Tried to find my first cache last Friday in Derby, UK without success. This great video is inspiring me to keep trying to find my first - there are 10 within 15 minutes of where I live. Unfortunately tomorrow was the day I planned - and will have to perservere - rain or not!
luckily in new york it is hard to find a spot with no cell service, so i am licky, and my iphone brings me to within 9 feet of a geocache, which beats any gps i have ever tried. guess i gotta stick to geocaching in areas with cell reception for now
Obviously you've never used my GPSr! Mine is WAAS enabled and is usually accurate within 3 meters or less. Mine practically plants me on top of the cache (or underneath for those that are hidden above) unless I'm in an area where there is signal interference (in which case my GPSr is still usually accurate within 20 feet). I particularly enjoying wilderness caching, which is why I purchased my particular device. I am glad that geocaching with your phone is meeting your needs.
@jotaeleproductions Don't get the reason for the reply, you are saying your gps is as good as my phone? Actually last Sunday in fairly open woods I got within 3 feet of a cache.
Very nice video! One suggestion for a newbie is to look online for a local geocaching club or organization.
The experienced cacher is always willing to assist the rookie. They may even create a caching date with you. You can see first hand how to find a cache, but understand not all gps units will have the same accuracy and the cache could be some 20-50 feet away in the woods!
yes, but its hardr. when you look at the map, you can click on satelite image...you do yourself some points, like supose the 3rd tree from X tree. thats what I do..
Did a geocache a while back with a group but this video was a good refresh before I look into buying a GPS of my own. Straight to the point and fun to watch. Loved the cheesy music too :P
And indeed I have gone paperless (a long time ago). However, not all beginners are able to start out paperless. The video is intended to help people get started geogaching. It is by no means the end of things to learn!
Great video! The lines sound a bit over-rehersed/as though you're just reading them, but the composition, choice of music and execusion of the video is great :D
terrific 101. before i began this hobby your video was one of the first tutorials i found. from your suggestion, a walking stick has been a favorite of mine. many of the caches are in wooded area and my walking stick has made it easier to move debris and poke around the area of a tree. thanks!
Great introductory video. How about a second episode covering logging finds online and moving Travel Bugs/Geocoins? This seems to be the most misunderstood area of caching for beginners. Happy caching! Dave
Thanks for the video! I had never even heard of geocaching until yesterday, and now I am seriously interested in getting into it! Cash is limited, so it will be a bit yet before I can get a GPS unit, but what a wonderful way to explore!
Geocaching is a blast! You might go ahead and check the geocaching (.com) website for caches located in your area (by zipcode). Some can be found just by the clues without really needing a GPSr.
Cool Video!

Good video, but some phones now have apps from geocaching sites built in, I can geocache with only mu iphone now, which is handy

@johnmonk66
True. But, cell phone geocaching does not work so well in remote areas. That's when you need a real deal GPSr. : )
