Where I work at, I let the old beer come out of the tap before pouring the beer. In reality, this saves your cost, cause once you start a pour from the tap, it'll actually cause a little too much foam, and therefore, cause you more spills, and more beer to pour. This guide is almost accurate, but still a good learning guide for new bartenders.
@1philtaylorfan well yeah, but if you're tending the taps and know that the 2 inches of beer at the end of the faucet line has been there only a few minutes why waste it? But, yes, it's a good call to kill that first bit if it's old and room temp.
@GurkoKurdo God, why so angry? First, this isn't wrong, for the style of beer they're serving. Second, being belgian should indicate that you're an authority on beer... so why don't you explain why this shit is so fucking wrong?
@aarossell He didn't rinse the whole glass, it has to be completly washed under water so the whole glass gets the right temp. he did it wrong.
you must let the first drops of the tap not into the glass. you need to waste a few drops so you dont get the 'old' beer that is still stuck in the tap.
you keep holding the glass in a 45°angle, you dont keep it straigt since the foam will colaps if you hold it straight, so it has no sence if you put the glass straight since the beer will go to the bottom
@GurkoKurdo You have clearly never poured beer from a tap! And from the sound of it, you've never seen beer being poured, and, while I'm at it, I'd say you don't understand basic physics. Nice!
@ConnorFFHG Oh okay. Thanks. You've probably been told to never use a wet glass when serving your whole life. Truth is you want to rinse the interior with cold, pure water RIGHT before pouring beer into it, to clean any possible debris, dust, or lint, and to cool the glass to the beer's temp so it allows the beer to show good head and carbonation. It's not like it will dilute your beer, whatsoever, but it will demonstrate cleanliness.
@funkgerat Initially I didn't know what you were talking about, all I seen was a glass of beer moving around a dark screen....then I seen the reflection of his glasses.
@ringootdavid Great, like your geographical origin is supposed to deem credibility and authority on the matter. Now, go ahead and explain what's so wrong here. By the way I'm a brewer from Grand Rapids, Michigan, home to some of the world's highest rated beer, so now we're even. I await your answer.
@aarossell ok then, explain me why they don't clean the glass enter entirely, as a brewer you should know that dust on the glass has a lot of influence on the beer, and why don't they pour beer first down the drain, again, as a certificated brewer you should know that bacteria can stay in the tap, that's why they let it pour first into the drain, I didn't want to insult other people, but it's obviously clear that you need a lot to learn about beer dude, so stop lying please, thank you ;)
@ringootdavid Ok, first the glass should be rinsed, as they did here. Don't know what your problem is there, that's what they demonstrated. Second, the sacrificial first pour from the tap should be wasted, but thereafter during business hours it's okay to pour that 0.2 oz of beer. The time and temperature for bacteria to affect that portion doesn't occur in normal tap room activity. If you don't pour that beer for 6 hours then yeah, kill it. Big deal. Don't call me a liar fuck face.
@aarossell haha calm down dude, no need to curse, you made your point ;) I was only trying to say that I never saw a pooring style like this, you officially deserves the reward of most replying on people on youtube. Just let it go, it's just internet, no need to piss off other people, welcome to the internet ;)

I'd get in trouble if I left that much head on the top. It's supose to be 95% liquid 5% head,
d0m0natrix 4 months ago 2
@d0m0natrix Depends on the person and/or where you live I guess. If I saw a glass without a good head, I'd push it back to the bartender.
MrCheeseApe 2 months ago
@d0m0natrix
Depends on the beer actually. Maybe for a Miller Lite fine, but for a good IPA you want a half inch of head, no less, no more either.
