Esta cancion esta hermosa, me dan ganas de llorar. Si me recuerda mucho al personaje de Oscar en la pelicula creo que en su interior es una ternura, y asi suena.
i think music was one of the key pieces in what made this film so beautiful if you notice let me in has no scenes that make you focus on the music where as let the right one in is so significant that the music makes you feel more towards the charecters
@dbabbjr I would agree, but the lifestyle they have is decadent. They are figures that are enviable. The vampire in Let The Right One In is forced to live a life that is pathetic, in poverty. She is pitiful. That's why I like it more than Interview with the vampire. She has lost everything that made life worth living.
This piece made the scene and for me was the best part of the movie... haunting, Serene, Peaceful and also Sad. I wasn't so keen on the movie, but this scene and music is really good :)

@SQUIDERICK Yes a million times. I've seen so many brilliant films have crappy remakes... Why do they feel the need for that? There are so many countries that make absolutely beautiful and very compelling films... And then someone decides they need to be "Americanized", which essentially means taking the plot and moulding it to the Hollywood formula. Not necessary, not interesting, not original. :I
I wouldn't want a sequel, Leanderson embodies Eli perfectly and both her and Oskar have grown up into teenagers in real life meaning they would have to find new actors. I simply wouldn't like two new re-casted characters picking up where the first film left off. It wouldn't feel right. I'm happy with the first film.
The only 'happy' ending involves two vampires. Otherwise, the age thing is going to destroy it. Breakups aren't happy, and Oskar aging (and, logically speaking, finding an adult to love instead) don't make for happy endings. Only a balanced relationship, with two child vampires (Or a slightly older turned Oskar with a plastic surgery enhanced Eli) will allow for a happy ending. Well. As happy as two murderers can be, anyway.
I absolutely loved the film and this music. Always made me tingle whenever it played.
In regards to the whole 'sequel' debate, I thought it ended perfectly- bittersweet. We don't know what happens to them afterwards, and I think that's one of the best points of the film. Although I understand something like Twilight's appeal, that was the problem for me. Everything was just too neat and tidy at the end. This had a daunting, yet happy ending. A great ending for a great film. No sequel needed.
I am always conflicted on whether or not they should make a sequel. On one side, I want to see what happens to the both of them. Will she bite him and they get to be 12 forever, will he leave someday knowing that it's getting risky, will he end up like Hakan. Then, I feel like there shouldn't be one and that the finial conclusion should be left up to the audience. I never watched a movie where I actually gave a fuck about the characters.
In the book Oskar tells her he doesn't want to be a vampire and it' terrified at the thought. Eli says she doesn't want to make him, or anyone into a vampire as it is horrible. Only the thought of growing old without her might change his mind, and if it doesn't he'll probably be her helper.
Exactly! There is no happy outcome if you take the story to it's end. No magic potion to turn Eli back. Some people have have problems with this, but I think it's hauntingly beautiful. It stays with you. I think this story will be a story I never forget because of that aspect to it.
@georginiou This tends to my view as well. If there was a finite ending the book and the movie, they wouldn't work as well. What makes both work is we are asked to, "Make the ending you want" within ourselves. Do we see happy? Sad? Tragic? It doesn't matter because it's what we feel inside.
If Oskar turns into a version of Hakan that's the most truthful way of following those characters, and anything untruthful is not worth writing as a sequel. The reason the end works is because of the truth contained in the sequence. Happiness is something fleeting that comes and goes, and when it washes over you it is blissful, but it doesn't and cannot last all the time. I'm not saying people have to be unhappy, but in the ending that element of hope and joy is so perfect. No sequel needed.
couldn't have said it better, it makes me think about happiness and love, both fleeting and beautiful, in class we learned about courtly love how it was an idealization of love, knights and ladies were never physicallly involved, knights would only idolize ladies and they never had to see the ugly side of a relationship, (like when your finally with your significant other and you realize he/she has a temper or something), this movie doesn't go into the ugly side of life and nobody wants it to
But remember when Let the right one in was made in a movie, the director told the interview to interpret it in any way. The interpretation was meant to be positive or negative, but I believe it was positive. I know Oskar would not be another Hakan.
@georginiou That is true, If the story keeps going on, all the boys that fall in love with her, could never have her. Because Eli will always be 12 years old.
Fuck NO. That would be ugly, the tragedy of that story with Hakan was that he loved her more than she loved him. That's why he did evil for her, and she merely cared about him. They weren't in love.
A more truthful ending would be if she made Oskar into a vampire and they eventually walked into the sunrise holding hands. Anything but what you suggest, I hate your idea because although happiness is fleeting, true love is not.
Or rather the tragedy was that Hakan sought love in her at expense of himself, although it wasn't there. They were never meant for each other so he was wrong about everything he did. Except about caring for another being, her, which is the reason why we can still sympathize with him about that.
