  • u r so smart! thanks for ur tips....can u please do a tuturial for very deep set eyes?

  • I really like to put eye shadows and it saddens me that I have hooded eyes and the worst part is that one of my eyes are hooded more differently than the others. well I still know how to put make up and eyes shadows nicely but at the same time I can't help the feeling of why I had these :(

Any way I'll try your diagram maybe it will work for me :)

  • I don't know what kind of eyes do I have. How to figure it out?

  • Which brand of eyeshadows are used in this tutorial?

  • I love this tutorial. I learned so much! Thanks :)

  • I have hooded eyes and this tutorial really helped. I'm a make up novice but this helped a lot. Thanks again

  • I have learned something new today. I had no idea when I started with eye makeup that I had a "TYPE". I have the hooded eye and it sucks.LOL I know there are way around it but I always wondered why my shadows never looked like the other girls on here that i loved so much. They didn't have the hooded eye and I do. Yeah for me. Thanks for showing us how too change the look and make it better. I will be trying this from now on. Also, please come to my channel and sub for me if u would. Thanks

  • I liked this video, esp the paper "model"...it's easier for you to point to specific areas when using technique, and you take the time to actually show and tell the whys and wherefores of application. Now I understand what I have to do to put on good eyeshadow.

    Thx!

  • could you please do the tutoral on a person.... for me it's just confusing on paper!! pleaseee!

  • @itzdomus *tutorial

  • Tanks! Now I know my eyeshape and I understand why it was so difficult for me to get the perfect eye makeup. I do not like overdone eyemake up, but I've tried smokey eyes a few times and it always looked weird. The only negative thing about this video is, that I nearly fell asleep, due to your speaking rate. Anyway, thank you! I have learned a lot. :o)

  • Thanks for this video, since I turned 45, I've notice that my eyelinds are disappearing, so I've been looking for a video like this as going to a professional makeup artist can be really expensive, thanks again for the great video. Very helpful.

  • watching you do this to your brushes made me cringe. good video though.

  • @MsThebza no worries... those are old and were only used before the end of their dear life. :3

  • Excellent. Thank you.

  • Thid makeup is only for a certain type of hooded eye. The other type does not have that "triangle" shape on top. This particular type is more than not caused by natural ageing.

  • @HittenRun1 true but the technique is still the same :3

  • you keep repeating hooded eyes are weird... not cool.

  • @newnoona you people have horrible listening skills! lol I said weird once and actually that's a term used by people with hooded eyes! I hear it ALL THE TIME by the women in my chair! haha wow. I guess remaking these videos may be worth it if all people get from these videos is my one time use of the term "weird" lol

  • @lavoulpe thanks for responding. it is not a matter of count, it was inserted in there even if only once and it bothered me. i have hooded eyes and i think they are fine. if some people feel badly about their hooded eyelids i'd say you are in an amazing position to discourage such a negative self image, especially since your tutorials are quite useful and get thousands of reviews. good luck always.

  • @newnoona the use of the term weird there was not in the self image of the eye shape. There is nothing wrong with this eye shape. The term weird was used by the fact that when this eye shape puts eye makeup on using the guidelines of the known as "normal" eye shape (which is how it is taught by ALL makeup institutes) that the person gets the feeling that the makeup looks weird or is somehow off or not right. This tutorial is to teach how to correct that feeling, not to further any negativity.

  • uh people who have hooded eyes don't look "weird" or "off". It's just another eye shape.

  • @missplumcake exactly but those who have tried to put on makeup on a hooded eye and get frustrated because they feel well weird, or the makeup itself is off or unflattering. Not used here as a negative term but as sharing what most hooded eyed people feel when trying to put makeup on their eyes. :3

  • FINALLY I have found a video that will properly explain how to do hooded eyes properly. Thank you so much for uploading this. Bless

  • Many thanks for this! I admit it is very difficult to do makeup on hooded eyes, but I know the technique now.

  • OMG! I am so happy I found this video! I have the most hooded eyes ever and this is the best video I've found. I love that you explain the reasoning behind everything so we can try and adapt it to our eye shape. 1,000,000 thumbs up from me!

  • Hi, I have very hooded eyes and this video was so helpful! I was wondering if you have any suggestions for preventing mascara from rubbing off on my upper lid. I use waterproof and it still rubs off a little. Also, do you recommend putting liner on the waterline of the lower lid for someone with hooded eyes? Thanks for your response!

