The chords might be a little off in parts (as a thousand people have commented), but the vocals are spot on. At first I thought you'd spliced the original vocal track onto new music. A very talented singer tackling a difficult song to sing from one of the greats, good job!
@davidadametz i was joking. the fuss people seem to make seemed reason for me to make a sarcastic comment towards them, wasnt aimed at you at all. fantastic work by yourself. they are only jealous. those who can do etc
As someone earlier said, it surprised me that you nailed the most complex chords but one pretty simple chord is not accurate. But you did a really good job anyway!
From a producer (in music city usa-nashville) I am an absolute stickler and perfectionist about chords... And it seems like the only chords you missed were on the strings. Bass notes were right. Vocal harmonys incredible. Instrument replication via midi spectacular. I was very impressed. The intriguing thing about this cover is that you NAILED the most complex chords, which are in the bridge of the song. Very well done.
Whoever is talking about "wrong notes" can suck one. This song is badass. Adametz did this from scratch. Its like saying "you repainted starry night differently, the steeple is actually supposed to be a quarter of a centimeter higher than how you painted it. Nice try though."
Sorry, I didn't look at the back catalog of comments. If you had those chords right this would be a fantastic attempt. Covering Beach Boys vocals is near impossible, you did good work here though.
I'm just saying, it's the wrong notes. Not criticism, feedback. Tell ya what, give me a couple days and I'll put together my own version that you can criticize. Fair enough?
I made a cover of this song too if you want to check it out. The only midi I used was with the percussion and I used no pitch correction on the vocals. Your version is good but there is a little too much pitch correction on the vocals.
man, you're good, but I can't BELIEVE you missed that note. Especially since you're such a good singer who must have some ear for music. yikes. Otherwise good.
First off the critique. There's a chord change you missed right after the line "you never need to doubt it". Other than that this is a beautiful recording. It's obvious you worked hard on this. And you have lovely angelic sound to your voice on this. I give you a 9.9 out of 10! lol
I dont know why you are giving joeljack negative ratings on his comment. He is completely correct. The chord is wrong at "You never need to doubt it" and the mistake is repeated again. The rest of the song is virtually note perfect and I too would give this a 9.5 out of 10. But that chord is absolutely wrong.
Thanks for the backup. I think he sounds awesome. I couldn't do a recording of this and sound this good. But I know this song like the back of my hand and I knew I wasn't losing it when I heard the incorrect chord.
I'm a regular gigging musician and the band i play in do songs "our way", we don't replicate. I think your interpretation of the song is excelent, i also like how you have recorded and mixed it.
@fivestring I agree 100%! This is a very nice interpretation...I love the vocals and all...I think this is something he should be proud of! If people truly understood that music is not as easy as it seems, they would not be so critical of another person's art. Just my opinion.
@fivestring I agree 100%! This is a very nice interpretation...I love the vocals and all...I think this is something he should be proud of! If people truly understood that music is not as easy as it seems, they would not be so critical of another person's art. Just my opinion.
I guess my question regarding the whole 'wrong chord' is this:
Is it a wrong chord in a sense that it's 'sour'? Does it actually not even fit in the key at all? Or is it just not the same exact chord that the Beach Boys played?
I know this is just a cover, and my own take on the song, but if the chord still works in the sense that its all in the key, then I guess I'm fine with it.
Exactly, I myself like this version. It dosnt sound exactly like the Beach Boys played it, but this isnt the Beach Boys, it's played by someone else so it should have it's own sound. I think it fits very well, everyone else just feels like complaining, this is the internet after all and anything different is considered "stupid". Just keep it up!
In my opinion, the chord does not match the melody's notes. I've listened to that one chord for a long time (as hard as it is to listen to). You went up when you should have gone down I think. I can't listen to the whole thing with it like that. The rest is pretty good though.
For me personally this song has the sort of chord progression you generally would want to leave absolutely alone, because it's so perfect as it is. The chord you changed is actually supposed to be 2nd inversion tonic (a very 'Brian Wilson' sound which was apparently quite influential) and hearing B major there is extremely jarring especially if you aren't expecting it. That's the only reason I'd take issue with the change. Nice cover all the same.
It's too bad I don't have any band members to do more of this, because I'm left to do practically all of this on my own, which isn't too bad- I'm just not a professional musician of any sort.
I thought it was the real thing at first... Nice job with this!! I think I heard that wrong bass note too but who's perfect?? This is such a great song and you really did a great job with the vocal...the chords are tricky in this song...complex indeed!
The vocals are amazing, but the music sounds incredibly inorganic and canned. It's about as processed as a bologna. Sorry, but still a really really good vocal performance.
Well, all of the instrumentation was in fact processed. Unfortunately, I have no access or ability to play most of these instruments, so I had to create the sounds using MIDI instruments.
That's what I had figured. I dunno, MIDI sounds fine for arranging music or somthing, but not really presenting it. I hope you can access real instruments, or somthing a little more organic sounding. That combined with your voice will make an amazing cover.
I was thinking of doing that, but I didn't own it at the time.
The original instrumental would have been a good choice, but I really set out to do something that really challenged my abilities.