I'm not saying Oskar is a junior Hakan, I'm saying it's an interpretation. It could happen. What I got from the movie was that Eli needs somebody to help her. She's vulnerable during the day and simply can't do everything herself. If Oskar became a vampire too, then they'd both be that situation. And for Eli to string Hakan along for what could years, we know she doesn't mind exploiting people. I think the reason she liked Oskar was more because he gave her a sense of childhood she was lacking.
It could certainly happen, but if that was the case it would never really have been a love story at all. But a rather more horrible one. The film appears beautiful for as much as their feelings appear genuine. If I bought into your interpretation, I'd probably feel nauseous watching it.
As much as I've thought about Oskar and Eli's future, I think the feelings that were portrayed were genuine. That's why it's beautiful. But let's say Oskar and Eli stay together for another 40 years, one human one vampire. What kind of future do you think they could have? Also, the main tragedy or LTROI is that Eli was trapped inside a child's body and never allowed to develop or grow as a person. She would never condemn Oskar to that, it would be a bit selfish. Only the writer know what happens
Yeah, but that's also the thing, she changed Oskar, for their love to stay true because I think that was the intent. Or at least that's what makes you think throughout the movie, but for it to stay true, he'd have to change her too. And possibly that would mean the death of them both, it is hard to say. All I know is that the story you suggest feels like the worst possible fate that could befall them from that point. Developing your body, doesn't beat developing your heart.
You're misunderstanding me. I'm not suggesting there should be a sequel where Oskar is a version of Hakan, and I'm not saying that it SHOULD happen, I'm just saying that it COULD. I love it that they ended the story where they did, because it was most cathartic at that point. And so what if it is the worst possible fate for them? A great story doesn't have to end happily. The greatest love story is Romeo & Juliet - and they both died. I'm not interested in happy endings - just TRUE endings
@georginiou. But remember towards the end of the movie, it was on open-ended ending meaning, it is still a big mystery as to what will happen to Oskar and Eli's future.
Absolutely, I love the open ended ending. It left me feeling satisfied, and intrigued.
But in regards to Oskar and Eli, they have a few options.
1. They stay together, one vampire one human.
2. They stay together, two vampires.
3. They don't stay together.
Neither of them are going to be happy - the story ends at the optimum point of joy. That's why it's perfect. It captures the sense of joy that you feel when you first get with someone, despite not knowing where it's going to lead.
@dalecanonrock Yes, he will. He would age normally while Eli stayed as a child. He would effectively become a guardian, or surrogate parent to her, at least from a physical point of view. That's what is so sad and brilliant about the book, it explores how such a twisted situation to come about in such an innocent manner.
@georginiou According to Lindqvist, it's not going to be that way. In the epilogue - not yet published - Eli is going to turn Oscar. Besides, in the book Eli picked Hackan when he was deep in the gutter and old, so Oskar's story is not a rethreading of the Hakan's story.
@alekmosingiewicz I know that Lindqvist has said he is going to write the epilogue just to add some closure. I think he was a little worried that people could interpret Oskar as a future Hakan, as it reflects badly on Eli. But, people who have only watched the film and not read the book usually come to that conclusion. Without the benefit of knowing Hakan's backstory it's easy to interpret that as Oskar's destiny, but I agree, if that was the way the story unfolded, it would be a real sickener.
@dalecanonrock Yeah, a lot more. I was surprised how well the characters were cast after reading the book, it makes the film so much better, and shows just what a poet Lindqvist is.
Also, the film is called, let the right one enter, and perhaps that's the question here. If she is the right one, the film is beautiful, if not, it isn't.
i keep thinking of the ways it could continue but it's too sad, oskar will age while eli remains a child, and oskar will eventually become like hakan and have to kill for her, it's nicer to think of them as two children forever that way, in my mind i'd like to think that they both die together somehow
although this is a vampire movie and therefore "fantasy", this movie strikes me as fiction. It's winter here in the states and whenever i look outside at the snow i wonder what eli and oskar are doing, the movie seems so realistic to me it's scary,
This is an emotionally powerful film i have seen. The friendship and love between Oskar and Eli is so touching and sweet, yet innocent, given the characters' predicaments made it the more poignant. I watch it with the Director and Writers' commentary to get more back story just make me want to read the book to get the whole story. the film make me think about myself and my own childhood, even lost youth. last thing the music also complliments the film perfectly. I cannot recommend it enough.
Problem with Twilight is that it neglected all the darkness present in the vampire mythology and just focused on the postives. If the only bad thing about being a vampire is that you sparkle, it's not a very tragic thing. I think Let the Right One In is the only vampire I've watched that truly captured the horror, lonliness and tragedy of being trapped inside a vampire struggle.
