  • Wow. Best choir there is.

  • I love how their faces and expressions portrayed the beautiful message of this prayerful song!!

  • @angelmonsud I've said this before, the teardrop shed by the singer at 5:09 will carry a stronger witness of the truth than any of the messages of those who appose the Works of God. This version is divine, and so uplifting.

  • @scubawrestler Thats right!! At that point(5:09) I always join this girl :(... This song is specially close to me right now because I'm part of a choir that is singing this song at the moment. We go about sharing the message for different venues. I just hope and pray that we can develop the faith sufficient to portray what this beautiful choir do.

  • the first time i heard this song was on the mission field. had a bad day tracting and me and my comp went to a member's house and she showed us the dvd. we were so pumped up to get back on the field and knocked more doors! two years later i sang this very arrangement at BYU-Hawaii concert choir together with part of the MOTAB for the BYU-H golden jubilee. such good memories!

  • What inspired lyrics! All believers have felt the emotions in this sacred prayerful hymn. This music makes me try a little harder to be a little better.

  • very nice,I enjoy playing this song on my bagpipes

  • I have sung this masterpiece with a large chorus and orchestra similar to this one and I can testify to you that it is a major spiritual experience. During the performance, I too had tears streaming down my cheeks. It was difficult to continue to sing with any tone or quality because of the depth of the spiritual experience. If you want to know what religious beliefs produce such spiritual highs, find your local LDS Missionaries and talk with them. There's good reason.

  • I love the soprano singing at 5:20.

    WOW!

  • Wonderful. It´s one of my favorite songs . greets from germany. ty for your performence

  • The teardrop shed at 4:14 testifies, more than any word could do, that the young woman singing knows who her Savior is. There is nothing any "anti" can say that would ever negate this for me. That teardrop will do more good for The Kingdom, than any of their rantings will ever be able to harm. It will work latter-day miracles in the hearts of the truly faithful.

  • @scubawrestler yes, Im with you.... the young woman and the tear...moved me lots. Maybe she was thinking of what you guys call the celestial kingdom...maybe she was just touched by Mack Wilbergs fantastic arrangement - we will never know. In the end it doesnt matter....what matters is decency and care for our fellow human beings and that on its own, if there is your celestial kingdom, may get some of us non LDS people in by the side door :) but Im not ready for heaven yet - too much to do

  • @AmandaCaines Dear Amanda. The Gospel, as I understand it, includes the means by which all of Heavenly Father's beloved children (that's you, me, and everyone else) may return to his Celestial Kingdom. There is no need for the "side door" as you put it. All of us may walk in, humbly knowing we are loved and welcome.

I believe the young woman knows how much Christ loves us all. God bless you in your many many endeavors.

  • @AmandaCaines Please know that her tears as well as your's and mine are from the Holy Ghost testifying that the message in this song are true. I will not speak of the doctrine of the Church. However, you may want to visit with the Missionaries and ask about the Celestial Kingdom/

  • This is really divine... How different from "today's music" which really degraded from its purpose of giving glory to God. Praise Him!

  • I only listen to most songs, even the good ones, once in a while. This song however is very different, in that among other good feelings that I feel, I feel the sacredness of this song, and remember my purpose here on Earth when I listen to it. thank you Tantera Records for allowing it to be posted on YouTube.

  • Oh my gosh. Thank you Thank you for uploading such a beautiful piece of music . It brings tears to my eyes every time i hear it. Thank you

  • This is the most powerful recording of this piece I have ever heard. Great job = )

  • I had the privilege of singing this with the BYU-I choirs for the dedication of the new BYU-I center. It was one of the greatest moments of my life. I sincerely believe that I got to touch heaven....or maybe it touched me? who knows.

  • @Brivixxycej8 I was there. I heard you all sing. It was as breathtaking as this.

  • @scubawrestler

Thank you for that. It's perhaps the most meaningful compliment I've ever received on youtube by far. :)

  • That woman crying is beautiful.

  • the whole song makes some kind of sense somehow to someone somewhere :) i wonder what kind of situation the author was in that would have him find such deep words to describe his inner feelings about his relationship with the Father. such a blessing for those who can write great works and not get credit until after their death. i love this song :)

  • @fonongaloa The hymn--as a poem--was written in 1758 by Robert Robinson before preaching a sermon at Calvinist Methodist Chapel in Norfolk, England, and later set to music. There's a lot of info out there on both the author, who as one might suspect was a repentent sinner, and the hymn. Knowing what an "ebenezer" is makes a lot more sense out of the song. One of the best explanation I have found is at revneal.org. Search on "ebenezer" and read "what's an ebenezer".