  • @dexterkimbaful as far as the rubbing off, it may be the oil in your lids, a good eyeshadow primer may help but it may also be the kind of mascara ie the brand. I've found that liner on the bottom waterline really depends on whether you have smaller eyes or not. If you feel that your eyes are larger by all means go for it! If you feel that your eyes are on the small side, I'd go with liner from the outer edge to 2/3 of the way in

  • Like mandith I don't have the triangle on my eyes although my eyelids do droop a little in the middle.

Still, doing your tutorial on a diagram is a good idea and helped me a lot, thank you :)

  • very good tipp

  • You just taught be what two make-up schools didn't. Thank you!!!

  • Thank you sooo much. It helped me a lot.

  • Maybe it just my definition of a hooded eye but mine has like a flat flap over the eyelid like I have too much skin by my eye .. I don't think I can use this technique can I?

    Great video though

  • my right eye is deeper set into the eyesocket than the left one, because of trauma and fractures to the orbital bones. I have to turn my head farther to see thngs to the left of me. The crease and brow bone protude almost looking like an hooded eye. This tutorial has helped to play down the crease, without making the eye appear more recessed than it is. Thank You.

  • This is the best! I used your methods as a guide to work on my hooded eyes, which I've had since childhood. This works! And by the way, today is the first time I've ever used any kind of make-up, let alone work on my eyes to make them look less hooded and more open. Thank you!

  • Any brands for eyeliner you ( or any other youtubers) like? I find my biggest problem is finding one that doesn't rub onto my upper lid as the fold hangs down over my lid and the day goes on..

  • @kougraress I'm particular to the physician's formula line... waterproof, creamy, but you can actually get it off with most any makeup remover.

  • I don't have that triangle crease in my eyelids. I have a hooded eye. It just creases at the eye lid, a smooth even full crease, dome shaped like the shape of the eye lid itself.

  • very clever :)

  • LoL! I almost forgot to mention. My eyes are tiny as well! Please help!! ^_~

  • How can you tell the difference between deep set or hooded eyes?! Ive asked professional advice from different make up artist but one will tell me hooded others say deep set. I for sure know I have close set eyes and I rather have Asians do my make up. They seem to understand my eye shape better. I need help! I'm confused... I guess to what eye shape I have.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. As I age, I know I can't apply make up in the same manner as I did twenty years ago :).

  • this was so helpful thankyou

  • this was very odd........

  • this video really helps me to understand how to do make up on my hooded eyes and you are so clear. thank you

  • One of my eye is more hooded then the other one....and NOW WHA? xD

  • THIS BY FAARR FAAAR IS THE BEST VIDEO ON HOODED EYES!! Thank you! Thanks to you I finally today after yearsss of doing my make up am I able to do my eyes and loook perfectly balanced THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTTOM OF MY HEART!

  • Wow~ very good tutorial~ thank you for uploading this :)

  • Anotung as he'll voice

  • you talk so slooooooow

  • Ahahaha...

  • superb video, cheers

  • can you PLEASE do an almond eye tutorial with the picture. where you have very limited lid space but you can still see it.

It's like you can see your lid, but even if you put a thin line of eyeliner, when you look straight you just see the liner and no eyeshadow and i want to know ways to make my eyes look better without so overwhelming. Thanks.

  • my eyes are a little bit more hooded then lady gaga's does this look still work?

    pls tell me

  • I love how you showed this technique on a picture, instead of a real eye...I've come to realize that it's hard to find a youtube video of someone that has the same hooded eyes, as I. LOL Thanks so much!!!

  • @kaylalad thank you! That was the whole point! lol :3 For some people seeing it on paper is far more useful than showing on someone else's eyes. I'm glad this was helpful for you!

  • I have very hooded eyes and my eyes don't look as ugly as the drawing. I also don't have that "uneveness" or triangle... I always had this feeling that no one knows how to do makeup for hooded eyes, but the people have them. It's so disappointing.

  • @mandith Well, I guess the video was showing hooded eyes in it's most severe form, just so we understand the basic structure of the eye shape. I have hooded eyes, too but the "folds" aren't defined or noticeable. But perhaps they will be when I get older :P

  • This was great -- excellent format for teaching. I would have liked it better without music -- I found the music very distracting.

  • was the best tip I've ever seen, I'll going right away to try it out. Thanks a lot

  • This was such an informative video. Thanks for the great tips!!!!

