The government should never force us what to eat, but it's good to get information out. The nutrition plate still isn't perfect though, dairy is included, which we don't actually need in our diet. Eating vegan is the perfect diet. I am very much for animal rights, and I don't think we should be slaughtering the 1 million + animals per hour for food. Government regulation of most things just creates chaos. People know what is morally right for the time.
For quite a large segment of the population, in other words, that tiny sound bite was a vindication & a RETRACTION of really bad previous recommendations that a lot of people were taking as Gospel, teaching it in schools when I grew up, et. al. It's a larger segment of the population, & sometimes to have a much more limited government, it's DEEPLY IMPORTANT that they acknowledge the mistakes they've previously made & recommended before they can JUSTLY get out of the way w/mess they've caused!!!
The one thing that's important about that thing with Michelle Obama unveling that new food recommendation from the government is the fact that the old pyramid insisted that meat & dairy were ESSENTIAL to a balanced diet, but this go 'round ACKNOWLEDGED governmentally that well-planned vegan & vegetarian diets COULD BE JUST AS HEALTHY. It's a bit of a vindication thing for naturopaths, vegans, raw fooders, people who only found the path out of disease by totally abandoning sugar & animal products
The federal government treats the citizens like the feedlot owner treats cattle… and for the same reasons. Shut up, eat what they tell you, get milked, then get butchered.
That's the same thing as when I was a kid in the 1960s, except then the food dictate was a square. If I ate that much grain I'd feel groggy and would gain weight.
How about telling restaurants that they can't serve salt?...or telling schools what they can and cannot serve AND disallowing parents to pack their children's lunch? And how about the fact that our First Lady is constantly lecturing us on nutrition and exercise yet every time they take their girls out in public they go for ice cream? The government needs to get out of our business from fireplaces to lightbulbs to sodium.
If your going to comment on the gov invading your space re diet, then say your fine in your own, at least back yourself with a healthy diet....."vegetables and grains"...? Please....google Paleo diet.
They are not telling us what to eat they are giving a guidline on how to eat healthier. There is a big difference between the two and if you can not grasp that then you have larger issues to deal with.

I second googling the Paleo Diet. Keep eating all of those whole grains and you will stay as big as you are.

You just think you didn't need the FDA to tell you what is good for you and what isn't. If they hadn't warned you you might have exploded.
