  • im 13 with 5 years of expierence... not that hard just the tone, musicality, and some of the rythms are hard.

  • @Killercheese101 the piece isn't that hard... Getting the musicality and tone is the hard part... I have 5 years of experience

  • I'm a 12 year old viola player with around 2 1/2 years of experience under my belt, I am currently learning third position. How hard would this piece be for someone with my skill to master? Where can I buy some sheet music for this?

  • @killercheese101 I'm listening to this music right now, I think I'm gonna need private lessons and some help from my teacher for this one.

  • @killercheese101 You can either order the music at a website called Shar Music or find it for free under public domain at the International Music Score Library Project. Goodluck!

  • @killercheese101 I'm 17 with 6 years of Viola experience. I'm playing this and the 2nd movement for my exam. It depends on which Music Board you're with because I think with Associate Board & Trinity Guildhall this is Grade 6 List A piece.

  • Força Violas!!

  • just playin' this exact concert myself ahh :)

  • Weird camera angle -- always focusing on the soloist's back.

  • @davehshs It's focusing on the viola, actually. Not the player.

  • @justa16thnote You may be right. But the view of the viola is not sufficient to let anyone observe the player's technique. I personally would much rather see the musician from the front than observe a distant viola. Might as well post the soundtrack with a still photo of a viola.

  • the first viola concerto i fell in love with and still cannot get out of my head. i play it constantly!!

  • Mizerabil!!!

  • Comment removed

  • waakala... horrible... y peor la cadenza... echale ganas.

  • @Alexus22wtm Mmmmmm. Cadenza by Ulrich Koch, ex principal viola of the SWF in Baden Baden, and much respected performer and teacher. Bueno.

  • That strange cadenza doesn't seem to fit the style of the piece or the period.

  • @wcbroccoli it doesn't here but we played it recently and it was played completely different and i though it was wonderful. (i played the first violin part unfortunately im not a viola player).

  • I love the ornaments! I thnk it is very appropriate fr the bare bones of the written melody!

  • bellissimo

  • Bravo , like Brahms sonata, but it´s OK :)

  • Nice tone!

  • Nice tone!

  • Nice Tone! seems like he could use a bit more connection with the orchestra....as soloist you lead the orchestra. intonation and tone is great though.

  • Such a beautiful instrument; a shame so rarely used as a solo instrument!

  • nice!! Am doing for grade 5 exam

  • @mossman1410 Surely not grade 5 -- had this standard piece in grade 3.

  • @vacuouss1 but i had to play movement 2 as well as movement 1-- its in the syllabus.

  • i envy you, you are so talented.

i am playin this piece for my exam in two weeks but am finding it quite difficilt.

  • Amazing music !!! Congratulations !!! Maravilhoso!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Viola power! Haha :)

  • noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....this is baroque music? ahahah

  • Nah! It's rhythm and blues silly!

  • So beautiful. Great interpretation!

  • thank you! you save my musictest!

  • so beautiful its alllll about dem VIOLASSSS

  • Yeah, well, there were only three....but even so!!

  • You play the whole piece like its a bunch of triplets. They are all doted quarter and an eighth notes. Hold that dotted quarter longer!

  • no! donwanna do it

  • I played this for my college music department audition. Ha, I wish I could have played it this well!!

  • thats the way its supposed to be, light is faster than sound. pro orchs are the same

  • this is beautiful, rich textures, and really clean ^__^ nice work :]

  • tambien lo he tocado que lindo se escucha

  • can someone help me? Im playing this right now but i think there is a piano version with it not the strings background. But i can't find it. Help?

  • I know Suzuki Violin School has arranged this with a piano accompaniment.

  • yes there is a piano part, however I do not know where you can find it... my teacher has a copy so I know it out there.... sry I couldnt be of more help...

  • i have it. mwa ha ha ha ha!

  • u can get this in most music shops for viola and piano i know as i have it fas played this for one of my viola exams lovely piece of music

  • Yes, there is - made by Dowani Three Tempi Play Along. You get the piano sheet music, and a CD to practise.

  • The best performance I have ever heard of this work was by Musica Antiqua Koln with Florian Deuter as the soloist. Just the ornamentals alone are enough to garner a listen. Raised goosebumps here. NOTHING has ever come close to following Telemann's tempo marings for this work than Deuter and Reinhard Goebel's MAK.......

  • Wow i really love this peice. I am actually performing this peice of music this coming thursday ( in 4 days) for my highschool. I really love the sound of the viola....the whole reason why i play!

  • I'm performing this concerto in approximiately in 5 days..and I just love this arrangement of the piece.

PS: The sound on the viola is exquisite..who is the maker? and what year?

  • The viola is by a Dutch maker, Alfons Pisters and has a l.o.b. 43cm. I don't know the year I'm afraid.

  • wow. thats really nice. and really clean by the way.

  • very beautiful!

  • Você tem gelo nas suas veias, ou que?

  • This is barroque concerto, you've ruined it by "romanticizing" it too much. The articulation is too legatto, and there's too much ornamentation. At least the orchestra got it right.

I'm not saying we should all play this oeuvre the same way, but "romantic" and "barroque", for me, don't go together.

  • Wimre said... Ahh!

    I like it! Wonderful! 5*

  • When you hear something like this, you wonder how Telemann isn't (yet?) a household name like Bach, Mozart or Beethoven... true, a number of composers who aren't near that rank can occasionally, as if by luck, whip out something amazing and everlasting. But I'm not at all suggesting that that is the case here! Here is something more true... and so even without Telemann's ouevre being well promoted yet, we can tell it ought to be more, and our appreciation will deepen! Bravo!