@Transformers217 It does a decent job, I think it's the first movie that put forward the idea that eternal life could be a horrible thing if applied to a child. But I feel in "Interview with a Vampire" we never really got convinced regarding Louie's pain. But "Interview with a Vampire" is a story that revels in the decadence and debauchery of vampirism, glamourising it slightly. Let the Rght One In is the most honest portrayal of vampires I have ever read and watched.
@georginiou I think Louie's pain was brilliantly displayed in "Interview with the Vampire", and that mostly has to do with Brad Pitt's performance. "Let the Right One In" is the better film, but "Interview" was great as well.
@Transformers217 While I think Louie is a good character, and Pitt's acting was fine, I was just never totally convinced by him. I suppose the book explains his psychological torment more than the film ever could. The character I found most powerful was Claudia, and it's mainly through her that we get a glimpse inside his mind. In IWTV it still looked fun to be a vampire, and I wonder if Louie hadn't become a surrogate parent to Claudia if he might have been seduced by vampire life more easily.
@georginiou What are you talking about? "Interview With The Vampire" was one of the few modern takes of the emo vampire. Nobody was having fun in that film. Even Tom Cruise's character was tormented towards the end, and only masqueraded his pain by trying to enjoy the pain of others. And I think Brad Pitt even said that he had nightmares, when he was portraying that character. Throughout the whole film, his character was in emotional and psychological pain.
@Transformers217 I never said Louie wasn't a downbeat character, just that I wasn't convinced by his performance. Lestat's moment of redemption is so fleeting, and only occurs very late on. He is the epitome of the wreckless, selfish, indulgent vampire - killing women while making love to them, dancing with corpses - perhaps due to him being older, he got desensitized, but by the end of the movie, he was back to his old self. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I disagree.
@georginiou Look at Pitt's performance again. The scene where he's walking through the plague, eating a rat, and seeing Claudia for the first time, is a great showcase of angst and the tortured life of being a vampire. And even Lestat shows his pain and sadness during a couple scenes with Louie, and tries to masquerade it by smiling and acting like he enjoys his life style. The only vampires who enjoyed themselves were the ones in France.
@Transformers217 I'm not being facetious or anything, and I'm not saying I don't like Interview with the Vampire, just that I don't like it quite as much as you. I found it hard to relate to Brad Pitt. John Ajvide Lindqvist said something similar in an interview once... "it is very important that your audience can identify with the protagonist. With adult actors there is always a barrier that inhibits me from identifying. I’m not Brad Pitt no matter how much I would want to be."
@georginiou I guess this is subjective. But I can definitely relate to Brad Pitt's pain, and anguish throughout "Interview with the Vampire." Before "Let the right One In", that was one of the first modern vampire films, that showed how terrible it is being a vampire. The irony towards the end, is that no matter how tragic the story could be, humans will always want to have that type of power. Which is the message that "Interview" was sending.
@Transformers217 I agree with you there, I think it's one of the top 3 vampire movies. I do like it a lot. My original point was that IWTV portrayed a lot of decadence and debauchery in the vampire world, and that it sold itself on those virtues. Louie was a counterpoint to that, and a good one, without his character it would've been an exercise in tedium and emotionally univolving. But I do think the lasting memory of that series will be decadence. But it's a great movie, don't get wrong.
@Transformers217 Maybe 50-50. You can't have joy without sorrow, you can't have pain without pleasure etc. So, perhaps it's angst amongst decadence, maybe that's the heart of the story. That way we're both right. ;)
@georginiou The decadence is just used to masquerade the under current of what was really going on. "Interview With The Vampire" is a layered film, that shifts and moves according to what the characters go through.
"Let The Right One In" is the better, more emotional, and quiet work of art. But it's not the first film to show how terrible and lonely it is to be a vampire. To my surprise, the first vampire film does exactly what these films accomplished.
@Transformers217 The only reason I go on about decadence within IWTV is mainly because even to this day, people gather to New Orleans and dress up as Lestat, Louie and other characters and have masquerade balls, or rather pseudo decadent parties. It is a lasting theme from the books, even if it is just a veneer or narrative device. I can't imagine anyone doing this with LTROI. Unless they have pool parties where people pretend to kill each other!
@georginiou i agree with you, and LTROI is #1 in my top 5 list. but ive been told that Nosferatu (1922) captures the vampire horror, tragedy just as good as LTROI did.
@AngusSgXD Nosferatu is a decent film, but it shows its age. It's creepy, but it has that kind of stylistic camp quality that the early films have when compared with new ones.
@georginiou But the thing is twilight isn't supposed to be all dark and tragic. that's your liking to vampire movies. can i suggest you read the books? and plus, I thought the movie of twilight was too dark, actually. horror-ish. for god's sake, it's a teenage book.
