It MAY be art but I don't like seeing those venerable 'pieces of art' treated that way--it just makes me sad. How about taking them down and donating them to a charity...
@CATniteOwl It's a little controversial, but all of those trailers were wrecks found in scrapyards. The backsides are in bad shape. If Bates hadn't used them for this purpose they likely would've been scrapped for metal and parts.
@walkaboutgroup I'm feeling dumb for having made this comment - I guess I just let my sadness of thinking about any A/S 'dying' get the best of me. After a 2nd look I wish I had instead asked HOW DID HE DO THAT?! Anchoring them that way seems like quite a feat! Soooo, I hope he gets to keep them up.
@CATniteOwl No worries. You are not alone in your first impression -- some other Airstreamers were offended at the concept and felt it was disrespectful. We don't really show it in the video, but the backs of those trailers are beaten up. Most of them had been wrecked and almost certainly would've been destroyed. Viewed in this light, it seems a lot more understandable. Cheers!
The tour we took was on a golf cart. We had to wait for Bates worker to take the metal gate off the hinges before we could even enter the premise. (So embarrassing) . The grounds were grown up in tall grass and weeds. There was no manicure at all. I understand the officials want the Airstreams removed and call it junk. I completely understand. The way the Airstreams are displayed and displayed in an overgrown, non kept field does not speak well of the Airstreams or of Mr. Bates.

I don't like it. But that doesn't mean it's not art. So it has my vote.

The controversy rages!
Hype? No doubt.
A big fat lie? LOL, there's no CGI in the video.
We shot this video in spring '08. I didn't go there expecting the Louvre. As the saying goes, it is what it is... ;-)

A bunch of hype about nothing at all. The place is ridiculous. The video is so hyped it may be considered a big fat lie.