It was a lot of fun playing every instrument, and hearing which instruments were involved, and trying to mimic them, and I think all in all it was just a great experience.
Really nice. You have captured the essence of the song. Only 1 chord blatantly wrong as previously mentioned[You'll never need to doubt it] should be E and not B. I'm a major Beach Boys fan and like to do their songs myself too. Anyway, thanks for posting and most enjoyable. Cheers Davey.
ditto to all that, just make sure that you keep the bass playing the B underneath that E chord. And don't forget that it's used twice...once at "you'll never need" and again at "I'll make you so sure"
Brian's songs touch a place where the Beatles music never did. #1 & #2 albums of all time according to Rolling Stone: Sergeant Peppers & Pet sounds. Pet sounds touches the soul more than any Beatles album ever did. Sales don't always equal better. Touching the heart is what Brian accomplished more than any song writer ever did or ever will.
This song and others by the BB are heart warming and lovely. Excellent even. But because the 2007BeachBoy's heart was not touched by the Fab Four does not mean the Beatles' body of work did not touch the soul of millions of others. To say no song writer ever has eclipsed Brian, or EVER WILL, at touching the heart is silly. But the OPINION is noted.
Brian is the best songwriter the USA has ever seen. Paul & John were an English team. Brian did it all by himself. His music touched the heart deeper than the Beatles ever did. Just my opinion
Paul McCartney once said that this was the most beautiful song he had ever heard ! What a tribute to Brian Wilson ! You did a great job on the vocals and 99% of the music is super !
You have the right kind of voice for this song. I'm 18 and I play Piano and Guitar. I'm real into oldies like the Beatles, The Who, and other oldies. I've just recently started getting into the Beach Boys, and this is my favorite song by them. I'm in a band too, and I do the harmony parts to songs. What kind of recording system did you use to make this? I'm thinking of getting a recording system for my computer.
As far as the specifics, I wish I could remember. I remember we used a Layla Sound Card, and Cubase for the actual recording. I also had a simple MIDI keyboard which I used, and plug ins and instruments I had throught Cubase helped project the instrument I chose. As far as the microphone goes, I used a standard SM-57.
Cool. So does your band do this kind of music? It's so hard to find people these days who play this style of music. This kind of music is all I know. I really don't like most of the music that is popular these days.
I used Cubase for the recording program, and I ran my vocals through an SM-57 microphone. The sound card I used was called Layla, I believe. Most of the equipment belonged to someone else, so I'm trying to remember what I had used.
As for the instruments, I also used Cubase and basically had MIDI sounds played through a simple keyboard USB.
I just bought a recording system. How did you get your song to play on youtube? When I try to put it on youtube it says "process failure wrong format" What format did you use?
I exported the song to .mp3 format, then I brought it into iPhoto (Mac Application) and made a movie slideshow using various Beach Boys photos, and I included the .mp3 tune into it. If I remember right, the file was a quicktime .mov
I find myself coming back to hear it again and see if you've done any more. Please do some more David! I'll collaborate if you want to. C'mon man! This is GREAT stuff.
Yeah. The harmonies are ridiculous. There is so much going on. I would hear a single harmony and just be baffled as to how it belongs in there, but it does, hehe.
the chord at the "you never need to doubt it" and at "i'll make you so sure about it" parts are both E major chords. i think you're playing B major chords instead, which is cool since the bass is playing a B during the recording, but B is the 5th in an E major chord, so that's why you might think it was B major chord. but yeah, it's E, and everything else sounds dead on, for real. the vocals are especially good
Yeah, I'm sure the MIDI has plenty of error left and right. If I had more than 2-3 weeks to record this song, I would have made it perfect.
As far as the vocals go, the voice is my original voice. I doubled each vocal part and separated them for a stereo sound. I added a slight mix of reverb and delay to the voice as well.
That was excellent, I was expecting the typical flat cover version vocals, as this is a really hard song to sing, and you hit it really well. Great job
Wow! Your voice is really really good. I could point out what's wrong with this cover (and I think I will just for the fun of it) but the main thing in this cover is your voice.
Anyways as someone mentioned a few chords were wrong and it made the vocals go out of harmony so fix that. Also try to emulate less. I'm sure it would be even better if you sang it exactly like you would sing it (it's not bad to copy the original voice but it gives excitement to hear new things). How old are you btw?
Well, as for fixing it goes, it was sort of a one shot deal. My brother moved out, taking all of the recording gear and computer with him, and there went my project.
So if I ever go to see him hopefully sometime soon, I'll sneak onto his computer and fix those chords.
I should also probably look for a more valid, official source for my chords and tablature, just to make things sound most original.
What a voice!! Great cover. So you hit a few wrong chords...big deal. Easy enough to fix with midi. You should repost it with the chords fixed. You don't even really need a video..I'd listen if the screen was blank.
Love to hear the other song. Hey do you still have a microphone? I would love to work with you sometime and all you would really need is a half-way decent microphone and some headphones.
I think this is the most beautiful song ever! My husband & I weren't able to have a 'real' wedding but this is still 'our song'. You did a nice job with the pix.
That was stunningly well done. I would make a couple of chord tweaks at "You never need to doubt it" but the vocals were spot-bloody-on. Really makes me wish I could sing like you (or, as someone else said, Carl).
I used a simple MIDI keyboard, but I layered the instruments with a decent mix. I then began to add reverb/delay/and other various effects to the entire instrumental production to give it a little echo.

