  • This is one of the most romantic and beautiful songs of all time.

  • GReat song, but the you got my nr. part they could've left out and filled with more chorus..

  • Memories!!!!Good music...

  • I never knew a full version of this song existed. I used to love this song when Family Ties came on and sometimes wished it was longer because the song only lasted a minute for the intro. Now that I discovered this is a full song I fell in love with it all over again like it's brand new. Thanks for posting this song. ;)

  • This is wonderful, they had a different couple sing it on the Family Ties show. This song is a classic. Johnny and Neicey just perfect.

  • Love this song !!! Def gonna be my wedding song :-)

  • were can i find the same music but saxafon version

  • Ok so my question is did they remake the song for the show or did they have another couple do it?

  • Sounds clear

  • The Family Ties version (re-recorded for the show) begins and ends differently. For example this original version fades out, the Family Ties recording has a definite ending.

  • Freakin 80's, jus awesome time to be alive !!!!! love this show and music

  • Wow . Every Time that song comes on , i think of alex :) ..

  • I am a huge fan of the 80's sitcoms growing up in NYC, and thise theme song was my fav...thank you for posting...

  • Beautiful song. Didn't know they grooved like that at the end! Plus, Deniece Williams has the voice of an absolute ANGEL!

  • Excellent jam!!!

  • ok very very ok tanks for clip

  • This is the original song..It's great.....

  • It's great to be able to hear the full version.

  • I thought johnny mathis was a white guy???lol

  • @Machelle3200

    LOL

Lordy, where have you been, Sugar?

  • @Machelle3200 LOL!!!! Too Funny!

  • i've heard of johnny mathis...he doesn't reallying my kind of music but Ilove this original version of the song that was used as the familiy ties theme

  • this nice right here

  • Kel Mitchell Likes this song!!!!!

  • When was this version recorded? Sounds like around 1983.

  • Yea that theme song for family ties was to good not to be a real song

  • @shesobreezy I know, right

  • love it this is music!

  • What would we do baby without us?!!

  • @Sage80 it was re-recorded for the TV series but pretty much the same... Seems like the chopped up the song then re-recorded the ending

  • OMG I looooove this song it is the best

  • Thanks for posting this

  • This was a great song which was chosen for the theme song for the TV series "Family Ties." Obviously the long version! Superb video!

  • best theme to a sitcom ever???

  • luv this song sooooooooo much.............

  • this means FAMILY TIES

  • hands down one of the best themes of ALL TIME!!! haha

  • what can i say

  • Just heard this on HUB.

  • hmm...the very beginning of the family ties theme is not found anywhere in this song. it mustve been a tag on from someone on the show. anybody know?

  • @Sage80 yes the first words they say is right on the theme dude.

    try watching it again.

  • @gsboy45 no. The first bit of music in the theme. I didnt say WORDS. I said theme. dude.

  • @Sage80 oops my fault ! and secondly u were right!

  • wow an Entire song wqith an actual Title (in thew show's closing credits it was simply titled "Us"

  • True collabs like this about the meaning of true love are no more in our seemingly downward spiral of the music in todays world. This is what music needs to go back to. The ORIGINAL stuff. the years where singers like Johnny Mathis and Niecey displayed ORIGINALITY in their music.

  • Aaah family ties, the 80's.. a small tear just trickled down my cheek.

  • I remember this song from Family Ties, never knew it was an entire song, thanks for posting it brings back wonderful memories.

  • greatest song ever!

  • @Firestormify Thanks for the info. I used to love this show and the

theme song. Either it's been too many years and I forgot or some how

I didn't catch this was Johnny Mathis and Deneice Williams! What

    a pleasant surprize!

  • Appreciate YouTube addition.

  • This is the Family Ties Theme correct. I like it very much.

  • good music

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! OH MY GOD <3

  • love the 70s

  • I wasn't aware this was a "real" full length song...!

it was always one of my favorite theme tunes but it's wayyy better in full length.

as for the drum debate, it kinda does sound like TOTO's drummer, it's really smooth and groovy to play along with (or try at least $-X )

another amazing smooth theme drum section is in ALF's tune.