  • Hey how come you've quoted everyone? Is it cos someone has spam-thumbs-downed everything? In which case, thanks :) that's a great show of effort!

  • You guessed it - and thanks for your very nice comments !

  • No, thank you for doing a big job in restoring them! And for uploading this superb performance! I will thumbs-up all comments that still allow it. It's sad that people get kicks out of this sort of vandalism, makes me wonder how they pass their lives...

  • What a fantastic concerto ! What a lovely viola ! I'm fall in love to this piece. It give me shivers. It's a beautiful and pleasant sound.

  • Soulful - bravo Telemann and bravo conductor, orchestra and soloist

  • what a lovely viola and a a great violist behind it

  • sheepbird said... what a lovely viola and a a great violist behind it

  • Yeah Who made that viola and when? It has a wonderful sound!

  • viola by Alfons Pisters, 43cm.

  • Too much ornamentation for my taste.

  • Sigh! Have you tried to find new Telemann recordings on CD? Instead of this beautiful "living tradition" tone with modern instruments most have "period instruments" with not only excessive ornamentation but brutal clipping of long and soulful, notes and deliberate omission of vibrato.

  • I wish I had orchestra accompaniment when I performed this piece. ;/

  • excelente!!!

  • Baroque music is all about improve. That is why it looks so simple on paper. You have the most creative interpretation of this that I have heard yet and a true inspiration to me to go back and give the Telemann a second look.

  • I love it! The most beautiful interpretation of the Telemann ever. I am a violist myself (a student), and I listen to this for inspiration every day. Do you have a recording I could purchase to have on CD?

  • bravíssimo!

  • I remember playing this solo as a kid.

  • cool

  • :O i play this. Love it, one of my favourite pieces.

  • yeah! I can play the viola solo...I've worked on it for my lessons...cool piece...I like the cadenza the best :]

I don't like how the soloist is facing the performers more than the audience though...Its annoying

  • Aw, you shouldn't worry! You are an INCREDIBLE violist! I didn't mean for my original comment to sound so mean...I love your sound. Good Job!

  • i play now telemann's viola conserto and I love it. :)

  • Sorry but this is way to romantic - too much vibrato, the accompanying strings are way to heavy and loud. He does make a good sound and if it was Bruch i would like it, but this is Telemann - English Baroque! Come on!!!

  • I Bruch no fools and the television man was German, last time I looked. Next!......

  • so what? it's romantic & sounds amazing too, big deal

  • While there are infinite ways to play/interpret a piece, there are only a few ways to play it incorrectly. This was not one of them.

    Bravo, Brasileiros! :)

  • The Baroque was all about improve and we have no way of knowing what amount (if any) is the perfect amount. I commend him for thinking outside of the music box and reaching into the meaning of the piece.

  • Yup, too romantic indeed!

  • I understand you're a period man. But think about this - period is an acquired taste that needs both musical background and the ability to translate oneself to an earlier time. Which would Telemann prefer were he to return - a style that was appreciated for its "ancient" quality or that which appreciated his acknowledged romantic bent and brought his is music to the largest number of music lovers?

  • What is the make of your viola?

  • Hello twist19! The viola I play on is made by Alfons Pisters from Holland: it is 43cm length of back, but is easy to play because it has a thin neck. It's not my viola, but was lent to me!

  • Very good Sire!

  • dang thats good

  • Yes, if we could afford enough wetsuits the whole orchestra could do likewise. We could do it in the shark tank at the Lisbon oceanarium, before an invited audience of politicians, dignitaries and doctors. Hostile rays could be fended off with carbon fibre bows. Sharks would not attack as it is a well known fact that the sound of the viola is fatal to sharks.

  • my wet suit woz in the dry kleeners!

  • Thanx for Sharing this Lovely Piece of Music...Performed Marvelously...

Congratulations & Best Wishes to All of You!

  • the best interpretation I've heard

  • gotta love the viola

  • I love this! Mr. Lloyd plays this so beautifully! I'm trying to learn this same viola concerto and I find Mr. Lloyd's playing so inspiring.

  • One of the best interpretations I´ve seen, Excellent!!

  • Excellent!

  • Dear Jerald 1610! Thank you for your comment! Please check out the other videos on the site of Richtomes where I perform the other movements of the Telemann concerto!

  • I just wish the viola had a greater acoustic range than the violin. It's actually suppose to be 21 inches long

  • yes very true

  • Very true. My viola is 17 inches, you would be hard pressed to find a great number of people who could actually play a 21 inch. I would like to try though!

  • Dear Vlad! The viola I played the Telemann on is 17 inches. I have a 17.5 inch viola but use it rarely, although it has a great sound. My day to day viola for teaching and quartet work is 16 and 3/8ths.

  • Well it has great tone and you play very well. I really enjoyed the ornamentations and cadenza. So you are the principal violist of this orchestra, or a guest soloist?

  • Ur a guest soloist

  • He's the principal vlad, but on this occasion was also the guest soloist.

  • Nice site Mr otterhouse ! - thankyou - please check out the other movements of David Lloyd's Telemann recently posted, and Natasha playing Beethoven - your comments are welcomed.

  • wonderfull

  • NICE!

    César Nogueira

  • Yes! Grayt Sackcess!
