  • The 2010 BC Golden Gloves are expected to take place in Victoria in April. It will mark 50 years since Vancouver

Island boxer Alan Curtis won the Soecial "Golden Boy"

    award.

It was also, Victoria staged the big comeback of the Diamond Belt tournament in 1980 and hosted the 1994

    Commonwealth Games.

  • good fight

  • Hey Zelley, U R from the island arent you?

  • Yes but in 1968 I was a member of Vancouver's Firefighters boxing club along with Freddy Fuller, Frankie Scott, Dave Wylie and others.

  • Both boxers need improvements in footwork to

    ensure effective balance and movement.

  • I recognize the referee, but cannot put a name to him

  • Last name Angeloumatis.

  • Ahh!! Yes, great coach, too

  • Alex Angelomatis. George's brother

  • THANK you. God bless him for his work, too. G.A. is quite a good coach, imo. I don't know him, though; met him a couple times

  • I trained with Alex 30 years ago at the Astoria/Northwest Eagles. He was a nice guy and one of the best amateur light-middleweights in BC. Its good to see him again.

  • Awesome!!! BC Golden Gloves (Vancouver) are always in March. Damned media coverage totally sucks. ToALLY SUXXX there isn't any. In the 60's we'd get a whole page and a half, and 3500 people out to watch the two day tourney. Today, there are maybe 3 lines on the back of the sports pages.

  • The 2009 B C Golden Gloves are slated for

May 9 and 10 th. in Richmond.

Aside from the Lower Mainland Clubs, expect action from places like Nanaimo and Kelowna.

  • Thanks bub

  • In most cases, the various clubs need to take charge and report the news in there local weekly newspapers.

A few locals have covered 2009 Golden Gloves

including the Castlegar News and the Kelowna Capital News.

Various club officials, need to pick themselves up from the

"sofa" or "easy chair" and lead the charge by reporting the facts in their local newspapers.

The Boxing B C team need to shell out a few bucks and advertise.

Then one can phone the sports departments, or protest!
