Back in 1951, TV was done live, and the performer was out of luck if it didn't go over well, What you need to remember is that the Borge material you're used to seeing (from his later years) is the result of his trying probably thousands of different routines/jokes/sketches on audiences, eliminating what didn't work and keeping what did.

@captain21x I kinda felt bad for him during the first act, of the secretary. I got the joke, but people barely laughed, and you really feel bad for him. im not usally this sensitive lol
