I'm from Vancouver and consequently I'm in the habit of waving buses down. I now live in Montréal, and the drivers here tell me every time, "Madame, pas besoin de me signaler que vous voulez prendre l'autobus ! C'est bien évident puisque vous êtes là!"
@Mascherina1964 That may be the case ... but at some bus stops several buses could stop and therefore the fact that you are there does not necessarily mean you want to take a given bus. In any case you might be there parce qu'il pleut et vous avez besoin de l'abri!
