarily.

  • @Ken5244 I believe he plays it in alt tuning. good luck.

  • @kansaslo He does play in alternate tuning. You can tell in live concert video of him the fingerings are similar to this.

  • @kansaslo : I'll second that. Watching Jimmy play this tune, it looks like he's in alt. Man, learning it in standard E tuning must have been a mother, huh!?

  • @kansaslo Yes this is the tuning Page recorded it in, DGCGCD low to hi or sometimes one full step higher in concert.

  • @kansaslo

just check out the live versions of Jimmy on youtube...this is without a doubt correct. Thanks for posting this by the way. Really nice job. It helped me so much in learning the song!

  • @Ken5244 He did play it a step lower on the recording, but live he used to go with EADADE

  • @MrLino

Interesting. I'll have to try that out. Thanks for the info. *thumbs up*

  • @Ken5244 the song is in the tuning dgcgcd for studio thats the one i play but page live plays eadfde wich i dont suggest cause u will probally break your string ;)

  • @jrodkelly1 yah dude. two steps up on the B string? wow, that's a lot 'o' tension on that mofo. another "scary to tune to" tuning is ECDGAD used by andy mckee. it's two steps up on the A string.

  • @Ken5244 CGCGCE i am almost positive dude. good luck

  • @whatthebollocks

Thanks. I need good luck with this song. :-P The notes & chords are 'learnable,' but the phrasing is more of a challenge (for me, anyway).

  • @Ken5244 yea, the song chords and phrasing is easy for me (it always has been) but i always wonder how jimmy came up with these beautiful chords on such strange tunings which (if you know music theory and ANYTHING about root, 3rd, octave) and weird shit like that, you'd think "WTF! how did he figure that shit out?"

  • @whatthebollocks

Well, what I meant by the phrasing was that Page had a uniquely sloppy style that's hard to duplicate because it was so intrinsically HIM. His phrasing was more emotion-based than technique based. I've heard a zillion really good guitarists play Zeppelin songs, and NONE of them ever come close to sounding like Page. They play the notes but can't duplicate the feel.

Re theory, yeah, I get you. Page knew his theory to the point he could play the sounds he heard in his head.

  • @Ken5244 he was an amazing dude, that's for sure

  • Nice bending - perfect timing - I'm a big fan of Larry Carlton and I really enjoy your videos and of course your playing.

Thanks for sharing and the upload..

  • like a robot ( the right hand)

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!

  • what kinbd of camera do you use please? great playing.

  • Awesome! Thanks.

  • Very Well done !

  • nice.....look at that thumb go

  • Bullshit to all the critics. That was very well done brother! Thanks for sharing. I haven't played this song in 20 years, and when I played it, it was on my Les Paul, not acoustic. Sounds so beautiful on an acoustic. I loved it, thanks again!

  • That was very awesome. Damn you did that well!

  • dude i need some help.........how do you play that part at 1:14.....those 2 chords...the tabs are confusing

  • Barring the entire chord is tough. You can cheat at that part and just play the chords on the four top strings (D G B E). Hope that helps

  • @kansaslo yes he tuned his guitar as E A E A B sequence from above.

  • @dannycrvntz chords are x(5)4444 hammer high string to 5, then x02224 as played here, many variations that sound great though

  • outstanding

  • very nice.. that sounded great!!

  • going faster and faster otherwise very good!

  • Tutorial Please

  • Very well done kansaslo I must say. :)

  • a little too fast paced

  • i didnt find it very smooth. ur strumming hand seems stiff. but nice attempt.

  • great job! 5 stars, damn i love that ending

  • Absolutely beautiful. Really curious about the guitar. You said it was a Martin D41 copy. What brand is it? Thanks for sharing this.

  • Thanks for the nice comments. The guitar I used is a Hohner HG320 that was made sometime in the mid 70s. I actually like the sound better than some of my higher end guitars because the wood has aged nicely.

  • nice work. can't wait to hear some vocals

  • hey "chrismodiano" not to to rip yer britches bro but, wouldn't it be better to show how good you really are with your own video(s) ? just asking. don't take it personally.

  • Shhhh, I'm just picking on the asshat who comes in to somebody's video only to dis them and shit all over the guys talent. Nobody gives a shit if he's better. It's not his video. I don't even play the guitar, I was just trying to be more abrasive than him.

  • Why does it matter if this guy doesn't use a pick and Page does ? It's his interpretation . Nicely done btw .

  • wow, outta left field, from the guy who has posted no videos and wasn't even this conversation...

"suck a dick ya tool" what are you 13?

  • so it still sounds the same either way if he used a pick or not rite and who cares if jimmy page used a pick

  • fak bro u rock,,,

  • hey thanks for making such a beautiful song stay beautiful greatjob

btw where did u find the tabs for the chorus i really need help on that chorus part so let me know k thx

  • thanks for some led for my head ......