  • Very helpful, I do a lot of makeup for friends, and hooded eyes always give me the most trouble.

  • From someone with a hooded monolid, this has been tremendously helpful! Great technique! (I also liked the relaxing music in the background.) Thank you very much!!

  • you need to stop saying umm and maybe use a real eye

  • this tutorial is helpful. I have hooded eyes and always end up applying too much crease color or highlight, because of bringing the crease color all the way up under the brow. i always worry about creasing when i open my eyes.or if theres enough color on my lids.

  • could you do a tutorial on people who have deep set eyes? my eyes aren't necessarily hooded i don't think, i just have very little brow space. i want to know how to open my eyes up. Please & thanks. :]

  • Great tutorial x

  • I have slightly hooded lids and I feel like when I contour the crease I have too much blank space up to my brow. Should I be putting color there almost up to the hightlight area or not ?

  • @jilldbloomer you have space for highlight? Jealous I am!! But it's really up to you! You could try to bring the crease color up a little bit and experiment with how high you feel comfortable taking the crease. Just be sure to blend blend blend. But you sound to be one of the lucky few who have the hood but still have the arch to support a highlight and keep the shape of your eye open :3

  • @lavoulpe thanks, this was really helpful!

  • @lavoulpe I have hooded eyes and tons of room for a highlight which may be why it took me forever to realize I had hooded eyes and that was why when I tried a lot of the makeup tutorials on my eye it never looked right....It would just disappear when I opened my eye.

  • @jilldbloomer It sounds like you have the same eye shape as I do, I have a video on applying crease colour to hooded lids, you might find it useful x

  • @angelarmogida i watched your tutorial and we DO have the same eyeshape. It's so frustrating because I want to be able to apply all of these pretty lid colors and pigments and I just feel like i dont have enough space. Oh well, I get tons of compliments on my eyes all the time so I guess I am doing something right. We always want what we dont have, right? Thanks for the video!!

  • @jilldbloomer Very true! I wish I didn't have hooded lids either, it's so annoying! x

  • what about the almond eyes? How to make up?

    Thanks.

  • thanks so much for these tips but I don't understand : what does hood mean? Is it crease?

If you added real pictures it would be wonderful

I have one eye which eyelid is "falling" and the other isn't :S

  • in fact the other is weird, it looks like I had 3 lids, my eyelid is falling too but in another way T_T

  • If you're young , and your eyes are Almost like Hooded eyes... Like it's your natural eye lid that has no crease ... Is this make up trick okay for someone like that ? :)

  • @XCutePupa you might want to have a look at the Asian Monolid video if you have no crease... those tips my be more helpful.

  • @lavoulpe Yeah thanx , but I just found that I had just a lower kinda crease , like just a line :P ahahah by the way nice video :)

  • *Continue*

So, how do I incorporate a bit of color into the mascar and eyeliner to make it not look silly and a bit less puffy? Thank you so much for the help.

  • @RacingGurl8197 basically all you want to do is have the darkest color on the puffy part of the hood. For some the hood falls parallel to the eye only hooding the center of the eye or most times the hood sits on the outer edge of the eye making the inner half wide open, causing a triangle opening to appear.

  • Hello! I have come to notice that I have VERY hooded eyes. It's almost as if under my eyebrows are swollen, my hoods droop so low. People (Like you) Talk about a "triangle" What is that? And I notice that when I do wear eyeshadow, you can't see the color but you can see it poking out at the sides and it looks funny. When I put on an extremely large amount of mascara, you can't see it because the hood goes over my lids and you can't see it. I normally wear just the mascara and eyeliner.

  • @RacingGurl8197 It sounds to me as though your hood sits more in the center of the eye. Along with darkening the puffy part try doing a cold compress to your eyes in the morning. Secretlifeofabionerd has a great green tea one :) If you have some swelling from sleeping this may also shrink the puffiness, kinda like undereye pillows but under your eyebrows :)

  • thank u so much was very helpful

  • Thank you so much for all the tips on makeup artistry on HOODED Eyes! I just had 1 question.. Would it change the eye shape when putting highlight on their brow bone?

  • @MrsGee776 yes but in a good way... normally the hood part of the eye is what most people unconsciously see first since that is most prominent. When you darken the hood and highlight the brow bone, you give yourself a visual eye lift. The focus will be on the eye lifting instead of the puffy part of the hood. :)

  • OMG this is veeeeeeeeeeeeeery helpful. I've got a few friends whose eyes are hooded and some are even born with monolids, and they will always ask me to do their make up. Now I know what to do and what not to do.

