  • that engine is really nice!

  • Just think if they made "Emergency" now, how they could make car accidents etc more graphic then they did back then. Also as you watch the hospital scenes, how much medical technology has advanced. Do you know what the name of Rampart General is called now if its still standing?

  • @beatleman69 Hi and thanks for the question. Please type in "The Real Rampart General Hospital" to see my video of the hospital used to depict rampart in the series. It's now called UCLA-Harbor Medical Center. In the video above I give more info in the description on what it was called at the time of the show, when it was built, etc.

  • It would be so cool to see if the station on the inside has changed or is relatively the same. I am glad they preserved this land mark.

  • @beatleman69 Hi and thanks for the comment. I went inside the station -- the friendly fire fighters gave me a tour. The interior layout is pretty much identical to what it was like in the show.

  • lol those truck look weird in there.

  • do trucks always lead in the lacofd?

  • Love it!

I have my Station 51 (127) Code 3 fire house and just finished lighting up the interior with LEDs. Emergency was the the best TV show ever. It can still be viewed for free on Hulu.com.

  • @HankySpanky51 I can do one better than that. I've got the entire series run (including the late season movies) on DVD in my personal collection.

  • Does the first engine have to have someone in back driving also.

  • @CamoDiesel Hi and thanks for the question. Yes, the quint (tiller ladder) has a tiller driver in the back. This allows the vehicle to make tight turns quickly.

  • @ColinFWheeler Hi and thanks for responding I would say that is a very weird ride steering from the back.

  • @ColinFWheeler How does a fire station run without at least 1 medic ?

Also were did you get that scanner/pager? the big small phone thingy lol

  • Love that show!!!!!!!

  • didn't Gage once say he wanted to be a tillerman??? I noticed one of the trucks has this.

  • @lkgreen100 I think he did. Also, in the episode "The New Engine", he mentioned how much he liked working on an Engine.

  • I have a Qustion do you just stand in front of all LACFD and take fottage ? I'm not being mean I just thank you do a great job on telling the history and information. The information that you provide can help someone wanted to do the fire service. Keep up the great service.

  • @collinsmichael0355 Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm glad you like the vids. Except for LACoFD 127, I only film at very busy stations, so I usually only need to wait a short time before a company in the station gets a run.

  • @ColinFWheeler what are some of these very busy stations? ha juat curious

  • so cool.

  • @notfauxnooz Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

  • The Shell gas station is still there, beginning at 1:11. Johnny & Roy passed it almost every time Squad 51 went out.

  • O my god, I loved that show!!!!

  • they should put a squad 51 there. that would make it awesome!

  • Great video,Colin! I have always wondered if that fire station's building really existed or if it was only a studio set. To see that"Station51" lives on is wonderful! I always enjoyed the show! Now I know the building/station actually exists, but as a real life fire station. In another video,I see the hospital actually does exist as well. Will always remember Rampart Hospital and Station 51!

  • @KC9SYJ Thanks very much for the comment. I'm glad you like it!

  • Never seen a tiller w/ a pump!

  • @bricktownfiredept This is why it is called a quint. It has five functions. pump, water tank, fire hose, aerial ladder, and ground ladders.

  • @Kingscup20 I know it's a quint, but I'd just never seen it this way before....lol

  • Great to see Station 51 lives on, but I have one question. The building seems "smaller". Is it because of more buildings in the area or is it because of the camera lens perspective?

  • @BulletNoseBetty Hi and thanks for the question. It may be because in the show, the station was usually filmed from an elevated camera about 20 to 30 feet up. I filmed this at street level.

  • @ColinFWheeler That does make sense. I'm also wondering if the show also used a fish eye lens to make the building look wider...

  • Very cool video...Squad 51 lives on!

  • @pablopcasso Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

  • To bad they didn't go all out with the sirens, woulda made the video that much more perfect.

  • Thanks for this iam from germany and i really like to see american fire and police cars/trucks

  • @BioWolf091 Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

  • This is so cool. Recently started watching the Emergency (DVDs) to relive old memories and happened to stumble on your YT page-- I love the vids of all the different stations you have, especially the ones in Seattle. Keep up the great work and keep doing what you love. =o)

  • @JES1068 Thanks! I appreciate that. :)

  • You forgot the foam unit at 0:20.