@AliceC1127 Twilight isn't supposed to be dark and tragic? Edward Cullen is a Byronic hero, meaning he is a tragic hero. His heroism comes from his tragedy, his whole persona is built on angst. Most of the Cullen characters have tragic and dark backstories. Rosalie got gang-raped and murdered did she not? I'm not saying all vampire stories need tragedy, just that it is the theme that allows a vampire story to work. Count Duckula was a vampire, I enjoyed that - as a comedy, not a compelling drama
@BornToDie90 I don't have a problem with Twilight, I think the first one is perfectly fine, but it's not a vampire movie, it's a teen romance. If they have paid more attention to what a vampire means, and also made a deeper connection between the characters, it would've been a better movie, rather than an escapist fantasy for 14 year olds and hormonal women!
@georginiou You! You, my friend, are a prophet! I had the exact same opinions on this film and on the Twilight series; I enjoy knowing there's more people in the world who actually agree. It seems like the majority either don't see it, or they just outright say "Yeah, Twilight sucked, Let the Right One In was awesome!" based on the fact that a bunch of other people are saying that, but you recognized some of the several things that makes Let the Right One In wickedly beautiful, well done.
The author hinted that there will be a "happy ending" in the epilogue that he writing. He is writing a sequel but it will only be about 50 pages. Still we will get some closure and I am pretty sure that Eli is going to turn him. I think it will be such a sweet and dark ending. See them riding off into a bloody sunset. lol. by the way I hope they make a movie off the short story.
I think they will, it may take some time but I am 99% sure they will. The end of the movie definitely needed some closure but at the same time, it can go down as a stand alone film and I'm so conflicted about which approach it should take.
I don't think Eli will actually turn him. Not without Oskar's consent, at least. Also, in the novel, he said about her (hesitant)proposal of turning him that he didn't want to live THAT life. So, maybe, this alternative could be seen as too extreme. It would be even darker and sadder if we'd see an aged Oskar, living Hakan's condition, and eventually ending up like him, while Eli (reluctantly) makes a new friend. Kind of dark, extreme and silly, I know, but I believe it would work. Or what?
I guess we will have to wait for the writers Epilogue to come out but if she doesn't turn him then what is this "happy ending' that he hinted at? To be honest I didn't exactly care for the book, it lacked the ambiguity and subtlety of the film. It seemed the book was more focused on being controversial. I think in the novel the core story should have been explored in more depth. Way too many sub plots that aren't important.
I liked the book, the only subplot I didn't care for was Tommy's subplot and everyone whose involved in it, including zombie Hakan. He gets a good 100+ pages, but he really only does like 2 things of any importance at all throughout the entire story. Delete zombie hakan, and you automatically nullify Tommy's existence and thankfully the movie did both those things.
I believe the title will be 'come what may.' I forget exactly. It is not written yet. He is working on it. In either case despite some of my disagreements with the way he took the story, I still can't wait to read the epilogue. I hope its REALLY dark.
Perhaps not... At the beginning Eli has forsaken or forgotten how it was to be human. Maybe he/she ( In the movie I see Eli as a she by the way ) wants to forget living around and with Hakan. During the time she is with Oskar he reawakens some of those old forgotten feelings in Eli. She finds that some people are worth trusting. Although a vampire Eli has regained a small portion of her original self. I see the title as Eli let the right one in and perhaps saved herself in the process...
I think both oskar and eli struggle to "Let the right one in" towards the beginning. As time moves along they trust each other, start to like each other, and form a bond that's practically unbreakable. In a way, I don't think Oskar really knows what it's like to be human as well, considering that he fantasizes about death and killing people, especially his tormentors, and he seems to keep to himself.
I think the title suits both characters real well.
To me it's pure love, not complicated much in the way of sexuality. What a beautiful thing to express in today's obsession with sex. Love without sex is just as important, and possible. It's so tender and just heartachingly sweet. It's also sad because to me, it seems that the relationship can only end in tragedy. It's just uncomplicated pure love. It almost hurts to watch.
sorry to bring that THING into this but if the love in twilight was like this it would have been so much beetter. I hate twilight because of all the things wrong with it.. This is the perfect Movie with modern yet old fashioned vampires and love.
one of the bullys (they kick down a door to get to oskar, another of him and eli play fighting and he gives her a back hand lmao (seriously) after he says sorry they start hissing at each other (lmao) only playing but still funny.
the last was of that woman eli attacked, she has some wine and starts being sick.
will the DVD have extra scenes? i have seen a trailer where the bullys kick down a toilet door to get to oskar, but the version i watched there was nothing like that?
I have the bluray of this movie, and can confirm it does not have the scene you are talking about. I too have seen that in a couple of the trailers here on youtube.