Well, not really. We played more rock/indie rock.
To get an idea, this is what we played:
w w w. myspace . c o m / conwaymusic
Then the vocalist and I made this music:
m y s p a c e .c o m / heroesandvilliansmusic

Thanks!

When I try to put it on youtube it says "process failure wrong format" What format did you use?
wwekane2468 4 years ago
I exported the song to .mp3 format, then I brought it into iPhoto (Mac Application) and made a movie slideshow using various Beach Boys photos, and I included the .mp3 tune into it. If I remember right, the file was a quicktime .mov
davidadametz 4 years ago
Well it sounded like all the harmonies were spot on. You should try to do a Beatle song. Also, did you use a home recording system to do this?
Pirates8888 4 years ago
Yeah. I was in an band with my brother, and we made demos and recordings of our songs, and I had some spare time to do this piece.
davidadametz 4 years ago
I find myself coming back to hear it again and see if you've done any more. Please do some more David! I'll collaborate if you want to. C'mon man! This is GREAT stuff.
doctorcastille 4 years ago
I actually did "And Your Dream Comes True". I have the .wav file, and I'll get it uploaded to YouTube soon.
davidadametz 4 years ago
3 weeks? Wow. Good job dude! No joke.
diversion77 4 years ago
I love the harmonies. It must have been tough learning all the harmonies for the middle part of the song.
Pirates8888 4 years ago
Yeah. The harmonies are ridiculous. There is so much going on. I would hear a single harmony and just be baffled as to how it belongs in there, but it does, hehe.