  • Yeah that's not a quint man. That's a Tiller Ladder.

  • @FreedomHigh4 Yes it's a Tiller Ladder, but LaCOFD calls them a quint because they carry their own water supply.

  • County always runs the engine (if there's one) seperate from the LF correct? City runs them all together in a TF.

8's is a good example. E8 always runs seperate from LF8?

  • Truck always goes first so it can be spotted in the best position.

  • Thanks for posting. Nice to see that they still have the same old apparatus door as on the show,

  • @FireBuff51 Thanks --- I'm glad you liked it. Yes, I was happy to see that after all these years, the station had changed very little, both inside and outside. The interior layout of the station was exactly like it was in the show.

  • @ColinFWheeler Great Video. I too am a big LACounty Fire buff. I wish to note however that the interior shots were all filmed at Universal studios> The station's interior was actually modeled after that of Fire Station 36- about 2 miles down the road but also in Carson. Only 127's exterior was used. I do believe that all the interiors of that era's stations were identical. The layout of FS 145 in Rowland heights and 11 in Altadena are the same as well.

  • @tommy15958 Thanks for the info. I'm glad you liked the vid. As you point out, the layout of stations of that era must have been similar as the inside looked to me almost exactly as it did in the show .... on the right side is the captain's office and kitchen / den (location of dining table, TV, stove, fridge, etc., were just as on the show) ... left side is sleeping quarters and changing room / bathroom. Even the wooden lockers in the changing room are the same as they were on the show.

  • @ColinFWheeler I recently received an additional email from another person who either woirked at (or knew someone that did) Station 127. he confirms what you have believed that some footage was indeed shot at Station 127 inside. But they did make a similar set for most interior shooting at Universal studios. 2 interesting facts. Notice in the shows, they only filmed in summer. This was so Mike Stoker cold film as during fire season- he and the exxtra fireman would not be available.

  • also 2- the producers had originally scheduled to use Fire station 56 nin Palos verdes fr the outside shoots, but the glare was too great into the cameras becuase the station sits facing the exact opposite direction. Kind of interestung tidbits of knowledge. I hope that you continue to provide such great videos. Perhaps a video of the real Squad 51 from Universal Studios?

  • @tommy15958 Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Yes, it would be fun to see Stn 51 at Universal Studios some time. BTW, during my L.A. trip, I also went to see LACoFD Stn 8, the site of the station in the pilot episode (called station 10) -- Johnny's original station before joining the paramedic program. Station 8's exterior had hardly changed since the pilot episode, and its companies are still largely the same: Truck, 2 Engines, Squad (no BC though, I believe).

  • wasn't there an oil refinery across the street?

  • @charliebenhard Hi and thanks for the question. Yes, there is a large refinery across the street from the station, and it's still there. It still looks just like it did in the show. It was originally an ARCO refinery, but is now a BP refinery. Stn 127 is in a mostly industrial area. A foam unit is quartered at Stn 127 (behind the Engine) in case there's a fire at the refinery.

  • Just for the heads up, it's Light Force 127. Not Light Task Force 127. Task Force is a LA City thing.

  • @grnkl115 Thanks for the info. I'll put in a text box in each of my LACoFD Stn 127 vids clarifying that.

  • @ColinFWheeler -- No problem. Nice Vids. What kind of camera do you use?

  • @grnkl115 Hi there. Thanks. I use a mino flip video recorder with a tripod to keep it steady.

  • @ColinFWheeler --- Cool. I've been trying to find to find a camera that is able to handle sirens. If you seen some of my vids, the audio is horrible.

  • Squad 51 Standby For Response

  • A tiller quint? I've never seen that before.

  • @abzvinny318 Yes, I was surprised at that too. I've never seen that before either.

  • @ColinFWheeler

At least you're the lucky one that got to see it in person ;)

  • @abzvinny318 kinda contradicting huh?

  • @hollowpoint81

    Pretty much.

  • Great job, Colin. Brought back memories of ole Station 51.

  • @zaffdoc Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Seeing this station in real life is something that I've wanted to do for a long time. It was interesting how much it hadn't changed (inside and out) since the filming of the series in the early to mid 1970s

  • @ColinFWheeler There has never been another TV series like Emergency. I truly enjoyed it as did my wife and children.
