  • "i can't do everything" NO FREAKIN WAY

  • A lot of people do poi with fire on beaches on dance partys around the world as well.. I associate it more with the beach culture than hippies. =)

  • this guy looks like he just came straight out of the 90s

  • Are you Canadian? Idk why im askin lolz

  • I saw a video of Yuta that looks like he is doing this move.

  • damm

  • try it frontwards

  • i can do it 5 beat

  • i can do it forwards :) vids coming soon

  • try checking out Yuta's (from Japan) his isolation 3 beat weave. :)

  • hey man your awesome! iv only been doing poi for about 4 months and im already pretty good what do u think is the most difficult form of juggling?

  • where are you from?????

  • someone should make a video "how to 3 beat weave inversion butterfly" i cant seem to get it

  • I can't isolate

  • It's from the New Zealand from the Maori people and poi in their language means ball.

  • where is this guy from???

  • Canada

  • why doess he say he does not know?? at 1:38 is that not the 3 beat weave??? he was so doing it

  • id like to see you and nathanael everest in the same video.

  • hi nik my name is robbie and my poi teacher called Tom(boost) and he nos ou and i was just wondering if i could youse some of your videos

  • Thanx Nik for all your videos I have learned so much from them!!

  • oh my god he is human after all

  • I found it easier to learn this in a reverse 3bt weave, instead of coming out when you switch sides, keep the iso on the inside of your arms. Took me like, a month to get it right. Im still to afraid to do it lit up. -.-;

  • lol im sorry..i did sound kinda mean though....but anyways how ur poi doing?? learn anything new??

  • how do you hold it in your hands? do you wrap it around your fingers? ty=]

  • lol i was just joking

  • how was i to know you were joking comments can't show much emotion for me to tell is your joking or serious or what

  • Aww, please someone send a vid on how to do it!

I tried one hand each, and I can do a 3 beat wave and swap around each side, but with both hands... disastrous.

Thanks for your behind the back weave, it was a great help!

  • well if your Matt then put diabolo session 2007 or 2008 i don't remember but somewhere in the middle he shows some moves i am not sure if he does the isolated if u message me back ill send you the vid and tell u

  • Heh! On the end of the film is me. the speech: I am happy :p because I was happy really then, thanks to Nick for these workshops the year ago !!!

  • ..Poi lessons were once a part of my school curriculum here in New Zealand...but it was so long ago I dont remember much about it.

  • 2 things. one he said he cant realy do a fully isolated weave. second he has a video on just isolations check it out

  • xSPADEDx~

hey jerk are you deaf he says he didn't know how to do it and he is trying to see if he can but he fails and the lesson is "everyone has flaws everyone can't do everything"

  • heya everyone seems to be wondering where poi came from try searching "patea maori club" this will take you to a video of a song called "poi e" which was recorded in new zealand in the 80 it shows the more traditional moves and some awsum break dancing. and hey why not come visit our corner of the world one day we rock down here in good ol aotearoa. oh and by the way thanks for the tutorials nick im a member of my UNIVERSITY'S fire spinning club to all you hippie haters lol peace out!!!!!

  • gfys....

  • this is for all the guys that think poi is easy...

  • Green on green...not helpful to follow.

  • i just don't understand what the hell do hippies have to do with nick demonstrating how to do a specific (and very hard, for that matter) poi movement...

    great work, nick! :)

  • i think pcunnin9 thinks nick is a hippy, which is understandable looking at his clothing, lol,

Oh, and the poi is rather cool and hypnotic to watch :D

  • LOL, nuff said!

  • -to pcunnin9-

You see this video and conclude that hippies have to make a difference.

Yeah... right (I don't get it)

  • I have the same limit but it's sure that it's possible, some time ago i seen on hop a little clip of a boy in a camping that did a 5beat isolated...

P.s. Nick tanx for all this tutorials!

  • nick, ur so cute!!!! ^^

and thanks for posting all these tutorials :)

  • crazy people... only idiots say that pois are stupid... it's much harder than you think... geez... X(

  • Stupid people need to stop making stupid comments about hippies playing poi. You can tell that to every person in a park, playing basketball... what's the use? Have you ever heard of "fun"?

Why do people paint, or play music? They are not making any money out of it. This kind of thinking comes from someone really bitter. You should learn to have fun once in a while.

  • Why does it affect you what people do with their lives? Besides, most people don't do poi for a living. Wouldn't you go crazy without a hobby?

  • Im a hippy and I'm a happy hippy!

Yey for poi poi and hurrah to Nick Woolsey!!!! :D :D

    xCat

  • We were all born hippies :D:D:D:D

    We all become hippies

    fairwell starchild

time to spread myw ings nd fly

    haza

  • Dude, get over yourself! I'm no hippy and I'm older than you are and I do poi and firestick...and its a great way to keep flexibility and your reflexes. Plus it doesn't hurt to keep your sense of humour unless growing into a crotchety old sourpuss is your idea of "having a life".

