Lol, I still don't understand why people are so dumbfounded how very young people can be extremely talented at anything. It's proven the brain at its youth is the most malleable and can retain much and apply more, quicker than any other time in life. I'm less impressed and see more of an admiration that this potential period isn't being squandered.
Amazing! How could that be -- a 13 year old managed to handle the attacker so well (even though she got a hit on the head) after training Taichi for just 3 months? Has she been practising push-hands as well?
@nouw23 You are correct that tai chi requires years. But it does not need to take as long as many people think. One to three years should be enough for a reasonably healthy person to develop practical expertise. Few teachers teach this way, however. This student had specialized training focusing on root, sticking and following, reading intent, and internal power. Also, this was a limited demo, and did not display all of her skill. Not bad for 2x/week for 3 months, I think.
@nouw23 or a 100. Very few girls can fight and win against a man on adrenaline, if the man gets the first shot. Don't lul yourself into a false sense of security by doing this "inner peace" stuff. Great for meditation, dangerous if you let it inflate your ego and think you can actually fight.
@Calyptico Yeah i was grabbed from behind in a bar by a guy who had 50 pounds on me, and i used that inner peace stuff to easily get out of his hold... It clearly doesn't work and you know what your talking about!!!..... Please go back to trolling MMA threads...
@Calyptico The "inner peace" thing is mainly about not thinking anything. Letting your thoughts go so you are all reflex. Your reactions get faster, movements are smoother, and balance is better, all because you are not letting your conscious thoughts get in the way of your trained reflexes.
Aggressor is always at a disadvantage... she shows she can handle the lines of attack. someone more intense would be ripped apart... provided they train at higher speeds of intensity also.
Emma was 13 in this video. This was a demo for Canada Day (July 1). She began training in March with one private lesson and one group lesson per week. Then she took some time off to write exams, and came back to help with the demo.
awesome awesome awesome. and in just three months? nice. but that one hit could have been a closed fist full force punch. another month of training would fix that problem tho=]
One of the reasons why it may not seem that the attacker is doing much is that the defender has learned to read intent. She intercepts the attack before it is fully expressed. The attack is quite real however.
Actually his arms did reach her. She gets hit in the face during the second exchange. The drill is done with real intent in close range. If she doesn't block she gets hit.
If you look closer, the furthest extent of the guy's arm could never reach the girl. Therefore, it was planned that way to either train confidence or reaction timing for the girl.
can't be 3 months of practice. WOr we have to ask how many hours of practise a day???

@ozgurow two times per week for 3 months. but you need to practice with a partner to get any close!

i wonder how she would fare against any type of real aggressor. like anyone that really tried.

@Electroluch
For that, we would have to see blood.
Thank heavens this is only training. She would have ripped my lungs out through my nose.

@taijiman7777 - Love it. All females should be armed like this. "Wanna rape me? I'll rip your lungs out through your nase." Love it.

@taijiman7777 A real aggressor would hurt her. Real thai chi takes time and patient. You cant learn that in 3 months:)
