  • SAD! It looks so beautiful! I wish they were still flying today!

  • i fucking hate people that clap on landing.

  • @ford9572, Watch your language pal!!! You LOVE the BUZZSAW sound of the RR RB-211s on the L-1011s Don't you!, British engines and instruments are MUCH better than you think!! Delta NEVER repowered any of their L-1011s with Pratt & Whitney engines, Not only does the RB-211 SOUND great, It's also quite reliable!!! So, Watch what you say about British machinery Dumb Jackass!!!

  • @jonnybee48 No it wouldn't have!!!! British engines & instrumentation are nothing but COMPLETE, WORTHLESS, FUCKING JUNK!!? You Dumb-Ass Limey Faggot!!!! There's NEVER been a British engine or instrument that I've ever loved!!!! Only foreign engine I like is German!!!! But AMERICAN ENGINES AND INSTRUMENTS FUCKING KICKASS!!! YEE-HAA!!!

  • "Farewell, 727, and we thank you."

  • It's a bloody shame that such a versatile bird should be pensioned off because of progress in other areas, namely engine technology and avionics. The basic configuration of the '27 was sound in many ways; however with some re-engineering it could have been a lot better and cornered the short-haul market AND the transatlantic routes that the Airbus 319/320 has been so successful in doing. British engines and instrumentation would have made SO much difference!

  • Nice video, it almost brought tears to my eyes. But fail you skipped the rotation.

I wish i could be on a similar last flight fx Delta's DC-9-50s but that will be hard since i live in Denmark!

  • @ATITANIC1992 - Yeah was trying to take photos and video at the same time, so I edited out that mess.

  • 4:37 WTF? xD

  • I remember flying on the Boeing 727 (Continental I believe it was) from Newark, NJ to DFW years ago. I miss those old planes!

  • THAT AWKWARD MOMENT WHEN YOU REALIZE YOUR THE ONLY ONE CLAPPING and then you stop haha

  • thanks for sharing

  • Years ago, we got diverted on a cross country flight and landed at Boeing Field due to weather at the destination airport. We had to de-plane using the built-in stairway in the tail of the 727. The stairway area was painted green, you could see the hydraulic lines. As we left the plane, I remember looking back over the fuselage and thinking, WOW, we just crossed the entire country in that machine... A moment to remember. Not like the sterile leaving of an airplane through a standard "jetway".

  • I've never been on a 727

  • A very soft Landing :D thank you for uploading this vid.

  • My first ride was on the 727 with Eastern, can still remember climbing those steps in my best clothes(back then flying was an event)...and then looking at the tail as I entered the cabin, and seeing the word WHISPERJET emblazened on the the housing for the 3rd engine...14 years old, scared to death and about to embark on a great adventure by myself...and it was...it was spectacular...the 727 will always be alive with those of us that remember.

  • The Boeing 727's engines sound like the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series' and MD-90's engines.

  • @crichey1000 They probably are the same since the MD-80 and MD-90's are very closely related to the 727.

  • What do you mean? Even if the Boeing 727's engines sound the same of the engines of the MD-80 and the MD-90s, my dad thinks the Boeing 727s are too noisy to fly for domestic airlines for the reason for retirement.

  • I've only been on the Boeing 727-200 for my favorite domestic airline, United Airlines, which was on a flight from San Francisco to Denver probably in the summer of 2001 when I was 5 years old and I liked (loved) the sound it made.

  • So is this the plane that has the stairs built into the back? I think that getting to climb into the plane rather than just being herded through the jetway is more fun. :P

  • My first ride was a UA 727 from TUL to ORD then 737 200 to RIC. My last 727 ride was from JFK-DFW Sat in the back by the galley. What a bird. A bunch of 727 rides in between.

  • I probably would have cried when I got off that plane...my second flight was in a TWA 727. My first flight was in a TWA DC-9 earlier that morning...this was in 1999, I was only 5 at the time so my memory is fading...I know I'll never forget the 727!

  • Thanks for posting!!

  • First flight I ever took was in 1985 (I was in Jr High)... to Denver, Co from D/FW. Even though my dad was a pilot, and I flew with him all the time, I was still nervous. But, my dad preached that the 727 was the best plane in the air with the best safety record (At the time).