My DVD copy has 4 deleted scenes. Two are about Eli & Oskar, one is about Victoria, and the last one is about the bullies knocking down the door. I hope you haven't bought a copy of the DVD yet, just so you know, you should be aware that some came out with crappy subtitles. Be sure to look for a copy that says in the back on the bottome "Subtitles: English(Theatrical), Spanish" The theatrical is important, otherwise you get the crappy copy.
Thank you for telling us/me about which DVD to buy ^^
I'm glad there's helpful people like you out there. . Mmmmm..
This music brings a tear to my eyes.. It's lovely.. Brilliant.. Beautiful,.. Haunting. . Imaginationspinning. . . It's just a true piece of art.. Ouch.. I feel it in my aching body.. The music touches me so deeply.. Reminds me of something I cannot remember.. Arghh.. It's soo beautiful and haunting that it hurts me.. Bless you all.. I hope you find true love one day.
You're welcome, as well as everyone :). I wish I had known sooner for myself, because now I'm stuck with the bad one ^^ . And thank you for the kind words. This is my favorite movie, hands down. And this is my favorite piece of music from the movie. It makes me sad and happy at the same time.
And also, there's only one deleted scene on youtube. It's on my favorite videos, going by "my favorite deleted sceen reinserted (please read)" It's one of the Eli & Oskar ones. It's not good quality, but worth watching, nonetheless :)
Target should have the DVD, but be sure to look that it says theatrical in the back of the case, because they have some bad copies still floating around. I bought the crappy copy at Target. I haven't bought the one with the more correct subtitles. They sell the DVD at Barnes & Noble. Maybe Borders. But still, be sure to check!
Haha, I am going to cloud you with comments :P I just looked at the person who had that video uploaded about the deleted scene I told you about. I just saw that they have the 'Bullies' deleted scene, as well as all the other deleted scenes. The video is simply titled "Let the Right One In deleted scenes."
They play this theme a couple of times in the movie, but my favourite is when Eli climbs in bed with Oscar. Her hand travles down his arm and she intertwines her fingers with his. One of the most powerfull love scenes ever committed to celluloid IMO, and this music just compliments it perfectly.
I agree.. 1 of the most powerful love scenes ever.. So beautiful.. In a genuine and platonic way. It's not about sex, but trust, commitment, loyalty, love and friendship. .. Beautiful!
This music is really touching! I cannot stop being touched and I cannot stop writing that I'm touched.,, That's how brilliant this is!
This song -for some reason- reminds me of me the pain of being alone. It's hurts and when I see that movie, I wish I had a friend similar like that, boy or girl I care less. But to have that friend I desire, is the only that matters to me in this world now. I'm alone, cold and confused. What I fear in me is becoming a murdurer and destroying those who have betrayed me.. The only thing that can save is that friend. That friend who accepts me for me and will never leave me no matter what. *tears*
This movie has intoxicated my heart and soul I have seen it 5 times, and still cannot get enough, I have also read the book 3 times. Id like to add this thought. Eli and Oskar are truly in love, and I feel that Oskar will one day change, and stay by Eli for eternity
And this is why: Epilogue: Oskar sits on a train. Snow is falling outside. A large basket sits in front of him. From inside the basket comes a rapping. Oskar raps back in Morse Code, "P-U-S-S", Swedish for "kiss".
642556, I too have seen it 5-6 times now. I have seen many movies in my lifetime, but never has one captured my attention and then my heart like this one has. my long term hope that more directors strive for films that evoke the same kind of emotion and thought like ltroi has. it is to be expected that there will always be a few people that do not like films like this, they need to have constant visual/auditory stimulation to enjoy a movie, fortunately most of us still have hearts to be touched
Esta cancion esta hermosa, me dan ganas de llorar. Si me recuerda mucho al personaje de Oscar en la pelicula creo que en su interior es una ternura, y asi suena.

A great ending for a great film. No sequel needed.
Hippodignity19 2 years ago 3

Cesar21jmb 2 years ago
Exactly! There is no happy outcome if you take the story to it's end. No magic potion to turn Eli back. Some people have have problems with this, but I think it's hauntingly beautiful. It stays with you. I think this story will be a story I never forget because of that aspect to it.
georginiou 2 years ago
@georginiou This tends to my view as well. If there was a finite ending the book and the movie, they wouldn't work as well. What makes both work is we are asked to, "Make the ending you want" within ourselves. Do we see happy? Sad? Tragic? It doesn't matter because it's what we feel inside.

This could never beat twilight, music can only say so much..... if Oskar could remain 12 forever, they wold be perfect!

Its your own opinion. Some of us like the movie for what it is, not for what it could be.
BlueDiamondGirl 2 years ago 5
Ugh! I really wanted them to make a seqeul!!
