hey guys this studio plus that comes withstudio costs £33, it doesnt say that its a one time only payment nor a yearly payment, can anyone elighten me please? thanks in advance
@arky3000 They have sold upgrades in the past but it seems it is just less expensive or you get more when you just buy the latest version when it comes out.
You can only have one video track overlay on top of the other. However, if you export the video to a file and then re-import it, you could then lay another video over it. Studio only supports two video tracks and three audio tracks with another layer for titles. Another "work around" to experiment with is the DVD menu. You can have motion buttons on a menu. Those can be videos. I believe that supports up to nine. If you export that to video it ignores the DVD menu stuff.
Another idea is to experiment with the Hollywood FX stuff. I believe one of the plug-ins supports up to 99 layers. HFX is pretty powerful all buy itself and has it's own timeline.
This was exactly what I needed but I find that this program runs very slow although I have a new fast computer with 2gigs of ram. Do you have any advise on this problem?
What version of the software are you using? What OS? It runs ok om my PCs. The thing that makes stuff slower is when the software has to render the effect or convert the file into something that is compatible.
Pinnacle studio plus ver 11 on vista 64 bit with 2gigs of memory. I just made more room on the hard drive with had 210 gig left. so 210gig should be enough for working on video. do i need to change the virtual memory or the cache??
I shot myself in front of a green screen. A second camera was on the LCD screen. You need a flat screen do you do not get the scan lines of a CRT-based monitor. Then I put the two videos together keying out the green with the shot from the monitor.
When Studio 9 came out they made three versions. One was an entry level version that shipped with Dazzle hardware. The middle version was Studio 9 and their top version was called Studio 9 Plus. Plus added four major features: Chromakeying, Picture in Picture, pan and scanning and some audio upgrades. In the past you could upgrade from 9 to 9 Plus for around $30. They do not offer that any more since Studio 12 came out. Studio 12 has three versions as well: 12, 12 Plus and Ultimate.
For what it is, Studio is pretty decent. Easy to use, easy to get started, does chromakeying, you can keyframe, more advanced stuff. For most people's needs not bad. If you need more PiPs, you add more layers and that adds more complexities. You can get all of that with Premiere, Final Cut, Avid and others.
For doing more within the program, there are clever ways to do it if you plan. You can use Hollywood FX, use the DVD menu and motion buttons (when out as video menu ignored but video plays).
i bought a Dazzle Capture Card and it had Studio 11.1 with it with a bonus disk that has Hollywood FX on it...
I'm trying to do what you do but it wont let me add 2 videos into each other like you drag and drop your video of your little girl talking... i can't do that :S
The Dazzle just came with a basic version of the Studio software. You need the "Plus" version to do things like picture in picture, chromakeying, etc. Today you would either need to find a Studio 11 Plus upgrade or purchase the most recent version 12 Plus or Ultimate.
You have to be using the "Plus" version. One of the plus features is being able to overlay video. Chromakeying is one of the other features that Plus adds and I forget the third main feature.
I did this with the Plus version of Studio 9. It works the same way in 10, 11 and 12. You use the overlay track to have a video show on top of another video or still image.
I believe that you can work that out with Hollywood FX. Check out the effects and start with the one closest to what you are looking for. They are all infinitely customizable.
If you plan ahead, you could create one video with one overlay, export the finished video to a dv.avi file. Import and add the second video, etc. If you are not making a DVD, you can use motion buttons. I think that you can do nine of those on the screen as long as they do not overlap. When you output to video the menu plays like video. Check out Hollywood FX plug-in. You can layer 99? videos on the screen.
Do not know why your videos are bluring. You can set quality and the lower or less data that you use to create the video the lower quality of the video. I get pretty good results with DivX and MPEG-4. Similar in quality to MPEG-2 and at least one tenth the file size.
Yes, you can make a picture in picture fade in and out. just put the fade filter at the begining and the end of the video that is be overlayed as the PiP.
Yes, but not the way that I show you here. You need to use Hollywood FX as a filter. One of the stock settings has nine picture in pictures on it. With Hollywood FX, It will be a little more complicated but you can control everything including the X, Y and Z axis of each video as well as the picture size.