Anyway, I was a little nervous.. but once I sat down and read "727" on the window visor, I instantly relaxed. Just something about that plane made me relax. One of my favs.

  • wish i could have been on this flight

  • The Boeing 727 was my dream to fly when I was a kid. I will alwys remain a 727 loyalist. Boeing needs to bring this fantasic work horse back.

  • @jrc99us Old techonology, they retired it for a reason.

  • Thanks for posting this video. Very, very cool. The 727 was and is a great aircraft.

  • I feel like a little bit of of the magic in aviation died. Oh well, at least we have many great videos, such as the one you have shared, to enjoy. =)

  • The 727 was awesome

  • Did this flight originate in GSO?

  • @stitch16261 Yes.

  • that's all in the past. idk why so many people are in love with this aiplane? aren't you guys excited for all the new technology out there? I'm not saying i hate or dislike the 727, just idk why all of you guys are so excited about it

  • @654321825 Oh man.. we love classic birds, because they require the true skills of a pilot, now, in 2011 you can fly almost any airplane by just giving him the data he needs to fly, just input the altitude, route data, weights and that kind of things and you are ready to fly by pushing the AP engage button, in the early 80s pilots flew IFR almost everyday... using ALL the instruments and gauges, and of course..you cant compare the sound of a 80s Pratt & Whitney to the new generation engines..

  • perfect

  • The 727 is a beautiful airplane, I travel a lot and have flown on pretty much most modern jets many times. Before I moved to the USA for good, I used to love coming over on business because a lot of connecting flights still used the 727 back then. Like all T-tails, it's a bit noisy right at the back, but just behind the wing - nothing like it, it's true flying and an airplane I had some of my best flights ever on, and still one of the most beautiful wing desgins ever made.

  • Thanks for the memories. Did a lot of flying on 727's in the 80's. I always tried to get a seat behind the wing so I could watch those big Fowler flaps go up and down.

  • boeing needs to make a 727-300 same config. but a 2 man crew instead of 3 man crew

  • My late father was a 727 Capt with Delta, 29yrs service, and he flat out loved this bird. What a great video and the Capt "Greased" that landing..How fitting to have that be done on her last flight. Thank you for sharing, brings back many memories listening to him answer my questions about his landings when I was growing up.

  • @pkrippa - Your welcome :)

  • @Dazed767 It was a "Dirty Bird" when on final...more shiaat hanging of it's wing, then the speed brakes at main gear contact...Dad flew the C-7 in Nam..Have to love the Full Flaps on takoff and landings...Just Nasty

  • Royal Nepal Airlines first ever jet was a Boeing 727 then 757s, but the airline could never prosper

  • Royal Nepal Airlines first ever jet was a Boeing 727 then 757s, but the airline could never prosper due to corruption and never settling dirty bahun politics

  • Oh Lord....I remember the sounds sitting next to those engines. Your ears would ring for a week after. It took forever to take off and land but well worth the ride :)

  • @Davidlp70 Sometimes flight attendants on lightly-loaded 727s would invite passengers seated toward the rear of the plane to move forward, away from all that racket. I'm glad I got to ride on a United 727 not long before UAL parked theirs.

  • Fantastic video, a piece of history. Thank you.

  • @deetjay... the 737-800.

  • Bring the 727 back Delta! You don't know what you got rid of! The 727 was the BEST airplane Boeing ever built. Good Good video.

  • What replaced the 727 at Delta?

  • Comment removed

  • @thecravenator42069 - '97 (ron allen) livery.

  • at 4:39 one guy just got so happy 'cause it is made to the ground

  • why are they not sell these plaine on the ebay?

  • @marshalllucky There was a ex-blue angel F-18A for sale on eBay. An it's spelled plane not plaine.

  • @yoyoyoyoshua my aunt, she is very sick ;-(

  • @marshalllucky I'm sorry hope she feels better soon.

  • its kinda sad knowing that after those people get off that plane is going to the graveyard and its going to be gutted and ripped apart.

  • Thanks, Bud! Had almost forgotten the sounds of a JT8-D spooling up. B727 will always be my favorite aircraft.