SamSkater78 2 years ago
If Oskar turns into a version of Hakan that's the most truthful way of following those characters, and anything untruthful is not worth writing as a sequel. The reason the end works is because of the truth contained in the sequence. Happiness is something fleeting that comes and goes, and when it washes over you it is blissful, but it doesn't and cannot last all the time. I'm not saying people have to be unhappy, but in the ending that element of hope and joy is so perfect. No sequel needed.
georginiou 2 years ago 4
couldn't have said it better, it makes me think about happiness and love, both fleeting and beautiful, in class we learned about courtly love how it was an idealization of love, knights and ladies were never physicallly involved, knights would only idolize ladies and they never had to see the ugly side of a relationship, (like when your finally with your significant other and you realize he/she has a temper or something), this movie doesn't go into the ugly side of life and nobody wants it to
jackiethefantabulous 2 years ago
But remember when Let the right one in was made in a movie, the director told the interview to interpret it in any way. The interpretation was meant to be positive or negative, but I believe it was positive. I know Oskar would not be another Hakan.
Supersweetguy 2 years ago
@georginiou That is true, If the story keeps going on, all the boys that fall in love with her, could never have her. Because Eli will always be 12 years old.
SamSkater78 2 years ago
Perfect analogy
archebus 2 years ago
@georginiou
IrreducibleParadox 2 years ago
@georginiou
Or rather the tragedy was that Hakan sought love in her at expense of himself, although it wasn't there. They were never meant for each other so he was wrong about everything he did. Except about caring for another being, her, which is the reason why we can still sympathize with him about that.
IrreducibleParadox 2 years ago
I'm not saying Oskar is a junior Hakan, I'm saying it's an interpretation. It could happen. What I got from the movie was that Eli needs somebody to help her. She's vulnerable during the day and simply can't do everything herself. If Oskar became a vampire too, then they'd both be that situation. And for Eli to string Hakan along for what could years, we know she doesn't mind exploiting people. I think the reason she liked Oskar was more because he gave her a sense of childhood she was lacking.
georginiou 2 years ago
@greoginiou
It could certainly happen, but if that was the case it would never really have been a love story at all. But a rather more horrible one. The film appears beautiful for as much as their feelings appear genuine. If I bought into your interpretation, I'd probably feel nauseous watching it.
IrreducibleParadox 2 years ago
As much as I've thought about Oskar and Eli's future, I think the feelings that were portrayed were genuine. That's why it's beautiful. But let's say Oskar and Eli stay together for another 40 years, one human one vampire. What kind of future do you think they could have? Also, the main tragedy or LTROI is that Eli was trapped inside a child's body and never allowed to develop or grow as a person. She would never condemn Oskar to that, it would be a bit selfish. Only the writer know what happens
georginiou 2 years ago
Yeah, but that's also the thing, she changed Oskar, for their love to stay true because I think that was the intent. Or at least that's what makes you think throughout the movie, but for it to stay true, he'd have to change her too. And possibly that would mean the death of them both, it is hard to say. All I know is that the story you suggest feels like the worst possible fate that could befall them from that point. Developing your body, doesn't beat developing your heart.
IrreducibleParadox 2 years ago
You're misunderstanding me. I'm not suggesting there should be a sequel where Oskar is a version of Hakan, and I'm not saying that it SHOULD happen, I'm just saying that it COULD. I love it that they ended the story where they did, because it was most cathartic at that point. And so what if it is the worst possible fate for them? A great story doesn't have to end happily. The greatest love story is Romeo & Juliet - and they both died. I'm not interested in happy endings - just TRUE endings
georginiou 2 years ago
@georginiou Why should there be a sequel in which Oskar is another Hakan? That would be very tragic, and a bit disgusting. Don't you think?
Supersweetguy 2 years ago
There shouldn't be a sequel of any kind. The movie is perfect.
But, like any good story, the characters should exist before and after the span of the story.
And, Eli living a life of poverty and murdering innocent people isn't tragic and disgusting? You can't define beauty without things that are ugly.
georginiou 2 years ago 4
@georginiou. But remember towards the end of the movie, it was on open-ended ending meaning, it is still a big mystery as to what will happen to Oskar and Eli's future.
Supersweetguy 2 years ago
Absolutely, I love the open ended ending. It left me feeling satisfied, and intrigued.
But in regards to Oskar and Eli, they have a few options.
1. They stay together, one vampire one human.
2. They stay together, two vampires.
3. They don't stay together.
Neither of them are going to be happy - the story ends at the optimum point of joy. That's why it's perfect. It captures the sense of joy that you feel when you first get with someone, despite not knowing where it's going to lead.
georginiou 2 years ago 79
@georginiou 4.Oskar will most probably end up like Hakan or oskar will become Vampire as well. (your option #2)
thuchawes 1 year ago
@georginiou If Eli don't bite Oscar, then he'll be old.
dalecanonrock 1 year ago
@dalecanonrock Yes, he will. He would age normally while Eli stayed as a child. He would effectively become a guardian, or surrogate parent to her, at least from a physical point of view. That's what is so sad and brilliant about the book, it explores how such a twisted situation to come about in such an innocent manner.
