  • this is like one of the most important things and is rarely touched on and its going to help me so much everything he said made so much sense to me and could be directly related to my swing

  • The pimp slap technique has been very helpful to my driving game. Thanks!

  • your the best

  • I understand.....Where do you live? Can you send me your video of your golf swing. Down the line and Face on? I'll do it for nothing!! I just want to see you improve. I am a golf instructor myself here in Orlando, FL. In the defense of teachers, YOU may think it's someones opinion, but for the most part they are all saying the same thing just in a different way. You need to have the right message for you.

  • I agree with what he's saying here. It seems that the roll release helps develop lag more than the slap release. It also seems the roll release slightly Delofts the club. Jeff, would you agree with this?

  • this video should just start at 2:23

  • You can not ever feel like you are releasing club with you hands and arms. That is crazy

  • JRitter, i have the same feel going through with the 'slap' and 'rolling' release...are these similar in feel? or can you elaborate on the differences of these two releases? thank you!

  • I like the slap release thing Jeff, but your ball flight laws are off. Club face is direction path is spin.

  • What I hate about ME & MY habits of a 2nd year golfer is..I hear these tips like the "Roll-over" golf swing for the slicer & I WON'T try it throughout the first 9 holes because you're suppose to practice ONLY ON RANGE right...lol..Well, I get out there and I get to playing, and by the 10 or 11th hole IF I'm not playing well, I start changing technique randomly! And, usually a COUPLE things at once! Then I get even worse! lol...Boy, this game of golf isn't as easy as it looked on tv. ((O_o))

  • @ThatFellazZz......Stop looking at videos and reading magazines! Go to an instructor that has some video and can tell you what you do right and wrong and give you the information or recipe that fixes YOUR swing....not that of the masses. There is 100 different ways to cure a slice. Doesn't mean you should try them all. Find what works for you and why and you will start improving much faster.

  • @jruleiv1 Magazines & video's are the blue collar way. I can't afford to pay for some guy to record my swing & give an OPINION. Every instructor you go to will have a different fix, & a different opinion. In MY opinion the best thing you can do is steady working at it & keep HAVING FUN. If your not having fun your in the wrong place. The problem with golf is everyone thinks they have to be as good as the pro's. When really, enjoying yourself is the goal. After all, IT IS A GAME IS IT NOT?

  • I think this is what my problem may very well be in my golf swing. I feel my hips dont clear in time and i become flippy through impact which in turn make me feel very inconsistant and frustrated. Take a look at my golf swing guys and tell me if you agree. thanks.

  • I'm no pro but, isn't "blocking" a recipe for the dreaded chicken wing? I think that most pros use the "roll" release. IMO.

  • You left out the correct way releasing the club

  • The slap release is what I prefer using when the wife brings me cold coffee in the morning. Have a great day guys!

  • shut the fuck up pecky... this guy makes 100's of thousands of dollars teaching golf..

  • I'm a little unclear on the slap release. How is this executed without significant breakdown of the left elbow (chicken wing) and possibly loss of a flat left wrist at impact as well? Would love to see a slow mo clip of an actual swing using this technique. Thanks!

  • Slap = angleled hinging, or bordering vertical. Using TGM terms. This is what you should use. Forget the roll (horizontal release).

  • This is an EXCELLENT instructional video... IMHO.... These three releases are exactly what I seen in many many years of golf.... I really just never articulated in the same way as Mr. Ritter has done... and done so artfully. Also, I was a "block release" golfer for many years and switched to the "slap" realease to gain more distance... compensating for my age...

    Thanks for making this video...

  • Mr. Ritter, you rock. You keep this up and you might raise the bar in golf instruction.

  • is it necessary to support your RIGHT FOOT with the tip-toe after hitting the ball? For me instead, I find it "natural" to bend the toes.

  • All the greats used the slap-hinge. All of them. Period.

  • Thanks Jeff

  • great video, nice to see you explained 'ALL OF THE RELEASES. So many teachers think there is one magic way to release the club. I am a very strong face player and play a block release even with a small chicken wing, yet play off +3. Have tried to change it in the past to no success. Now i realise how stupid i was to try

  • Jeff, a really top guy. Gave me a great lesson in St Andrews. Spent some great time helping me keep that club face open. Even though we were upholding the Scottish stereotype ( enjoying a beer ). Thanks also for the book. Your kid ate a divot. A great light read.....All the best of luck....a very very good coach. DB

  • man, this guy ripped! How much can he bench?

  • nice tips. u've got a mean pimp slap goin on.

  • Good stuff as always Jeff. Playing around with the slap release on the range the other added at least 50% higher ballflight, if I can get it consistent. I think I'm usually employing a block release based on your vid, which may explain why I don't think I flip the club, but I still produce low blocks, which kill my long irons and woods. Do you recommend using multiple release types in a round, depending on shots you are trying to hit? Or should mid-cappers like myself try to stick with one?

  • with wich hand are you going to close the club face with?

  • i like the cut of your jib... talking a lot of sense without the waffle...thanks

  • Hi jeff!!!

I was wondering if a player uses a block release with a closed face, then what would the release positions would be for hybrids, woods and drivers??? (Since you demonstrated the iron). Well, the block release looks like it would deloft the hybrids and woods. Any tips?

  • My biggest problem in the golf swing was not crossing the hands just after the impact position. Jeff shows very good was has to be done.

  • check out ... HITMANHAWKY... vid on grip and release.. MUST SEE..you can skip the first 2minutes. understand what the left hand is doing...all right hand is all wrong... start seeing what a divot should look like.....

  • @sulakleo... Sorry dude, all right hand is best if you are right-handed. It will also give you the most feedback from your swing (than the old "back of the left hand" bullshit!!) Get ur ass down the range!!! LOL!!!