  • @isartam I AGREE BROTHER. I WAS SURPRISED YEARS AGO WHEN I LEARNED THAT AMAZING GRACE WAS WRITTEN BY A FORMER SLAVE RUNNER TO THE WEST INDIES. I GUESS IT'S TRUE WHAT JESUS SAID SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HAVE SEEN AND BELIEVE AND HOW MUCH MORE BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO BELIEVE AND YET HAVE NOT SEEN......I BELIEVE THE EBENEZER WAS A STATEMENT CARVED INTO A ROCK FOR A STAND POINT OF AN EARLY PROPHET. I'LL LOOK UP THE WEBSITE PROVIDED. THANKS DOOD or doodet :)

  • @fonongaloa Call me DOOD, thank you.

  • @isartam cool DOOD :) have a blessed day!

  • @isartam "ebenezer" is the anglicanization of a Hebrew contraction which means

    "Rock of Help/Salvation" Eban Ezharh.

  • @scubawrestler True, but there's much more to both the origin of the word and to the hymn itself. Also, if you know the Biblical origin, you can see why Dickins would choose it for his main character in his "A Christmas Carol."

  • @isartam Exactly.

  • We had zone conference back on my mission... At the end of the conference, the authority wrapped up his talk and finished with this video clip... The spirit was so strong that day.. 11 years after, I still remember that conference beacuse of this song...

  • What a great arrangement of a charming song. This video and song I never tire of.

It builds and builds. The girl with the tear gets me everytime because she feels about music the way I do....that great music is soul stirring. I'd say now, that you can play this at my funeral. But alas, because I am a drummer, some idiot will think I prefer "wipeout."

  • @TheBestbigband : Awesome comment. Made me smile. THANKS!!

  • milodious? ;)

This is very beautiful! Love this so much no matter how many times it has been sung

  • love this song..i really wish i can see them sing this song..love the music also..really great music arrangement..Amen to this song..

  • I think the tear coming down the cheek of the choir members face says it all.

  • Even though this is only a recording I got chills from it! Definitely one of those "wish I was there" performances. Great job BYU and great arrangement of a classic hymn.

  • This is one powerful arrangement of one powerful hymn! I have listened to this as many as 10 times right in a row while at my computer.

  • "We thank you for every good and perfect gift which comes down from you, the Father of Lights"--end of the Liturgy of St John Chrysostom

  • @profling well said . . .

  • SO BEAUTIFUL! It makes me feel at peace when my life is full of hardships. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful song!

  • I get teary thinking how many angles are singing with them

  • there's nothing like BYU, it's the BEST

  • We have done this arrangement at my church. It's a very difficult arrangement, but oh so powerful when done right! Praise God for His blessings!

  • Great performance and great arrangement of this beautiful hymn.

    Kudos!

  • I've watahced this over and over, and I often get teary...especially when I see the soprano with tears running down her cheeks near the end. Bravo BYU!

  • I was at the taping of the DVD/Program, and it was a beautiful and spiritually uplifting program. I had recently buried my nine month old daughter and was struggling. The words of this song and Redeemer of Israel reminded me that Jesus loves me - and no matter how difficult life is, Christ is there to carry my burdens. 'Jesus sought me when a strange...he to rescue me from danger' is the message of the atonement. Years later I still say "here's my heart..seal it for thy courts above"

  • @mypearlzofwisdom - Your sweet daughter is resting in Jesus' lap now, and God is in charge!

  • Yes, always brings me to tears too.

  • beautiful song one of my favorites. you don't even have to be religious to appreciate this

  • I remember watching this video in the MTC and then singing it in the MTC choir...still makes me cry.

  • Beautiful job!

  • It's moments like these when we are all at our best that people are able to sense that there is something greater within every person on this earth. I love this level of performance. I love the feeling that every person performing in this group must've had in their heart as they sung or played a musical instrument. I love the deep moving impression I get from things like this and I would love to be a part of something like this someday. It is that feeling that testifies of how things really are.

  • What then shall I say? Amen, and God bless you.

  • You've expressed what I have felt about this piece since I first saw it years ago.

  • @BrotherBytheway You already are! And thank you for your testimony.

  • I often find the story behind a hymn as important in many ways as the hymn itself. Many hymns were written by those who wrote many hymns--the Wesley brothers come to minde--and though the devine inspiration can't be discounted, there are some like The Battle Hymn of the Republic or Eternal Father Strong to Save has specific inspiration. This is one such hymn. I found the story here: Google on "Come Thou Font of Every Blessing, the Song and the Story." The hymn means even more to me now.