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou According to Lindqvist, it's not going to be that way. In the epilogue - not yet published - Eli is going to turn Oscar. Besides, in the book Eli picked Hackan when he was deep in the gutter and old, so Oskar's story is not a rethreading of the Hakan's story.
alekmosingiewicz 1 year ago
@alekmosingiewicz I know that Lindqvist has said he is going to write the epilogue just to add some closure. I think he was a little worried that people could interpret Oskar as a future Hakan, as it reflects badly on Eli. But, people who have only watched the film and not read the book usually come to that conclusion. Without the benefit of knowing Hakan's backstory it's easy to interpret that as Oskar's destiny, but I agree, if that was the way the story unfolded, it would be a real sickener.

Supersweetguy 2 years ago 3
i keep thinking of the ways it could continue but it's too sad, oskar will age while eli remains a child, and oskar will eventually become like hakan and have to kill for her, it's nicer to think of them as two children forever that way, in my mind i'd like to think that they both die together somehow

although this is a vampire movie and therefore "fantasy", this movie strikes me as fiction. It's winter here in the states and whenever i look outside at the snow i wonder what eli and oskar are doing, the movie seems so realistic to me it's scary,
jackiethefantabulous 2 years ago
@jackiethefantabulous I don't want Oskar to age, but instead I want them to remain 12 forever because they would be perfect together.

same, it's great to have that moment of pure happiness, but it's sad to know it will never last
jackiethefantabulous 2 years ago

@georginiou I agree. "Interview with a Vampire" does a great job at capturing the isolation and pain of being a vampire.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 It does a decent job, I think it's the first movie that put forward the idea that eternal life could be a horrible thing if applied to a child. But I feel in "Interview with a Vampire" we never really got convinced regarding Louie's pain. But "Interview with a Vampire" is a story that revels in the decadence and debauchery of vampirism, glamourising it slightly. Let the Rght One In is the most honest portrayal of vampires I have ever read and watched.
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou I think Louie's pain was brilliantly displayed in "Interview with the Vampire", and that mostly has to do with Brad Pitt's performance. "Let the Right One In" is the better film, but "Interview" was great as well.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 While I think Louie is a good character, and Pitt's acting was fine, I was just never totally convinced by him. I suppose the book explains his psychological torment more than the film ever could. The character I found most powerful was Claudia, and it's mainly through her that we get a glimpse inside his mind. In IWTV it still looked fun to be a vampire, and I wonder if Louie hadn't become a surrogate parent to Claudia if he might have been seduced by vampire life more easily.
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou What are you talking about? "Interview With The Vampire" was one of the few modern takes of the emo vampire. Nobody was having fun in that film. Even Tom Cruise's character was tormented towards the end, and only masqueraded his pain by trying to enjoy the pain of others. And I think Brad Pitt even said that he had nightmares, when he was portraying that character. Throughout the whole film, his character was in emotional and psychological pain.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 I never said Louie wasn't a downbeat character, just that I wasn't convinced by his performance. Lestat's moment of redemption is so fleeting, and only occurs very late on. He is the epitome of the wreckless, selfish, indulgent vampire - killing women while making love to them, dancing with corpses - perhaps due to him being older, he got desensitized, but by the end of the movie, he was back to his old self. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I disagree.
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou Look at Pitt's performance again. The scene where he's walking through the plague, eating a rat, and seeing Claudia for the first time, is a great showcase of angst and the tortured life of being a vampire. And even Lestat shows his pain and sadness during a couple scenes with Louie, and tries to masquerade it by smiling and acting like he enjoys his life style. The only vampires who enjoyed themselves were the ones in France.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 I'm not being facetious or anything, and I'm not saying I don't like Interview with the Vampire, just that I don't like it quite as much as you. I found it hard to relate to Brad Pitt. John Ajvide Lindqvist said something similar in an interview once... "it is very important that your audience can identify with the protagonist. With adult actors there is always a barrier that inhibits me from identifying. I’m not Brad Pitt no matter how much I would want to be."
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou I guess this is subjective. But I can definitely relate to Brad Pitt's pain, and anguish throughout "Interview with the Vampire." Before "Let the right One In", that was one of the first modern vampire films, that showed how terrible it is being a vampire. The irony towards the end, is that no matter how tragic the story could be, humans will always want to have that type of power. Which is the message that "Interview" was sending.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 I agree with you there, I think it's one of the top 3 vampire movies. I do like it a lot. My original point was that IWTV portrayed a lot of decadence and debauchery in the vampire world, and that it sold itself on those virtues. Louie was a counterpoint to that, and a good one, without his character it would've been an exercise in tedium and emotionally univolving. But I do think the lasting memory of that series will be decadence. But it's a great movie, don't get wrong.
