He's just having fun, it doesn't appear that he's hurting himself. I have had cats that do that. One of my cats used to give her tail dirty looks when it was wagging and when it didn't stop she'd try to bite it. LOL !

my dog used to do the same thing but she was mental she'd chase her own butt then yelp when she bit her tail, she'd catch and eat small animals chewed the rear end off a box turtle , ate a porcupine we had to pull the spines tthat were embedded in her mouth, face and tounge out with pliers my poor dumb dog oh and she ate a skunk she stank for weeks afterward

As i've said many many times before - Alfie has more toys than you can shake a stick at and we play with him all the time. So i dont think its that he's bored - just stupid. Tried catnip but that just sends him totally spaz, so stopped giving him that !. He doesnt do it so much these days but when he does, i'll vid it again coz it makes me chuckle !

My cat Holly does this, she's a teeny bit high strung and stressed out by life in general. She usually does it when she gets frustrated by something i.e. not being able to catch her shadow. She grabs one back leg and pushes herself around in a circle with the other whilst biting...kinda funny to watch.

It means that Alfie is a very smart cat who needs lots of play and stimulation. If he doesn't find it in his environment, he makes it up. If he were mine, I'd provide him with interesting toys and at least a couple of play sessions a day. Or, perhaps a brother or sister?

Dosido48 - thanks for the info. He has a "sister" who is 15 and doesnt like the kind of games he likes to play - she just wants a quiet life. He has more toys than you can shake a stick at and we play with him every day. He hasnt done this for a while (saying that i video'd him doing it last nite) so hopefully he's growing out of it.!

Um, don't panic but my cat did that before he started having seizers and died. Of course this is just me thinking about him. It may have no connect to him being sick; they could both just be playful. Thanks everyone for all the comments. We're not worrying about him - we just think his a bit "special". He gets played with alot so its not boredom. We also have another cat Squeak who is 15 years old so she really isnt into the games he likes to play. He gets wormed on a regular basis and he's got no skin allergies. He seems to like it and we like watching him (his killer leg gave his head a right good kicking the other day)so I may put some more vids on if he has another good session!

wow i have never seen such a severe cause of neural degenerative mastitis. i am currently working on this newly elucidated disease in cats and other animals and we are a long way from a cure. the main cause is poor nutrition along w/ hereditary factors. please feed this cat properly and don't skip out on meals.