  • There was another version of this song with the Tom Scott saxophone solo in the middle. I would love to have that version. In all due respect to Johnny and Denise, it was Tom Scott that made this song.

  • I used to watch Family Ties because of this song. I gotta find this on CD. William, I hope you check this out.

  • I bought my version on iTunes.

  • I was searching the wrong artist for years for this song I kept on putting Roberta Flack in the search box with this song

I thank god for the person who wrote me on here to tell me to find thanx a million

  • Classic tune!

  • Heard Brian Bonsall is doing good these days.

  • For those interested, this is an ALL-STAR song: Jeff Porcaro (drums), Mike Porcaro (bass), Lee Ritenour (guitar), Paulinho Da Costa (percussion), Greg Phillinganes (Fender Rhodes, keyboards), Ernie Watts (sax, tenor), Vincent DeRosa (French horn), arranged and produced by David Foster.

  • @Pitumisio ...wow amazing crew, the sound of the 80's...ahhhhh :)

  • @keithmilbank ... unbelievable groove, atypical for a soul pop ballad as this but later perceivable in the greatest Toto tracks. It's all in the Porcaro drum/bass line I think.

  • @Pitumisio ..

    I knew it. Jeff Porcaro!!

  • @Pitumisio pretty sure this is not Jeff Porcaro on this track. Doesn't sound like his drum sound at all. It's either Ed Greene or Mike Baird on this track, as they also appear on this album. I think it's Ed Greene. I'm fairly sure it's Jeff Porcaro on the track "I just can't get over you" off the same album though.

  • if i knew this was a full song i would have totally used this for the first dance at my wedding. this is great!

  • @humbucker08 really, so what song did you go with then?

  • @humbucker08 We did! My wife walked down the aisle to this song.

  • @3842Crew My wife also walked down the aisle to this song.

  • @humbucker08

I was just thinking the same thing because its a great song for a couples first dance. I think ill do that when I get married

  • yes, when family ties first season aired it was a slighty different song by different artist, however the beauty of deniece williams and johnny mathis voice is iconic!!! and there version is way better than the first season song thats why they changed it other song was rather flat, dull!

  • The original Song on Family Ties was sung by someone else, I believe a couple of years later they brought in this Version if I'm correct.. Because I remember when I first found out and realized that it was them I was shocked..

  • @stevieplez2 naw this is the original..this is amazing.....

  • @Nerdbama No this is not the original they redid it a couple of seasons later, just GOOGLE it

  • @stevieplez2 yeah this is true cause my cuz is the son of the guy who sung its.

  • @stevieplez2 They started using this version in season two, the 1983-84 season.

  • yeah, he has an East

    Indian look in truth

  • Is he Indian???

  • no he's biracial actually

  • He sounds a lot like Al Jarreau from the moonlighting theme on this song.

  • indeed!!!

  • I was looking for this one!!! Ty!!

  • Sha-la-la-la

  • I knew they sang the song on family ties but I didn't know it was a full song, love it

  • I knew there had to be a full version somewhere.

Little did I know it was the same duo who performed "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late".

    Learn something everyday. :)

  • got to love this family ties baby lol

  • the 70s. Cool.

My parents were in their 20s and "in love". oooh sexy time.

  • It's from the 80's, not 70's

  • didn't know it was Johnny Mathis until two years ago. No wonder I have always loved this theme (and the show).

  • OMG...I didn't realize the was a whole song. I thought they just recorded a jingle for Family Ties. What a treat!

  • great track

  • I love Family Ties - my name is Alex, after the show - my parents watched it all the time when they were dating

  • @roosters86 How romantic .

  • CLASSIC GOLD!!!!!!!

  • I loved the show, "Family Ties," as did our children, but they knew the most fun I got from watching it was hearing the theme song, and knowing that millions of people were hearing it along with me! Johnny Mathis is my favorite singer, as you can see, if you visit my site!

  • Me too. It used to ome on Nick at Nite and one night I was asleep and head the song and fell in love with it. I am glad to see that it is an actual recording!!!