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou I think the last thought for "IWAV" will be angst.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 Maybe 50-50. You can't have joy without sorrow, you can't have pain without pleasure etc. So, perhaps it's angst amongst decadence, maybe that's the heart of the story. That way we're both right. ;)
georginiou 1 year ago
@georginiou The decadence is just used to masquerade the under current of what was really going on. "Interview With The Vampire" is a layered film, that shifts and moves according to what the characters go through.
"Let The Right One In" is the better, more emotional, and quiet work of art. But it's not the first film to show how terrible and lonely it is to be a vampire. To my surprise, the first vampire film does exactly what these films accomplished.
Transformers217 1 year ago
@Transformers217 The only reason I go on about decadence within IWTV is mainly because even to this day, people gather to New Orleans and dress up as Lestat, Louie and other characters and have masquerade balls, or rather pseudo decadent parties. It is a lasting theme from the books, even if it is just a veneer or narrative device. I can't imagine anyone doing this with LTROI. Unless they have pool parties where people pretend to kill each other!

@georginiou But the thing is twilight isn't supposed to be all dark and tragic. that's your liking to vampire movies. can i suggest you read the books? and plus, I thought the movie of twilight was too dark, actually. horror-ish. for god's sake, it's a teenage book.
AliceC1127 1 year ago
@AliceC1127 Twilight isn't supposed to be dark and tragic? Edward Cullen is a Byronic hero, meaning he is a tragic hero. His heroism comes from his tragedy, his whole persona is built on angst. Most of the Cullen characters have tragic and dark backstories. Rosalie got gang-raped and murdered did she not? I'm not saying all vampire stories need tragedy, just that it is the theme that allows a vampire story to work. Count Duckula was a vampire, I enjoyed that - as a comedy, not a compelling drama

@georginiou Problem with Twilight is that it exists
BornToDie90 1 year ago
@BornToDie90 I don't have a problem with Twilight, I think the first one is perfectly fine, but it's not a vampire movie, it's a teen romance. If they have paid more attention to what a vampire means, and also made a deeper connection between the characters, it would've been a better movie, rather than an escapist fantasy for 14 year olds and hormonal women!
georginiou 1 year ago 3
@georginiou You! You, my friend, are a prophet! I had the exact same opinions on this film and on the Twilight series; I enjoy knowing there's more people in the world who actually agree. The author hinted that there will be a "happy ending" in the epilogue that he writing. He is writing a sequel but it will only be about 50 pages. Still we will get some closure and I am pretty sure that Eli is going to turn him. I think it will be such a sweet and dark ending. See them riding off into a bloody sunset. lol. by the way I hope they make a movie off the short story.
kryoung1983 2 years ago 2
I think they will, it may take some time but I am 99% sure they will. The end of the movie definitely needed some closure but at the same time, it can go down as a stand alone film and I'm so conflicted about which approach it should take.
deadagain19 2 years ago
Wait. You're basically saying a part 2? :O
OMFGRedo 2 years ago
I don't think Eli will actually turn him. Not without Oskar's consent, at least. Also, in the novel, he said about her (hesitant)proposal of turning him that he didn't want to live THAT life. So, maybe, this alternative could be seen as too extreme. It would be even darker and sadder if we'd see an aged Oskar, living Hakan's condition, and eventually ending up like him, while Eli (reluctantly) makes a new friend. Kind of dark, extreme and silly, I know, but I believe it would work. Or what?
pietroerperugino 2 years ago
I guess we will have to wait for the writers Epilogue to come out but if she doesn't turn him then what is this "happy ending' that he hinted at? To be honest I didn't exactly care for the book, it lacked the ambiguity and subtlety of the film. It seemed the book was more focused on being controversial. I think in the novel the core story should have been explored in more depth. Way too many sub plots that aren't important.
kryoung1983 2 years ago
I liked the book, the only subplot I didn't care for was Tommy's subplot and everyone whose involved in it, including zombie Hakan. He gets a good 100+ pages, but he really only does like 2 things of any importance at all throughout the entire story. Delete zombie hakan, and you automatically nullify Tommy's existence and thankfully the movie did both those things.

I see the title as Eli let the right one in and perhaps saved herself in the process...
nardigan 2 years ago 3
I think both oskar and eli struggle to "Let the right one in" towards the beginning. As time moves along they trust each other, start to like each other, and form a bond that's practically unbreakable. In a way, I don't think Oskar really knows what it's like to be human as well, considering that he fantasizes about death and killing people, especially his tormentors, and he seems to keep to himself.
I think the title suits both characters real well.

I cannot stop being touched and I cannot stop writing that I'm touched.,, That's how brilliant this is!

im always alone and for this film to suppset someone as cold as myself well.. damn good film
