As someone who is actually shopping for a secondhand evo or impreza wrx this is of interest to me. Personally I love the Subaru's warbly throbby flat four voice, but from what I've read the EVO variants are usually that bit sharper.
I'd recommend reading the tests by evo magazine. Generally, they favour the Mitsu in terms of driving dynamics. Plus they tend 2B quicker as well (Mitsu)

Once again you've made another mistake, you compare the "top of the range" Evox and call it standard this is not the case. the Standard Evo X is the Fq300. So to be fair you should compare the Evo x FQ400 of 360 against the STi 330s or Sti 380s and not the 300, or the Subaru cosworth. Bearing in mind that the 365 hp Evo you call standard only just managed to pip less than a second on those circuit which is less than 1% quicker with near 33% more power.
On another note, second pick would be the 135i and even now, when going against my mate's 135, it makes me think I wouldn't mind a swap because it does exude class which unfortunately the X lacks.
As for the RS... not sure who would pick an RS over the 135 or the X. Considering it's also priced above the STI and Golf R which I'd also pick over this (and that's before you take into account the tuning community's potential) and it makes me wonder whether these guys have British bias!

@debodoggy The advantages of the Evo are of use mostly offroad or snow. Most people will never use it there, so it is almost irrelevant. The Focus RS is great for it's money and on asphalt almost no disadvantages against the Evo.

Its funny. I live in america. And over here, since the first generation focus, its been a mediocre or garabage car. exception is the SVT version. Now i know in europe, almost ever car seems to be built better simply because the lack of emissions rules. In a windy road, regardless of what anyone thinks, facts are facts. The new RS would easily keep up with an Evo or an STi on a windy road. Now obviously the handling in the 4 wheel drive is gonna be better, but not by much. Both Cars are great.

Ever since the SVT Focus (The Focus ST170 in Europe), the focus has just faded to dismal non-exciting cars. The SVT was great, but there was a euro RS we wished were in US. Just as i wish my last two SVT's were RS.
I own an Evo IX and love it. But, i'd have to say that i'd rather have a NEW Focus RS instead. I'm an American wishing he'd been born in Europe. Every car seems better in Europe.

Once again you've made another mistake, you compare the "top of the range" Evox and call it standard this is not the case. the Standard Evo X is the Fq300. So to be fair you should compare the Evo x FQ400 of 360 against the STi 330s or Sti 380s and not the 300, or the Subaru cosworth. Bearing in mind that the 365 hp Evo you call standard only just managed to pip less than a second on those circuit which is less than 1% quicker with near 33% more power.

On another note, second pick would be the 135i and even now, when going against my mate's 135, it makes me think I wouldn't mind a swap because it does exude class which unfortunately the X lacks.
As for the RS... not sure who would pick an RS over the 135 or the X. Considering it's also priced above the STI and Golf R which I'd also pick over this (and that's before you take into account the tuning community's potential) and it makes me wonder whether these guys have British bias!

@debodoggy The advantages of the Evo are of use mostly offroad or snow. Most people will never use it there, so it is almost irrelevant. The Focus RS is great for it's money and on asphalt almost no disadvantages against the Evo.

The Evo X hasn't pulled or edging away from the subaru STI they have been on top of each other since the beginning and the whole world knows that but these guys dont because they are stupid. Also I love how the guy revs the 135i and before you know it he will blow it up and also Out of all three the EVO X but I rather have the FQ400 not the FQ300!

Unfortunately we don't have the RS in Australia.I'm driving a re-flashed ST and it's pretty quick.
Maybe with Ford's new global program we'll see the RS in the Asia Pacific region and in Australia.I imagine the North American region would also receive it.

Its funny. I live in america. And over here, since the first generation focus, its been a mediocre or garabage car. exception is the SVT version. Now i know in europe, almost ever car seems to be built better simply because the lack of emissions rules. In a windy road, regardless of what anyone thinks, facts are facts. The new RS would easily keep up with an Evo or an STi on a windy road. Now obviously the handling in the 4 wheel drive is gonna be better, but not by much. Both Cars are great.

I agree with you for the most part, but after Ford worked the bugs out of the U.S. Focus it really is a good reliable car. i drive an '04 with the optional 2.3L engine. It's quick, fun, and I haven't had a real problem with it yet. It's no RS though. Dangit I want an RS!

Ever since the SVT Focus (The Focus ST170 in Europe), the focus has just faded to dismal non-exciting cars. The SVT was great, but there was a euro RS we wished were in US. Just as i wish my last two SVT's were RS.
I own an Evo IX and love it. But, i'd have to say that i'd rather have a NEW Focus RS instead. I'm an American wishing he'd been born in Europe. Every car seems better in Europe.

You would only buy them if you want. There are people who don't care about cars and prefer reliability and economy like everywhere else. And in Europe we have petrol powered engines more economical, powerful and eco-friendly than the Americans. BTW nowadays diesels are not as shitty as you think and i'm not a diesel fan!
