well, actually its hard to say there is a true history about el cid its filled with mythos depending on the source material, if you check the moor tales about him they told histories about atrocities he made during war times, and some historical sources point that he wasn't precisely the noble warrior the poem says, he was kinda of an ambitious noble who looked for a way to obtain more power. anyway i like to think that most of the legend is true, as most of my idealism came from that tale

The music is a masterpiece on it´s own... For the fans, I heartly recommend the 3 CD set, from Tadlow Music... It´s amazing !

Great music by Miklos Rozsa, but your notes are slightly wrong. This performance of the Overture (the DRG 'MR conducts his epic film scores' is it not?) was actually the NUREMBURG Symphony Orchestra. The album notes credit the Hollyood Bowl SO to the Pennario Spellbound Concerto but this is uncredited. If you haven't got the 'TADLOW Music' 3CD set of the ENTIRE score, just out on September 1st, then get it! It's AMAZING. Check their website.

The Cd i have (released in 1991) says Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, but in 1961 there was no such Orchestra, as i found out..

The Tadlow is a new digital recording. Lots of rave reviews. The original recording was junked, alas. It was recorded in Rome, then had to be re-recorded in London, because the sound was bad. But the London tapes were lost. So only a re-recording is possible. There's a 66minute CD of the score on Koch International, recorded in New Zealand, and another with 40 minutes on Sony done in Munich with Rozsa conducting. But the new Tadlow has 2 hrs and 40 minutes!