  • Jeff has helped me more than all instructors combined. I'm down to a 4. One-plane is the key.

  • Jeff,

I use the block follow through. Its works perfect for short irons (straight to slight fade) but as i get to my 5 and 4 iron the fade becomes a slice. How can I fix that? Should I get a new follow through or should I tweak my follow through slightly for longer irons? I hate trying to change a follow through based different clubs.

I'm currently an 8 handicap but the 170-220yd range is killing me. Thanks

  • SMACK MY BITCH UP @ 2:23

  • jeffritter is the best videosto watch

  • hey, can someone check out my swing

  • you can really also combine all three as well....

  • I disagree. There is more than one way to release the club, and Jeff is absolutely correct on this. A "correct" swing could mean a lot of different combinations of moves. Look at Couples and Trevino... which one of those guys has the "correct" release? I'd take either one of their careers. :)

  • but, would you take either of their back / neck injuries / problems? Just a thought.

  • Jeff,

I discovered these vids after a year of trying to get one-plane theory to work. This particular vid changed everything. I have been working on the slap release for the last week and my shots have come alive! I'm hitting the same distance, but with much higher trajectory and better directional control.

One question, just curious... How tall are you? I'm 5'8", and my shoulder plane seems a bit flatter than yours. Could this be because of our relative height? Thanks!

  • My natural release (Subconsious) is a block release (I think) since my hips tend to out race my club head and I tend to slice. So I tried consciously rolling my right hand over my left (Roll relase) but I was hooking the ball too much. So I chaned my grip to a weak grip and did the roll release which seemed right and I was happy.

Unless I spend time on the range before I start on tee 1, I tend to keep going back to my natural (Block/slice).

Any drill that to help me to develop a roll rel?

  • Yes but what to work on? Just saying 'timing' isn't too helpful. Any drills, for example, that would improve my timing?

  • @dggood its all about timing

  • Very nice tip. Thank you..

  • hi could you have a look at my swing im fourteen years old thanks

  • thank you so much. this is the best instruction on release. you actually gave us options and explained the differences. I have heard from different pros about the same topic but none of them put it as clear and as thorough as you did. I will definately try it.

  • what should I do if my tendency is to have a very high launch or even sometimes hitting some fat shots? maybe slap?

  • Look at him go on that backswing!! He's really enjoing himself :) If he jerks like his backswing, he might just pull it off!

  • nice, I think i'll practice that slap one on my girlfriend... haha.. j/k. I use the block, works well.

  • Hey Jeff. Very interesting info on the release of the club. The pro at my club said I was releasing the club too early, resulting in an open club face, high ball flight and severe loss of distance (he's good at finding faults but not so good at fixing them!). I tried your rotation release and my 7iron has gone from 140 yrds to 160! However, I'm now hitting it out to the left - about 10-15 yrds off target. I like the extra distance but how do I straighten it out again?

  • When you are at your downswing keep your right elbow close to your body(providing your a right hander) This should keep you from hooking the ball to much

  • Check your ball position and get to your left side at impact.

  • Make sure you are bringing in your right knee first at the start of the downswing and, at impact, hitting outwards to the right with an extended follow-thru. You'll get a nice draw with that rotation (roll) release. BTW...on the downswing keep your back facing the target as long as you can. It will create just a fraction of a second's delay but it will be enough to lag the clubhead and eliminate your over the top (early release) move.

  • I just realized that I have an extreme roll release and that's why i hit a very strong draw. Great vid Jeff! I'm considering the one swing plane because of this vid!

  • Good vid man, I'm impressed with your info. I'm a 5 and I haven't heard anyone break down the releases like that. Well done.

  • Yeah I co-sign that. I'm a 2 handicap and I didn't even know three releases existed!

  • Jeff,

thks for g8 video. I am curently a paying member of the Chuck Quinton site. I must say that your vids are better than his and you seem to be teaching similar methods ie one plane.

Could you go into more detail on the slap release. I am alittle confused when the left elbow is suppose to bend in to the side.

  • hey jeoff can you give me a few examples of a tour pro who uses slap/snap release.

    many thanks

  • TGM police in the house. ;)

Thanks for the lesson Jeff. Much appreciated.

  • loving your videos - thanks

One thing - someone recently said to me that release is like 'skimming a stone at the beach' - I have since tried this and had lots of success (for me) - not sure if the actions you mention cover this (I would say it feels a-bit like the slap one, again to me) - what are your thoughts on this. Thanks

  • I knew that was a Golfing Machine reference. I have read it as well.

  • dont you like the Golfing Machine? i've seen many very good teachers who aren't A.I's but use many TGM terms and ideas. you do not do this. you obviously feel Jim Hardy's theory is better

  • I teach golf, not One-Plane, not Golfing Machine not any one method. I have preferences which are certainly influenced tremendously by Jim Hardy, but in the end my goal is to fix the impact and I use many influences and ideas to do so, even some Golfing Machine related. I spent a week with Ben Doyle in California and took alot from that experience. I don't get caught up in terminology or semantics as it really doesn't matter what something is called, only that it works.

  • thats the way to go jeff. 'i dont care what you do, as long as you kno how to!' thats the proper way to teach. well done jeff

  • you dont release the club. if you release the club you throw it, and you have to chase after it lol you release your power accumulators

  • "Release" is a universally recognized term in golf instruction used to convey an understanding of how to deliver stored energy to the golf ball and or control the clubface. I believe that point is understood in this post and thus helpful to subscribers.

  • i know jeff. im refering to a golfing machine term the 'four power accumulators'. its a quote from ben doyle, thats all

  • @pecky1234 dude you got served twice! ha ha
