  • man what the hell did they do with the m5 they had mounted on her? i loved listening to that m5

  • dose it have the origional moter in it?

  • I like that horn. Nice catch! Those huge units are RARE.

  • @crossinggate84 I agree. I think the horn on this locomotive makes hauling passenger cars sound a lot more pleasant. I mean, it fits with the mood of, "Yeah! I have this great new horn and I'm hauling passenger cars behind me! And it works!" You know, that came out wrong. What I meant to say was that that horn + passenger cars = a pretty good combination.

  • Thumbs UP if you like this horn

  • I love that horn!

  • Sounds nice... lol

  • A tiny bit of Harmonic overblow, sounds amazing otherwise. Reminds me of my ex Santa Fe S3L

  • there were 2 dda40xs that were built with sirens only two of them though im not sure if either of those two locomotives survived with the sirens

  • Horns are meant to sound horrible. People will avoid them that way. :P

  • reminds me of conrail SD60I's

  • You should hear the 6946's horn bellowing through the Feather River Canyon. The most beautiful locomotive air-horn in the world!

  • i love the sound of that horn ,,,, great video

  • That looks like a really wierd looking locomotive and sounds wierd too lol...looks short and stubby in the front.

  • what are you talking about? that sounds great!

  • That's the way it should sound like!!! Great sound!!!!

  • I actually like that hornsound

  • omg great sound!Maybe you meant too loud?

  • it sounds great!

  • thats not how an RS-3 should sound

  • the horn is alright. there is rs3l that r worse

  • ewwwwwwwwwww.............

  • i say its just wieird not like whay the title says

i mean tehre could be a possablitly the horn was getting out of tune

  • love it

  • Dude.................. That RS3L Sounded GREAT

  • its totally wierd type of horn

  • WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!

  • sounds fine to me.

  • Blarg.

  • Awful

  • Sounds great

  • @UnionPacific6936 yea its sounds great

  • i could have sworn that locomotive uswed to have a nathan m5

  • RS3L! It Is Perfect,

  • ts fine

  • its no that bad. i've heard some that sound like lame truck horns

  • Sounds like a damn boat..

  • that got one of those trains in portola

  • I've heard worse horns.

  • dats a big ass loco

  • Why didnt they keep that M5 on this awesome locomotive?:(

  • That's a S3LR

    The Nathan M5 sounds cool....

  • That's a S3LR

    The Nathan M5 sounds cool

  • @HarveyHenkelmann

Yeah buddy! They need to take apart the #44 chamber and clean it, and then throw some shower caps on all three of them. What they really should do is restore it to the original glory of the S-5T. That's what those Centennials first had.

  • It sounds terrible. For everyone who is living near to the rails it´s a hell to hear it every day!

  • are you kidding, that horn sounds great.

  • What a beautiful train. that locomotive looks AWESOME!!! Like a twin engine dragster. I just Love those old domed pullman style cars. And yes a Nathan k5la would improve the image a bit:):):):):). GREAT VIDEO thanks for sharing.

  • Thats A Beautiful M5

  • Sounds OK to me................

  • it's had several horns over the years as they've been ripped off on more than one occasion.

  • and I thought I was a train geek.

  • I've heard worse.

  • Didn't it have a Nathan K3L series horn before? Someone posted a pacing vid where the K3 sound was clearly obvious.

  • Fouled S3L......not bad, though.

  • Yeah.. sounds like the 44 bell is clogged, or something is fouling it. 32 sounds like theres something with it as well...

  • More like a Leslie RS5-T or RS3-L

  • I think it has a nice horn!!

  • I don't think this horn sounds awful. Maybe not as good as an M-5, but it still sounds kind of nice.

    -Alex

  • I agree, Alex, this horn does sound good, and it's on a Centennial.

    Not bad!

  • They did change the horns now. The Leslie RS3L was taken off and was replaced by a Nathan M5....."King of Horns" and it does sound awesome

  • Nice, the horn is cool but more like a Conrail horn.

  • I Like That horn! It Is The Origanal I Think

  • THis is music to my ears!!

  • That train set sure is clean and shiny! Cool vid

  • I wouldn't say the horn sounds awful. I don't think it fits the DD40, but it's not bad. Better than those new K5LLA's at least...

  • You are totally right.

  • Keep in mind I'm dislexic. Anyway, sounds great to me.

  • Well, the 6936 did have an M5 at one point, but I'm glad they put the RS3L back on. It does it more justice.

  • nice engine, bad horn

  • It had a much better sounding horn in 2007, with a nice echo in the Feather River Canyon.

    Go here...

Union Pacific DDA40X Meets BNSF ES44DC at Virgilia Siding

  • I really don't think that horn sounds right for that engine. Maybe it's the fact that 6936 is the only Centennial to ever have one, and for a short time. It just sounds weird for what your looking at. Now, a WP GP40, that's a different story.

  • That Leslie sounds a lot better than those annoying horns on the SD70M-2's and ACE's

  • Those obnoxiously loud K5LLA's are the only Nathan Air Chime products I've liked the sound of since old casting P5's and P3's.

  • I'll take that horn over a UP K3LA "screecher" any day.

  • I AM SOOOO WITH YOU ON THAT ONE!!!

  • I third that!!

  • Well put!

  • this horn isnt bad at all. not perfect, but it has the S power chambers, which commonly squealed, the RS chambers from leslie fixed this problem.

  • You are absolutely correct.

  • is not that bad the horn... i ve heard worse horns out there.... take care =)

  • wtf? the dd40x is suppose to have a m5!!

  • very nice, it sure would sound nice w/ a Leslie RS3l

  • that is an RS3L on there!! it just isnt working completely!

  • It's just a S-3L, it doesn't have the improved power chambers.

  • I personally like the horn normally. But that sounded bad

  • I got some good shots of in Lexington, NE on 19 April, they were doing a crew change.

  • i wish i could see it in peoria tomorrow but it suppose to come 10 minutes after i get off from school and i live 20 miles away from peoria
