This is one of those songs that just jumped out of my car radio and made me pull into a Barnes&Noble to try to find out who the artist was and what the album was called. It's a stone cold classic in my book and "Stranger's Almanac" was the album that opened my eyes up to the Americana scene and remains one of my all-time favorites. I saw them on this tour and I loved the performance although Ryan was very confrontational with the audience (some SMU frat boys who he called "Old 97s fans").
He did a bunch of Whiskeytown songs in Baltimore including this one, Avenues, Houses on the Hill and Jacksonvile Skyline. Fabulous stuff. Really as good as his stuff with the Cardinals if not better.
i would die and go to heaven if ryan got whiskeytown back together with this line up. i love it that he has ed from ohio from firehose on lead guitar.
This is from the Austin City Limits telecast on Jan. 26, 1998. I believe they did 6 tunes -- this was the 1st one. It's the later-Whiskeytown (not as good) lineup, with Jen Snyder & Ed Crawford on bass & lead guitar.
And if I am not mistaken, the bass player is the same Catherine Popper who was one of the very first members of the Cardinals. The violinist, Cailyn Cary is one of the most under-appreciated artists in the Country Music world today. I love her solo albums!

@jaxareback It was recorded for an official release. The only tape I've heard is from Oslo.

This is the first time I've seen this. I've known for years that they had been on ACL but I never could find it anywhere. Thanks for this!

Ryan played this song last night in Dublin, Ireland as part of his 'Acoustic Nightmare' show. It stole the show.

I do believe this would be Whiskeytown, not Ryan Adams.

@cosmkdbree Ryan Adams was the front man for Whiskeytown before going solo and then forming The Cardinals.