Hi ionsolutions. Thanks for your videos, which I just saw 1-2-3. I am a 100% newbie. I am trying to do picture-in-picture, however I need rather a photo-in-video, and I want to "shake" the photo a little bit while overlaying the video at the same time. Is there an easy way to do this with Ultimate 12? As a workaround, I could take a video of the photo moving the camera a little bit at the same time, and then picture-in-picture...
You can adjust volume using the sound controls. It brings up the sound controls for all of the tracks and you can mix them in real-time. Another easy way to remove sound is go into the timeline mode and click on the locks for everything but the sound track that you want to get rid of. Then delete the track and unlock everything else.
Yes, with chromakeying you can key using any color. Most use a bright blue or bright green. Reason is these colors do not tend to happen naturally.
With White, you most likely have it in other areas of your photo. If it does not exist anywhere in the photo you can key on it. However if white is also in the photo that will be keyed out as well.
For instance, if I keyed on black in my example video parts of my shirt would be keyed out due to shadows. Other areas as well.
You can do that using Hollywood FX. It's pretty complicated but pick one that is close to what you want to do already and start with that. You can control every aspect from lighting to rotating on an X, Y and Z axis. There used to be a PDF online explaining the use of HFX but I have not found it yet. HFX was originally designed to be more like AfterEffects from Adobe in 3D. It sold for up to several thousand dollars and has it's own timeline, keyframe capability, layers, etc. just like AE.
When working w/pip, I put the main clip on top and inside clip on the pip line. I double click on the inside clip to get the properties screens. I am thinking at this point I would be working with lower clip? I click lower left corner. All I see is the clip that I want to be smaller. It is taking up the whole screen. I cannot get the main video to show through the smaller clip. Do they need to be staggered, or can I start them at that same time?
Sorry, I missed your comment. One "trick" that you can use if you want more than one picture in picture is to create a DVD menu. Use the buttons as video aka "Motion Buttons" and then for how ever many buttons you have you will have picture in pictures. When you output the video the DVD menu will play like a normal video.
Another thing that you can do is use the Hollywood FX plug-in. That will allow you to have as many PiPs as you want with complete control of each one including in 3D.
I like it as long as you have the Plus version and running a version 10.5 or later. Now that 11 is out, I like a few of the things that Ultimate offers. Studio meets 90% of what most people want to do and it is easy to teach anyone how to use it.
If you upgraded to Studio 10+ you could also edit HDV*, DivX®*, MPEG-4 (AVI)*, Non-encrypted DVD Titles. Most files are easy to convert into other types as well.
What do you mean by "blend"? Have one playing on top of the other? Both the same size and have each play at the same time so you see them together? Provide some more detail or an example and I will see what I can come up with.
Worst case is you put the VCD into a DVD player and capture what plays using hardware like MovieBoard/MovieBox into Studio. Then export as iPod MPEG-4 compatible file.
really cool tips !! u rule! gots one question if u could gimme sum of ur knowloedge, i wanna copy vcd files to my ipod how do i do that? i got pinnacle studio 10 plus, thanks!
VCD files are MPEG-1 based. You should be able to import them like you would a DVD under File menu. If not, are they stand alone files that play in Windows Media Maker? If so, you should be able to import them like any other existing video file by clicking on the folder icon and browsing for where the file resides. The last step is to them "Make Movie" and export as a iPod MPEG-4 file. That is already a preset so it is easy to select.
Studio does not support GIFs. It does support bitmap, TARGA, TIFF and JPEGs. You could try using a program that converts graphics formats and change the GIF to one of those four file types.
Thx for the tip!

It's not too bad. You line up both videos to start at the same time and just use the chromakeying capability.

Horhey17 3 years ago
It should be very similar in Studio 12. I have not loaded it yet on my PC. I'll get it and take a look.
ionsolutions 3 years ago
I have it and I know.
You get one video and put it on the Title/picture in picture section. Then put the other one in the normal video section.
Then double click the top video, then press on the icon at the side that is a square with a smaller square inside it. Then go from there.
If you need any more help, just mail me.