  • The cowboy definition of "grace" is when we get what we don't deserve, and "mercy" is when we don't get what we do. I have the lyrics of this hymn taped to the side of my computer monitor to remind me that I am receiving what I have not, and cannot as a sinner, "earn." Though I may struggle to be a better person and better Christian, only by the blood of the lamb am I saved. Indeed, how great a debtor...

  • Amen and Thank you for your very true and powerful words.

  • aaaah...i love this song! it's so soothing...it's best sung by Kokua at Hume Lake :P

  • i am a new convert, Baptism-4-3-09, and so am just starting to understand what faith is. But moments like this reaffirm my choice to join the Church and to know that God truly exists and wants what is best for us. I feel his love and faith in me more and more every day and i love him for it.

  • Welcome! Remember those feelings of the Spirit when trials come. There WILL be difficult days ahead and persecution for your choice, but God HAS a prophet, and he HAS testified to you of the truth of his work.

  • @twolabs Praise God! I also am a Christian and I just couldn't keep myself from commenting on this post when I saw it. It's so much more than religion to get to know God intimately. The words to this piece for me are just so true that it does affirm everything that we believe in. I'm praying for you.

  • @twolabs hey continue inthe faith you have felt to be baptized in the church... i am from peru.. i dont speak english but i could say that i know that joseph smiht was a prophet and indeed god spake with him.... i thank god for living and working to save his children.. lo siento por mi ingles talves no lo entindas.. hey sigue adelante. dont give up nos vemos miguel carrasco desde lima peru

  • @twolabs I was baptized 4-3-10!

  • Best choral arrangement of this hymn.

If only Mormons knew the true meaning of Christ's blessing.

  • You should read the book "Believing Christ". Once you read it you will have an informed opinion on what mormons really believe.

  • LOL!

    You are cute!

    But we still love ya!

  • skchin:

Years ago a Sunday School teacher played this video for our class, just after it was released publicly. The Spirit descended deeply upon us all, and it was confirmed in our minds and hearts that Jesus Christ is the personal Savior of each one of us, though we are prone to wander. He is ever ready to seal our hearts His.

  • Mmmm....do you think that you really know what Mormon's believe the true meaning of Christ's blessing is?

  • Who are you asking and why?

  • This is not the place for such a question, just listen to the beautiful music, and ask somebody a lot more patient than me, after the song. You miss the whole reason for sharing.

  • yamaho5, I agree. I don't think this matters one way or the other. Anyway, it's not a "Mormon hymn," having been written in 1758 by Robert Robinson before preaching a sermon at Calvinist Methodist Chapel in Norfolk, England. That it inspires Mormons and other Christians is enough. Leave doctrinal discussions for other forums.

  • @isartam ;Excellent comment, and thanks for the info on the hymn. I didn't realize how close to home this hymn is to me.

  • A wonderful hymn beautifully performed. It must have been amazing to be a part of it. The girl at 5:40 is visibly moved.

  • this is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cannot bring myself to think of one irreverent thought while i hear this.

    wonderful (:

i don't care who you are....... you love it (:

  • Love this song.

  • I'm Anglican......this was quite beautifully done. My favourite hymn!

  • My broken heart and contrite spirit aches for him beyond any words that I could ever express. I need him, my eldest brother, for without him I am but nothing. Thank you, so much for this precious music. It has awakened my weary soul and rekindled the burning in my heart for my beloved Savior. I have felt so lost for so long. I pray that he will help me find my way again.

  • Did you use google translate? Let me try it. "I remember the first time that I saw this choir sing this song. I was at the Rosarito chapel. By my side was my companion, Elder Vigueras, and we were in the chapel to see the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Just a few days before I saw this, I found the music of this song in a book that my brother used during his mission which he had loaned to me. So this song has a very special place in my heart."

  • Very Powerful Hymn!

  • When Elder Bruce C. Hafen was a gospel doctrine teacher years ago, he played this video for our class one Sunday, just after it was released publicly. The Spirit descended deeply upon us all, and it was confirmed in our minds and hearts that Jesus Christ is the personal Savior of each one of us, though we are prone to wander. He is ever ready to seal our hearts His.

  • ahfclass:

If you mean that beautiful blonde gal near the end? I agree with you. The videographer did good to focus more on this sweet spirit. She and the whole performance touched my soul immensely too.

  • The girl at 5:10 gets me EVERY time. I weep right along with her, and I have seen this over and over again. I love the spontaneous, uncontainable applause at the end of the number.

  • I have seen this many times. Now I see what you mean, The other that effects me deeply is 1:47 , Take care.