The voice is great. Perfect. But its the base line thats wrong in certain areas which keep this from being perfect. other then that, very nice.

Awesome job! Any pitch correction on the vox? They're perfect pitch! Cool stuff!

i dont care what the people say under me about some stuff being wrong i think its freakin great
phxsuns68 4 years ago
the chord at the "you never need to doubt it" and at "i'll make you so sure about it" parts are both E major chords. i think you're playing B major chords instead, which is cool since the bass is playing a B during the recording, but B is the 5th in an E major chord, so that's why you might think it was B major chord. but yeah, it's E, and everything else sounds dead on, for real. the vocals are especially good
mxpxgd44 4 years ago
You've got a good voice. Nice job even if the some of the chords are wrong.

With exception to the minor MIDI errors I think this is a great cover! Really nice work!
F1Fanatic 4 years ago
Hey, thanks for your comments!
Yeah, I'm sure the MIDI has plenty of error left and right. If I had more than 2-3 weeks to record this song, I would have made it perfect.
As far as the vocals go, the voice is my original voice. I doubled each vocal part and separated them for a stereo sound. I added a slight mix of reverb and delay to the voice as well.
davidadametz 4 years ago
Its great...the midi is wrong...both bass and what it seems to be the keyboard play the wrong chord.
The vocals are good. May I ask what did you do to make them sound so like the beach boys? any effect on them?
congrats!

Great job. And good pictures of the Boys. Truly a feel good song, taking me back to my youth and unbridled optimisim.
Cheers

That was excellent, I was expecting the typical flat cover version vocals, as this is a really hard song to sing, and you hit it really well. Great job
jimschepis 4 years ago
Mattii1234 4 years ago
Hey! Thanks for comments!
But thanks again!

Oh yeah, I'm 20.
davidadametz 4 years ago
What a voice!! Great cover. So you hit a few wrong chords...big deal. Easy enough to fix with midi. You should repost it with the chords fixed. You don't even really need a video..I'd listen if the screen was blank.
doctorcastille 4 years ago
Thanks so much!
Yeah, all of the Midi and recording equipment belonged to my brother. When he moved out a few months ago, he took it all with him.
I have done one more song, and I'll make a slideshow of it soon.
davidadametz 4 years ago
Love to hear the other song. Hey do you still have a microphone? I would love to work with you sometime and all you would really need is a half-way decent microphone and some headphones.
doctorcastille 4 years ago
Yeah, I'm going to talk to my brother pretty soon. Maybe he can lend me some of his equipment.

Hey nice voice. Try with cotton fields =)

If the Beach Boys ever need a new Lead, they must call you. Great video footage of The Boys back in the day!

Great voice...Sounds almost like the original
Gmartin40 4 years ago
some of the chords sound a little flat and wrong, but your voice is just..wonderful. 4/5
Vinelihbe 4 years ago
Well none of the instruments were acoustic, so I'm not sure how they would be flat.
But wrong chords I'm getting left and right, and I guess that is what I get for reading off an un-official chord site.
But thanks for the comments! =)

Awesome job...Great vocals...Probably one of the greatest songs ever written and recorded. You did it great justice. Thank You...

I think this is the most beautiful song ever! My husband & I weren't able to have a 'real' wedding but this is still 'our song'. You did a nice job with the pix.
nancanne 4 years ago
That was stunningly well done. I would make a couple of chord tweaks at "You never need to doubt it" but the vocals were spot-bloody-on. Really makes me wish I could sing like you (or, as someone else said, Carl).
explodingnipple 4 years ago
you sound just like carl
hwlsimon 4 years ago
WOW that was so good! how did u get the instrumentation to sound so good?
ninjasmu 4 years ago
I used a simple MIDI keyboard, but I layered the instruments with a decent mix. I then began to add reverb/delay/and other various effects to the entire instrumental production to give it a little echo.
davidadametz 4 years ago
Yeah, it's great!!
very good voice.
Any of the chords are wrong but the voice is awesome.
