@blues3531 The 911 is the best daily driver money can buy, even topgear admit this. The boxster does not have the looks over a 911. Its a great 2 seater sports car don't get me wrong i have one also. Black with black wheels its great, but lacks massive power compared to the 911 ofcourse. The problem is, everyone can afford a boxster, they are so so cheap now its rediculous. I paid 33,000 GBP for mine, now they are available for less than 5k. Its silly

As Clarkson once said, the made the cayman in such a way that it will never be as good as the 911, "and i couldnt live with having something that isnt as good as it could be" .. The 911 is a powerhouse. The cayman is just in the market to bridge the gap between the 911 and bioxster. The cayman S doesnt even get near the basic 996 anyway. Infact the boxster S could probably beat the cayman S. Both arnt really a true Porsche. ..

@DRP996 All my life I wanted a Boxster S over the 911 solely on the looks. Theyre still both Porsches and the Boxster is no slouch. Its reality now as I got my life long dream car. Maybe in 10 years I'll get a 911 because I love the GT3 but wouldn't want one as a daily car.

Word is that Porsche gave the Cayman a very very long 1st and 2nd gear for reasons obvious in this video. People have claimed [online] that by changing the reatios of the 1st and 2nd gear to shorter ones got a much better launch from their Caymans

Much more important than straight line performance and Porsche's claims is that a Boxster S or a Cayman S is only marginally slower or even as quick as a Carrera S in real life performance on twisty B roads... But it is 40k € less!

@Federstahl Since this is the case, maybe the Cayman should succeed the 911 since the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GTR have the same performance at much lower prices than the GT2. You can only do so much with the 911 that the Cayman is a revolution.

The best I have heard of are 4.1 and 4.3 seconds from Road & Track and Car & Driver, respectively. Those were probably in near ideal conditions of tarmac grip, temp, etc though, so about 4.5 seconds is probably a safe bet in more average conditions.

@PorscheGTthree They should, though. Interestingly, the new Cayman S with the PDK gearbox has been reported to do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds (the same as a Carrera S). The original Cayman's cornered better than the 911's, and the new Caymans with the limited slip differentials annihilate the 911's. Porsche needs to admit that the 911 is flawed and explore the Cayman's true potential. Car reviewers and Porsche themselves know that it could easily be their best car if they gave it the chance.