  • Agreed! That image is very touching.

  • I agree 110%! I have never seen such an example of pure devotion and belief in what one is singing.

  • I've heard this song both live and in recordings at least 300 times over teh past 10 years. EVERY time I want to stand at the conclusion and just say "amen". Inspired Writer, musician, arranger, choir...all spanning a couple hundred years. So glad that all of them were/are here to use their talent to help us all feel His power, His majesty, His love for us and give us a desire to love Him and our fellow man.

  • I heard this arrangement right before my senior year of high school and thought it was breathtaking. This is definitley the most beautiful arrangement that I've come across of this song.

  • I heard this recording a few years ago, and it struck me as one of the most beatiful arrangements of ANY hymn, EVER. If, when that day comes, we should offer God an example of our musical praise to Him, this would be my first nominee. Kudos!

  • I absolutely love it when music can seem to pick me up and move me around physically, as this song has made me feel. The sound is beautiful and I feel it fits the mood. It's humble but extremely sincere. This song's certainly refreshing compared to all the other type of music that are around us now. I prefer music with quality, as this song shows.

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • Got right down to the Core of my Heart...elevated my Spirit...brought Peace and Comfort to my troubled Heart.....

  • This has been my favorite song for years and I first saw this video as a missionary and loved it. And I still gets chills when I watch it today. I believe it can touch anyone who listens to the lyrics and feels the love that is conveyed in the music.

  • This is a great hymn for all faiths. Katherine Patterson's book "Jacob Have I Loved" mentions this song. I love hearing many versions. BYU is so great with their music. I also heard versions sung at BYU-Idaho.

  • While serving as a full time missionary, I first saw and heard this recording. I openly wept. Never had a piece of music had such amazing force upon me. Thank you for sharing it. I relived the experience anew.

  • This is the mantis song I love it! pity its no longer in the green hymn book :D

  • Amazing, I love the lyrics especially.

"prone to wander lord I feel it, prone to leave the god I love" I mean who hasn't felt that way once in a while?

  • WOW

  • Hey, I'm a QUAKER, and I LOVE this song!

  • It was written in 1758 by Robert Robinson, and set to John Wyeth's tune "Nettleton" written in 1813. I believe it appeals to all of humanity who "wander from the fold of God" and are grateful that we have been rescued by the Savior, regardless of our religious affiliation. I am so grateful for the gifted Bro. Wilberg's brilliant arrangement of this song that has such power to touch our hearts.

  • My current therapeutic song.

Simply brilliant! Magestic yet gentle! Complex yet simple. An aggregate of soothing melody and triumphant orchestry!

Can't go a day without listening and singing this song at least thrice!

  • I love BYU and all their musical talent... :)

  • so crisp and peaceful. I love the hymns!

  • God Bless America and peace to His people on earth.

  • I had a bad day. I watched this. My spirit and faith were renewed. Thank You.

  • amazing good i love it thank you

  • very good brings a tear to my eyes

  • This is the best rendition of this wonderful hymn I've ever heard or seen. Thanks for sharing!

  • WOW!

  • To capture a tear in its journey unto Lord was almost as powerful as the heartfelt journey that I experienced listening to this song...by far and away this is the most enjoyable rendition of Come Thou Fount that I have ever been experienced...congrats to Mack Wilberg... the choir... and the orchestra, and to the cameraman who captured that lone tear in its journey to the heavens.

  • Its absolutely beautiful to watch her sing, and you're right, how beautiful and powerful that the camera man "happened" to be focused on her at that moment.

And the wonderful thing, is that she isn't the only one whose face and expression and commitment is stunning... there are several vocalists and musicians alike who have expressions of joy at performing this hymn... it makes me wish I could sing in a choir where people wanted to sing for the Lord with that much feeling.

  • unbelievable!!! Ive seen this many time and I never get tired of seeing over and over again. I bought concert over 10 yrs ago on VHS I will buy it again if it's available on CD. I've seen other versions, Morgan State, Las Vegas Philarmonic but this is still the best of all of since it conducted by the writer of this rendition, Mack Wilberg

  • I have this whole concert and this song is by far my most favourite hymn ever since Iheard this rendition. I have tried it in my ward choir and it was a good effort by this just hits me everytime i hear and see it. thanks for posting this on ytube. beautiful

  • praise the Lord!

  • He is My Lord.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • i really really like this song! our group sang this song during our fren's , nigel surmon n it everyone was like *silent*............very nice voice they hv! wif d expresions...wOooAaHhh!!

  • How awsome! That is one of the most powerful renditions I have seen.
