Ahh my friends and I are doing that this year in the middle of a paddok. Have a HUGE fire and we are going to paint our faces and have drums and everything....MASSIVE sacrificial ceremony :D

correction- DON'T build it too high above ground unless you double layer it

HORRIBLE PIT, you can use Mason Cement, pretty cheap and contains most of the heat, might crack so build it too high above ground , some basic masonry techniques will turn that stack of bricks into a Pit you can cook a pig in, bbq, and burn more books in one sitting AND! have a marshmellow pole holster- GREAT VID!

research Bon fire structures- I found a good easy one on the net, with a good long burning time-

Best to leave a space on the bottom, and build the Bon-Fire structure on top of the Books - depending what structure of course- you could make a log cage structure and put the books inside , or pick a pyramid structure

and put the books on the bottom.