  • watch my tribute video of Boeing 727 Recommended for fans of the beautiful BOEING_727

  • i bet the captain was happy that the last flight for this plane was that smooth :)

  • who's the dumbass who screams and claps at 4:43? lol

  • @Julman75 haha ;-)

  • ,,,,,,,,,,,and rotate............I said rotate..........oh never mind just cut to 500 ft! I love these old planes, flew many, charm throughout, you could really feel the plane, nowadays its up in 2 secs, tray table down, blinds down, tray tables up, blinds up.....No class¬!

  • @Matt22964 - Yeah sorry, was taking photos and trying to do video, I edited out a few seconds. :(

  • @Dazed767 I was joking about the general rate of ascent these old planes had/have compared to some now, I was thinking you just got bored had a cup of coffee and then came back once he had got to 500ft! lol Nice vid, a bit of history..I remember many moons ago sitting in the cockpit of a DC10 on work exp at Gatwick Airport UK,happy memories! Now I sit on all kinds flying around the Middle East, my girlfriend is a purser - I always wondered when crew vanish, they are sleeping below or above us..!

  • I am very happy for the B727's departure from Delta. I disliked that plane.

  • Alas, she's been scrapped. Always flew under the original Western Airlines registration N283WA. Delivered in 1978.

  • That was a really smooth landing! Well flown sirs

  • I have flown on MANY Delta 727s, MD11s, DC9s, DC8s, a DC7 once, L1011s and even a CV340. I have nearly a million miles on Delta.

  • oh my god listen to those engines...727 engine sounds were a huge part of what really got me into aviation as a kid...I remember being so excited and listening to those engines do their thing on a flight to see my grandparents in florida...I'll always miss the 727

  • Thanks so much dude for recording this historic flight. Nothing compares to the unique 727 experience! (sounds, feel, etc, smell...like coffee)

  • Western Airlines plane by the tail number.

  • Dad flew these. He took me on flights with him and I often sat in the jump-seat in the cockpit. He used to let me fly it! If you see a kid go into the cockpit with his dad, know that at some point the kid will be flying. Sometimes, he'd get on the PA and say "Well, We're a full flight today, so when I count to three, everybody lift your feet!" We'd roll down the runway, picking up speed, and he'd count and we'd lift our feet just as we took off. We'd all clap. God, flying used to be fun....

  • R.I.P the Beoing 727 it will be missed :'(

  • I have to say that i've flown the Boeing 727-200 alot! Piedmont, Eastern, Delta, United, American, Kiwi International, Continental...My last 727-200 flight was on Delta...from Atlanta to Baltimore...but i have flown then alot between Atlanta and Greensboro...and alot of Piedmont 727's from Asheville to Greensboro (Piedmont flight #58 340p-418p)...Those were the days!!! and i miss this aircraft alot!

  • as a kid i flew on one to miami and will never forget the power of the takeoff

  • People might hate me for this but I think the Boeing 727 is better then the DC-9

  • @RickMakesGoodVideos I agree

  • @RickMakesGoodVideos You better believe it was!!!! That cramped DC-9 STRAW!!

  • God Bless the one person who clapped and shouted. Everyone else is just a killjoy.

  • @the727experience I agree I use to fly this bird many times! She was a beauty. Most people don't even know what type of plane their Flying. There were some real dead beat's on this last flight of this work-horse!!

  • `i wish if they would have up graded B727 just like the did w/B37 and,i wish if they would have up graded my favorite plane the L10 11 just like they up graded the DC 10 2 M<D 11 that is not fair!

  • beautiful sound

  • WoW just wow...

  • I remember flying on a Delta 727 and also the L1011, I loved both planes.

  • Wow ¡¡ Very smooth landing and nice airplane ;)

  • @compdude100 That's because it's powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D Low-Bypass Ratio turbofan engines, Low-Bypass Ratio turbofan engines are always louder than High-Bypass Ratio turbofan engines even at idle speed.

  • passengers, feel free to steal the safety cards and life vests!

  • @Compdude100 Yep!!! 727s WERE pretty noisy planes!!! But they were quieter than the Concorde was at supersonic speed!!!

  • I work on the ramp at the Atlanta airport and only see 727 cargo planes, never passenger unless its some start up airline that comes & gos like Hooters airline.

  • wait. at 3:26, r those curtains? no planes made today hav curtains! that must be an old-ass plane! even for a 727!

  • 1:12 Now theres something you don't see now a days,,, free blankets... now is like blankets $10.00....