  • you need to do sumthin with your life if you think this is stupid. i met up with my best mate coz of poi and got through a talent show with them too, they rock. u suk.

  • jealousy is a stinky perfume, my narrow minded, and destructive friend. You might need to keep your negativity and insults to yourself. Your obviously of no use to anyone here, so, CatsCradle26 is right. Go Fuck Yourself!

  • erm excuse me ....not everyone who spins poi or juggles are hippies!.....i am a poi performer and i make a good living out of spinnin poi so i think i have done something with my life thanks.i think you will find that Nick Woolsey has done rather well out of spinnin poi too. He is a poi legend! who has travelled round the world sharing his skills and making a difference......what the hell have you done to make a difference ?

  • That looked pretty isolated to me... lol It does feel like it pulls out of the iso, but I'm not so sure it does. Humm... Have you tried the 5 beats... Those are fun :) Oh ya... btw You are human, and you are a poi spinner lol... We all have our hang ups ;)You know...

  • I want to buy some pot from this guy.

  • nick, it looks like you figured it out in your new video on planes, you use a inversion to isolate a 3 beat weave in the transition, to keep it from breaking its isolation.

im glad you have been popping out new videos lately.

  • Very nice maybe someday I too can try POI

  • Wow u doing gud poi real hard lol

  • cool

  • Dude, that's good stuff. I'd be bashing myself in the face repeatedly.

  • From what ive learned (coming from a town with a rich maori culture) poi was used by maori warriors to help strengthen their wrists so that they could better use a weapon known as a patu. Now-a-days it is shown off in kapahaka, etc...

  • poi balls are really easy to make...but they are like the hardest things to swing!

  • Where did the poi originate from and what does ''poi'' mean??? Do you know? just curious...lolz

  • Poi means Ball in the Maori language. Poi dancing is an ancient tradition of the Maori people of Aotearoa (New Zealand)

  • che' your neat alright...

  • @meenik The Maori use to use the Poi as a way to strenghen their wrists and arms - a type of battle training. the Females also used them for that reason, they then turned them into a dance

  • @ArohaKopae o.... well a few ppl out htair say japan or china, i guess because that where thay think every impressive art of this sort comes from?? but im hear to say it, with out a doubt originated from Hawaii. dont let any one tell ya different

  • @sad1sfrits LOL, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but poi did not originate in Hawaii. while it may be a popular and maybe even very old art form in Hawaii it actually originated in New Zealand. But since Hawaii and New Zealand are both Pacific islands it is quite possible that the art found its way to Hawaii very early.

  • thats the one im learning how to do!

  • what is this for?

    is it like a weapon

    o what

  • In the video named YUTA (NFF practice for 2005) just after 2 minutes in he isolates the fountain all the way around, if my poi knowledge is correct, thats a 3 beat weave, but I can't get my wrists apart all the way either.....=)

  • So Cool Man @_@

  • cool

  • emmmmmmmmmmmm

  • wow nice

  • i learned how to do poi when i was in like 3rd grade. im pretty beastly if you ask me. its really fun though. i only did it once with fire though and it was really really scary.

  • 7 7 7 7 7 7 7

  • Poi Dancing originated with the Maori People of what is now known as New Zealand.

  • It's totally isolated guys :/

  • Well bryarworship I think since it involves poi it must have originated in Hawaii. If you really want to know, go search on the web for it. :-D

  • where did this originate?

  • Something I doubt dedsmurf will ever know are the joys of appreciating poi. And by the way, Americans, Canadians, Bulgarians, people from New Zealand, etc. all practice this Art. Don't be so quick to trash talk you fellow man. And to blame wasting time on Americans... Is just ignorant. The American people are not their government!

  • This is one of the best poi'ers in the world... And it is not an American activity, it's originally practiced in New Zealand (by the Maori people), Thailand, in Polynesia and Bulgaria. I don't think you fully understand the nature of poi, that it is fun and exciting, good for children and adults for hand-eye coordination... And quite frankly, this is also quite remarkable when they things he's spinning around are ON FIRE.

  • been around in martial arts for centuries also

  • americans waste so much of their time.

  • this isn't American idiot

  • Find ich einen lustigen Zeitvertreib!

  • pretty amazing

  • WTF is this???????????????

  • You should have shot in progressive - the interlacing makes is look a bit odd. Anyway, I've never seen this but it's neat. I'm gonna check it out.

  • what is this stuff?

  • ohbabycarpediem, It's called poi spinning. It originates from the Maori tribe of New Zealand. More often now days people do it with either glow sticks, or with fire.

  • why can't you do everything....come on!

  • COOL nice job

  • youtube video pls

  • Polska! =D Haha.

  • WHAT??!!

  • hey good joob is cool

  • wow! your preety good at zat, it looks very fun i think im gonna try to learn how to do it.
