Have you tested it under sunlight? Our group's having trouble about the LDR or photoresistor not being able to be that sensitive under sun light, any ideas to solve it?
@magnificat19 I havnt tested it lately but I had similar issues with earlier sensors and found by placing a shodow vane between the two sensors works ...
isn't it simply possible to make it with 2 comparator chip that look for the lightresistor and then dependly on the one that capt more light it make turn a motor in one side to a other with a H-bridge?
I have access to some actuators from satalite systems (24V) and I need to make a tracker for my 420W PV array! I am a disabled Vet living on my disability, and wanting to live within my means! The more my little system can track the sun, the more hot water and electricity i can have! I use my PV for heating air and water, plus my ham radio needs! Tracking can make as much as 40% more power! I can build it, but might not understand it! any help would be great! TU AR SK .. Joe
Can you please post the link to access the circuit diagram. I try logging into the website but apparently they don;t have it anymore. I appreciate your help!

I'm VERY new to this stuff. How do I calculate lower resistor values? Any links on the subject? I assembled this circuit on a board the other day in hopes of powering a 4.8 volt cordless screwdriver... Circuit-no-work it :(
you could (depending on your panel) devide its output into 2 6v panels at 1/2 the watts... or just use two 6v batteries and charge them in parallel ...
Cool this made my day, sorry for not staying in contact, I just have been out of the solar stuff for a while. The poor climate in Canada must affect me a little.
Can you do another video and explain and demonstrate how the 10K pot controls the motor speed? Or would you need some kind of gear train to slow the rotation and increase torque? (The Greenwatts website has is a great reference.)
Hi Roy ... this just shows the the test circuit but the 10K pot is used to set the reference point for the comparator the 50K pot actually controlls how much current is fed to the motor ... it determines the feedback on the comparator and in turn determines how much current is fed to the base of the transistors... I will put a full explanation on the greenwatts site later today hoepfully

All I have to say is FOCUS! Not that hard

How large an array will this tracker move? The motor looks really small but I never say never just because it "looks" small.

Can this circuit run on 4 AA bateries with 2.5 volts being the common ground?
SethRocksYou 2 years ago
cant see why not ... you will have to calculate lower resistor values to make sure there is enaough current to forward bias the transistors

Wow that pot looks expensive! Nice job dude. This is very interesting but I think I will need to do some stretching before attempting...lol.
