Hi Dynaverse,

Semple House is designed extensively for large earthquakes using both 2 very powerful concrete moment frames (1 curving in the front, and 1 in the back) and then steel throughout. As far as the recent earthquake, it was at the South Island (Wellington is at the Southern tip of the North Island). Reports I've heard so far is that the epicenter was in the ocean underground, and the Cities adjacent to the epicenter only had some things knocked off shelves, no real damage.