  • Dude that is awesome!!!

  • amazing cover. i cant wait to learn this one!

  • Haven't heard this in a while. Mahalo!!

  • Nicely done! Hearing this played with just the acoustic part shows how at the core of so many great songs are beautiful melody and chord work. The key to much of Zeppelin's acoustic-oriented tracks is that the embellishments and instrumental arrangements are just sparse enough that the beauty of the individual instruments come through while still blending into an amazing mix. Once multi-track recording really took off , many good tunes and melodies were ruined by over-production!

  • thank u man rock on

  • Bravo

  • Your eyes are almost closed... ARE YOU HIGH???

  • (Psst......he's asian)

  • Nice job :-)

  • great

  • perfect

  • Very good indeed.

  • Sweeeeeet man thanks for posting this......some great pieces in there and nice guitar too!! .... The Zep Lives On

  • Very nice man.

  • nice man

  • Great Cover!

  • Great playing! I'd say Troubleclef has a slight edge on you by playing with a bit more feeling, but otherwise this is the 2nd best version on youtube (other than jimmys version!) as far as I'm concerned. If I could play as well as you I would be as happy as a clam in mud.....

  • awesome, look of concentration

  • i love this song

  • I am playing the strings section part on my keyboard and I am enjoying playing along with you. Wish you could hear how it sounds! I LOVE IT!

  • very good....only thing that needs improvement is the timing in spots. Most of it is right on though.

  • Give the guy a break!!! This is fricken awesome dude!!! Go take a dump man!!!

  • Damn right... sounded note prefect to me!

  • LOL XD PWNED THAT DUDE CLD NICE JOB

  • solid man.

    any tab site suggestions? anyone?

  • very sweet...nice work man.

  • very impressive

  • wow great cover man! really enjoyed it..

  • Really good!

  • that was truely inspired ...

a simple and beutifully compelex song performed with grace and technical profienctance

  • awsome job dude

  • yes man, great cover. Worked manya nite on it. You do it much better...great timing

  • wow...nice playing dude...im learning that song now...it's actually pretty easy.......any tips?

  • this song is very good, but your time is bad. xD

  • Awesome to watch. Been a fan of that song for 30+ years. I started playing guitar after college and specialize in lead guitar. I doubt I could have the patience to learn the entire song like you did. This song really reveals the genius if Jimmy Page. That he is a multi dimensional guitar master. As I listened I was hearing the other parts in my head and trying to imagine Pages studio sessions putting together this complex arrangement.

  • Its really quite remarkable not only the inguinity of every chord he used but the layering of Plants vocals and rythum change of the drums and lets not forge the string section either. Remarkable!

  • Very well done, song makes me weep everytime.

  • superb!

  • Beautifully done - I sang along.

Thank you for sharing! : )

  • i will be watching this on the regular when i practice until i get as good as you...i love this song

  • This is beautiful. Thanks. Your timing is perfect.

  • great man!

  • Simply Beautiful! You make it look so easy!!,

  • Great playing. Is it standard tuning

  • no it goes DGCGCD for the acoustic

  • loooooooooove it!

  • AGGH!!!

the part of the song at 4:30 is still wierd to me!

    everyone plays it different!!

    =(

    but great performance anyways

    =D

  • nice job...keep practicing.....

  • This is beautiful. You have natural grace and seem to play this effortlessly.

  • Beautiful!

  • great job bud keep it up lucky you...

  • this songs really easy to ;play and sounds good

  • Comment removed

  • i just put my lap top off to the side and listen.....sweet

  • *cough* azn playign wrong tuning *cough*

  • actually DGCGCD is the studio tuning that page used. get your facts straight, douchebag.

  • a fail tuning, standard is way better and sounds more epic.

  • up yours dude. why in the hell would you criticize this video when hes playing as beautifully as he is. kyeruu is most definitely correct. you are indeed a douchebag sir. :)(:

  • wtf? did you insult me THEN compliment me? i'm confused......

  • no i called the guy that bitched about the tuning a douchebag

  • wow,what talent

  • Some really skilled playing there :P.

  • ACE!!!

  • great cover, keep them coming!

  • thank you! very much appreciated.

  • Awesome!

  • much appreciated..thank you

  • hi thats very nice, best wishes from germany

  • thank you my friend

  • Super!

  • Kens playing a la Jimmy Page inspired me to attempt Robert Plant, so my video could be considered as a Page and Plant Transatlantic Tribute Track lol. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed singing to Kens excellent axemanship!

  • Wow, this was amazing. Such a beautiful song and you carried it out excellently.