  • I'd been on a Delta Boeing 737-200 before. Thats an old Boeing model too and they retired their fleet in 2006.

  • i like when the passengers shout "hooooo". So american.....

  • wow it's loud even when its taxiing!

  • @compdude100 He's sitting right next to the engine.

  • GREAT LANDING by the pilots and an awesome farewell my dad flew those planes over 100 times for british airways i got a free flight to chicago on them thing awesome machine i got to push the thrust levers up and listen to those puppys roar

miss that plane and the dc-10 glad theres 1 tri jet there md-11

  • I love the 727's engine sound spooling down some just before touch down, and then guns back up just after touch down for the thrust reverse.

  • I generally miss the good old 3 hole aircrafts. 727, L 1011 Tristar, DC 10/MD 11... They all had a great sound, were fast and beautiful ! Good bye 727 ! Maybe you´ll have a second life in Africa....

  • Wow!!! Great Video, Justin!!!

  • Only one clap

  • if i ever start an airline this is my fleet:

    Boeing 727

    Boeing 707

    Boeing 747-100

    L-1011

    Dc-9

    Dc-10

    md-11

    Boeing 737 classic

  • 11 people don't have a sense of originality

  • @gobuzzrobotics Those 11 people are 'chemtrail' activists getting back at me for telling them they're just 'contrails'.

  • @Dazed767 wqe call them chemtards= people who believe in "chemtrails"

  • @Dazed767 Dude! They are definitely chemicals! The airlines ALWAYS mix chemicals in with their expensive Jet-A just so that they can poison us!

    (or so the "truthers" say)

  • @Dazed767 god i hate chemtrails and all other CTs....love avation though

  • damn you got a good seat

  • I love this plane!

  • only missin' the days we used to be allowed to smoke airborne... tsk tsk ! shame today off the good old days!

  • @s6xer oh and the airplanes' jet engines used to be allowed to smoke as well! ha ha ha

  • And she's just gonna end up in one of thpse airplane graveyards with hundreds of other 727s.

  • probably flying right now at Fedex or other cargo companies world wide

  • @DaViD46000 lol i agree... i hate when stupid fuckin people clap when the plane lands, as if they were expecting to crash? wtf??? people are fucking stupid

  • @Mantis400

Back in the day, passengers clapped as a sign of respect and to compliment the pilots and crew for a safe journey. OBVIOUSLY something that's missing from today's travelers.

  • @JimT1975 --Absolutely correct. Nowadays, any slob can fly. It's like a ghetto taxi in the sky. My parents would make me wear nice clothes or a shirt & tie when I was a kid in the 60's/70's and flew. BRING THOSE DAYS BACK!

  • @Mantis400 -- I presume you are less than 20 year of age? It's a sign of respect.

  • lol one single guy clapping, how embarassing must that be :D

  • Great video,Justin. I too flew on a DL 727 March 7th,2003 ROC-ATL-ROC just to get on one. Flew down on N8890Z (wavy gravy) and back on N523DL (I think)(Ron Allen colors).

  • While these aircraft (727s, DC-9s, MD80s) are being phased out in developed countries, they're finding new homes in developing ones; Venezuela etc.

  • Why does Delta Airlines always inform the passengers of where their flight attendants are based?

  • A beautiful bird like this, sitting in the desert .. what a waste : (

  • It's all fun and games till' the plane crashes.

  • They made it's last run right I wish they still kept them for a little bit longer

  • "This aircraft is supposed to be flown to the mojave desert the day after tomorrow for retirement"

  • I fly Delta regularly, and my last B727 flight on Delta was March 2001. Couldn't stand the 727 and I am glad to see it go.

  • @wr1830 Your a dumbass.. It was one of the best commercial airliners.

  • wow ,i didnt even notes that they landed, great video

  • Maybe not ironic but funny that at the end, it's the 757, the 727's replacement, that it passes.

  • @wildlemon747 I'm pretty sure that was a 767, it's hard to tell because of the camera-work.

  • @scaremenga nope to me it looked like a 757.

  • @compdude100 .....A 757? Dude, the camera person is sitting behind the wing. At the 4:00 minute mark, what do you think is stuck on the side of the fuselage just outside their window? Last time I checked, a 757 didn't have any engines stuck on the side of the fuselage.

  • The aircraft wasn't being sent to the Mojave desert because it was unworthy for flight, it had just become less cost effective to operate than the newer generation(s) of aircraft.

