dun underestimate that the guy's father was from China. so naturally he feels an affinity to mainland. its not right for him to say that middle/upper class of society subscribes to certain political values (KMT) & lower half (DPP) the opposite. its completely biased, ignorant & implies that pro-taiwan people are stupid & easily led. If this guy was to tell the truth, he would say that 1/2 of population want independence from China & the other half wants some sort of unification with Mainland

There are still significant proportion of Taiwanese that see Taiwan, as a nation.

Group

1) Taiwan is Taiwan, China is China (hostile type)

2) Taiwan (ROC) and China (PRC) (neutral type - recognize historical connections)

3) Taiwan, has always been part of China (the 5000 yrs history China - not the current government)

4) Taiwan, is part of China (politically)

5) Taiwan? No it is Chinese Taiwan (directly hostile against group 1)

Now, majority of Taiwanese belongs to group 1~3 - mostly 2 & 3.