  • this stuff is reaally good! thank you!

  • I wish I saw this video ages ago.. I've come ot use this exact technique just from trial and error of what worked on my eyes. Especially the eyeliner part! It felt like it was a cardinal sin to not line all the way to the tear duct because no guru on youtube does that, but I found that's what really worked with my eyeshape.

  • I don't really have a "droop". My eyes have been, I guess what people call hooded, all my life. My eyes are very deep set so that my crease is very deep in. Would I use this same technique. My skin isn't actually droopy.

  • I am seventeen and i have hooded eyes. Is it possible that my eyes will get even more hooded when I get old?

Thank you for this demonstration, I am most definitly going to try it out.

  • I have one hooded eye, and one unhooded eye.

  • @Belle19700 LOL

  • awesome ! I am so thankful for this tutorial ! I learned a lot :)

  • TOO SLOW!!!! you're talking so slow it becomes boring.

  • @artatheart512 lol I know right? :) The problem is that I usually talk way too fast for most people to catch what I am saying so all of my first videos are me talking ridiculously slow. :) Thanks for the view though

  • I'm going to give this a try right now. Thank you!!

  • This is a wonderful demonstration for hooded eyelids! I'm so glad I found this.

  • Nice demostration...!!!

  • Very clear instructions, Thank you! My eyes look like they "used to" before I hit my 40's !

    Thanks for the tips.

  • my eyes are hooded but they are hooded all the way across they dont make that "triangle" and the top is puffed outward :-( i cannot figure how to create a creased eye

  • @Supersaiiyin if the "puffy" part of the hood is more over the top of the eye instead on the outer corner, use the same technique for over the eye instead of on the outer edge. Still concentrate the darker color on the "puffy" part but you won't have to worry as much about the shape of your eye. Instead just try to make the darker color flow smoothly from outer corner to 3/4 of the way in, blending well on the puff part of the hood.

  • wow this was a great way to do a tutorial. i'd love to see more like this. thanks!

  • GREAT!!!!

  • this is very useful help because i been having trouble doing my make up but thnx for da vid is great(:

    _monseh

  • thank you. very helpful.

  • Great video!!!!!!!!!

  • would you recommend for eye brows to be arched higher? i love doing make up but i do have that droop and i cant do alot that i would want to. :/

  • Hi i banged my eyebrow a while ago and have one eye sligtly hooded i bought eye magic magic eye strips ..for the life of me i cant use them they are visible do you have any tips or tricks on them thanks very much for the video its really clear XD Cathy

  • This is A-ma-zing!

It's a super clear tutorial, very very well explained!

    Thank you so much!

    Cheers,

  • Very helpful I'll try this technique

  • Very nice demonstration, very clear. Thank you. I have very light blue eyes, eyeliner seems severe on me. What would you recommend?

  • @Joynergy1 go with a brown that is smudged and you won't have too much contrast. Also be sure to stick as close as possible to the lash line.

  • nice tips

  • I have hooded eyes. Thank you for the tips.

  • I've had trouble with the application of the dark color on the hood, because it appears to push my eye inwards and make my eye look droppy and small. My browbone is quite prominent as well, would the application be different then? My eyes are very deep set, but I have a small lid area and a prominent browbone. Im a little clueless on how to do makeup

  • Even though I am only half way through the video, I felt the need to tell you that I learned so much. I watched others and I was lost, now I know what to do!

  • feelin like i have abnormal eyes now :( would really like a video on how to use eye liner for hooded eyes! seemes impossible 2 get it 2 look right!

  • Very helpful tutoria...Clear, organized and systematic.. =)

  • Best tutorial I've seen on hooded lids. Wonderfully done and helpful too! Thanks!

  • Great Tutorial.....

  • Fantastic tutorial, many thanks!

  • thank you so much!

    :D

  • Very helpful =)

  • Thank you very much, it was very helpful! The only problem I have now is that I got rid of all my normal eyeshadows and bought lots of beautiful shiny mineral pigments, and all that shimmer doesn't help :(

  • perfect

  • My mom has this eye shape and we could never get her eyeshadows to compliment her because we had no idea how to work with her shape. But now this has helped. I have a question though, could she do a full on cut crease all the way through, or not? Lastly, for the eyelids (which are only seen when blinking and in the inner half), must a dark color always be used and why? Thanks!