  • Surprised they didn't haul you off and waterboard you.

  • @MillBelater - Why?

  • Camera on an airplane? TSA will think you're a "turrorist".

  • @Dazed767 Airforce pilots do it.

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting it. Loved the welcome by the crash fire trucks. The 727 with its rear mounted engines, T tail and swept clean wings has to be the best looking commercial jet transport ever made.

  • Which airport is the first one?

  • @vroomba03 GSO - Greensboro, NC.

  • pity cause it was a great plane!!!!

  • I traveled a hundred times on board the B727. and where you're seated, it was my favorite place.

  • I wish you could "love" a video...

  • This plane was delivered to Delta July 13th 1978

  • Was that swedish I heard?

  • Great vid; I did many, many flights on the old 727. Miss the sound of those old JT8D's winding up on takeoff. The 727 had a smooth ride and great lines. Those were good times...

  • @CaptCrash66 ik they have a great startup sound, holds my second place for favorite sounding jet engine! the GE90 on the 777-300ER holds first place...

  • Happy retirement to the 727.

  • Thanks so much for posting. The 727 was my favorite airliner, and you were sitting in my favorite seat... hearing the 'grinding' at TO power, the 'beating' of the 3 big JTs (or RRs) as they ran in almost, but not quite perfect sync, and the hollow drone as they spooled down to idle. It was even humid enough for you to catch the vapor vortices that circulate between the engine nacelle and the fuselage. My last ever ride on a 727 ended when it blew a hydraulic line on the way to the runway.

  • The first airplane trip I ever took was in a PSA 727 from San Diego to Sacramento (with a stop in L.A. along the way). That was in 1969; however, my last ride in a 727 was on this route with Delta from Atlanta to Greensboro and back in December 2002. The thunder of the trijet from behind the passenger section brought all those old memories back!

  • love the sounds of those JT8Ds

  • the 727 was replaced by the MD-80 which is now being repaced by the 737 which sucks eggs...i miss the clasics..least we hace the S80 around alil longer

  • well B757 replaced the B727 and,B767 for B 707 s!

  • what a beautiful sound

  • My mom flew on Northeast 727s in the late '60s and early '70s and said they were wonderful. I've never had a chance to fly on one. Thanks for capturing this historic moment.

  • @maineboy1979 me neither :(

  • I dont know if any of u heard this but its going to the Muhabi desert the day after 2marrow is what the captain said. Idk y but i treat planes as if they are alive in living, I think its mean to do that to airplanes. At lease put them in museums!!!

  • Yeah it was the mojave desert (MHV) in CA. A lot of their L-1011's are out there too.

  • Ummm...Isn't it scary to be on the last flight of a plane deemed "not worthy for servise anymore"????

I flew on Eastern Airlines for 5 years. After they went bankrupt, their fleet was sent to scrap because the FAA wouldn't even allow it to be sold off as used parts....

    Think about it.....

  • @CSXer - If it wasn't deemed 'worthy for service' it wouldn't have flown that day, think about it.

Also all the Eastern fleet didn't end up scrapped. Some of the 727's ended up with DHL, Delta, USAir, Capital Cargo, Miami Air, Kiwi, Mexicana. Some L10's went to Delta. Some 757's ended up over at America West, USAir, etc etc.

  • @Dazed767 america west and usair are one company F.Y.I =)

  • @Lworld63 Well before the merger...

  • @Dazed767 It would be hilarious if it crashed. Well, not for you at least.

  • @CSXer if its not worthy for service than why do many airlines such as fedex and DHL still use them? enough said.....

  • @CSXer The reason it was deemed "not worthy for service" was because of economic issues. The 727s were muscle cars compared to the newer birds...loud, gorgeous, and fuel-guzzlers. Most of Delta's 727 airframes still had several thousand takeoff/landing cycles left in them.

  • how sad im gonna miss that plane

  • this was so sad...my very first flight was on a continental 727 in 1978...great plane, even greater sound...planes of today can't compare!

  • Those things howled like a banshee

  • Man i remember how loud the 727 was.

  • @cesar333 people thought it was loud way back in the late 60s

  • In the 70s I flew on Eastern 727s to Bermuda. I miss the soound of those engines. Beautiful Video.
