Your description isn't very clear. What software was licensed? I know of software that cost thousands of dollars per year. Even if the software is only Office, it isn't a bad deal, since many of the people who will use it aren't students, and will use the software as professionals. It seems to me that the egg thrower isn't too Computer Savoy, or he should know this.

Balmer, on the other hand, should have expected something like that on presentations during his lifetime and should have been prepared. But instead, he hid himself like a chicken.
