in Hartford, Sammy was no where to bee seen until he came out with the words "HIGHER and HIGHER" and the lights turned on him and he was up in the rafters near the ceiling above the crowd.....It was a great moment.
I've heard mixed about this tour. Some said it was amazing, others said it was terrible. This vid seems pretty good, though Sammy's voice is strained and he looks kinda bad/outta shape. But I notice Eddie's kind of off doing his own thing during this song while Sammy and Mikey play to the crowd and stuff. Some of the guitar seemed off too. But this was pretty good. It's just a shame to see such a good band fall apart and destruct the way it has.
@TWB141 2004 was supposed to be a good year for VH, it was supposed to be not only a comeback but The Return of the Mighty Van Halen. They tried to make it look like everything was hunky-dory and peachy keen, but in all actuality the reunion with Sammy reopened old wounds. Ed and Mike couldn't stand each other, Sammy as much as I love him, sang weakly and looked horrible, didn't even play guitar and of course Eddie just couldn't put the bottle down....
Saddest days on stage for Van Hallen were in deed the 2004 tour...After reading some exerts from Sammy's book and watching the videos during this time it's clear Eddie was into something that teader his tallent.
Most normal humans under the control of the demons would have surcomd to it and maybe died but Eddy's chase didn't end like that not before costing him his wife, many many friends, and a boat load of equipment.
I truthfully hope he cleans up before it takes his tallent away.
Nice performance, although Eddie was drunk during most of the tour and he has his back turned on the audience, he plays pretty well for a drunk guitarist, worst case scenario eddie loses grip of the guitar and goes ape-shit. Keep rockin' VH! :)
Wait when exactly did sammy leave the band? either way idc. and guys. Eddie had really bad Stage fright. Drinking got that feeling away. So thats part of the reason why he drank so heavily. plus the lifestyle he lead didnt help that much either.
you can totally tell Sammy and Ed despised each other during this tour, Sammy notes in his book that he tried to stay away from Eddie when this tour was going on, he and Anthony were the only ones who really got along
If you are a Van Halen fan you have to read Sammy Haggar's story in Rolling Stone this month. It's pretty shocking to read. I hope that Eddie is healthier now. He was living in filth with Valerie Bertinelli even. And he is in total denial about his cancer. he lost 1/3 of his tongue from it and thinks his smoking had nothing to do with it and continued to smoke.
This sounds like shit. WHo the hell is playing keyboards? A tape? And I know Eddie is supposed to be the fuck up but Sammy looks like a fat fuck here and he is way out of tune!
@kingofallwhites I saw the Hartford show (which was more than a month prior to this one) and yeah, the sound was spotty, like they barely rehearsed. Sammy was spot-on during this song though, and most of the show. Eddie actually was too, he fucked up a few songs but it wasn't a total train wreck. Probably by this point in the tour the relations had broken down enough that Sammy didn't give a shit anymore.
I saw this tour in Las Vegas & Eddie kept his back to the audience for the majority. Was obvious he and Sammy were not getting along either. Was a very poor performance from the greatest guitarist ever. Luckily 2007/08 made up for it.
i don't think a lot of people think about how much older sammy is than the van halen brothers he's 8 years older than eddie. he is now 63 so he was in his late 50's here. he was rocking well before his days with van halen after almost 40 years of touring his voice was bound to lose some range. but a lot of this does have to do with the fact that his heart wasn't really in this tour.
I love Ed's tone on this tour, its just a shame about his playing though, sammy is really struggling in the chorus of this. I love Dave, Sammy and Gary singing in the band but hey Van Halen is all about Eddie and Alex .. not michael anthony ok people?!! get your heads out of your arses and just enjoy it!!!
why wld u want to watch a 60 yr old fat guy , who dresses like the Dude do an arobics routine on stage , while a drunk plays guitar n has a hard time standing up , this is just plain pathetic
It was well known that Eddie was drunk alot on this 2004 tour. Besides the VHIII lp with Gary Cherone, this is another very bad moment in VH history.
I like both the DLR and Hagar era's. But got to say that live, VH was far better with Sammy. All tours with Sammy sounded great(except this tour/vid)....the F.U.C.K and Balance tours sounded awesome.
Sorry DLR, your studio lp's with VH were great and will always be classiv but I have no time for your BS showman antics on stage with VH.
na hes great live this current tour he madeu feel like u were apart of vh but yea eddie was messed up becuase of his mothers death and his divorce but he got better
@TheMature57 DLR blows compared to Sammy. He sings show tunes not rock songs like Sammy. All he sings about is banging and ice cream. I think this Van Hagar is more mature musically than they were with David Glee Roth
I think Eddie is not play well on any tour from 2003 and up...Why cant he play the same as the way the song goes??He is one of my guitar heros but he is trying to mutch on new stuff on stage...or he is bored to death;)
i know eddie was wasted all the time but he fucks up less when hes wasted then when hes sober i wish i cudve seen VH on this tour eddie has a better tone here too his tone now really really sucks
yeah this is vh at the worst i ever heard them,i liked them with gary,i thought one more album with gary would of been cool,i thought it was a slap in the face to take gary away after 1 cd
Hate to burst your bubble Kickstart25...but there was very little that was live on that 07/08 tour. From the clips I've seen...Dave is a shell of what he used to be. AT least Sammy can sing and is making and effort out there and not going through the motions.
u say Flo Rida i say OZZY u say miley cyrus i say Def Leppard u say katy perry i say Van Halen u say high school musical i say Metalica u say rap i say crap u say hip hop i say scorpions u say kanye west i say motley crue u say T. Pain i say led zepplen u say Akon i say dumb 94% of kids prefer rap or pop. if youre one of the awesome 6% that still loves to headbang copy and paste this to three pure rock videos. THE SPIRIT OF ROCK LIVES Long live the classics
i think your right in most of what u say, but remember rap is also a culture and it has great music and poetry. Rap doesn't mean cheap beats and poor rhyms, becouse thats what most of the people unfortunatly buy.
Safe to say, each member of this band has definately moved on to better things since this tour. I don't think DLR has a great voice anymore, but at least Ed's on form. Same goes for Sammy. His voice is so much better now, obviously gave up smoking, drinking, or shouting. Who knows.
Shame, because Fresno usually got some of the best performances of the tours. Must've been a disapointment to see this. Compare this to their show in Toronto in '95 and there is no contest.
1973kissconcerts2008, Unfortunately I did the exact same thing too man! This 04 Tour was painful to watch and listen to! Sammy sounded awful and Eddie was sloppy drunk and missing notes all night....this clip is total proof! The 07/08 Tour with Roth blew this tour away man!
It's good to see Eddie sober again, am I right?
