hey you are awesome :) well am learning guitar now and i always refer your tabs as you are the best guitarist who plays as linkin park does,i have got a question,in the tab you have given for what ive done it's like 10/8,12/10,15/13 and 5/3,but when i saw in the ultimate guitar page the tabs are like 555/888/333/101010,am confused,can you please tell me what is the exact way to play mike's part in this song? waiting for your reply :)

@24pepperhi I practiced it that way when I was rehearsing to shoot this video (one of the few videos I actually had to rehearse for, I spent about 2 days working on it), but it ended up being a hassle. The microphone stand would've gotten in the way of the camera, it would've meant setting up more gear, getting the volume levels between the guitar, piano, PA system, and my stereo all balanced, and honestly, I'm not very good at singing and playing an instrument at the same time.

i can see why you would do the power chords differently, i can do both the piano and guitar parts to it also, however i still play it the normal way on the guitar, using the

G - 7 - 10 - 5

D - 5 - 8 - 3 - 10

A - 5 - 8 - 3 - 10

D - 5 - 8 - 3 - 10

when i play it, i think its much easier that way than switching between the D and A for power chords

I pretty much always do unless I'm switching from keys to guitar mid-song like this. If I'm doing a song with fingerpicking parts, I'll hold the pick in my mouth when I'm not using it.

Yeah, he has a strip of them taped to the edge of his keyboard. I just don't really need one for this and I think it makes it harder to make the transitions...actually, I could probably play guitar without a pick all the time if I really wanted to.

I'm just trying to help here, but the third octave on the left hand during the verses actually goes up. Mike also plays the left hand an octave lower than you do, but seeing as how your keyboard doesn't have enough keys, there isn't really much to do about it. :P

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. Since he plays it an octave lower and goes up on the third octave, I'm actually playing that octave in the same register he does, it's the other ones that are off.

Also, keep in mind that Mike's keyboard uses pre-programmed samples/sounds, he can make any key play any sound he wants. On In Between for example, he has the note sequence repeat in different octaves so he can change his hand positioning if he wants and still play the same notes.

Since they don't need drop D for neither guitar 1 nor guitar 2, why did they play it in drop D? :/ I mean Brad never uses low E

Well for one, there's a low Eb in the bass part, so that can't be played in E, and they pretty much always match the guitar and bass tunings except for when Phoenix plays a 5-string sometimes. Tuning one string down is easier than tuning 6 strings down. Plus the 4-string powerchords that Mike played on the early live versions are essentially impossible without drop tuning.

Also, remember that Mike never uses his pinky on powerchords, so drop tuning makes more sense for him.

By the way how do you mute when you go back to piano? I mean it's obvious and I see it that you don't have the time to shut the volume or the hands to keep a hand on the strings.

My tuner mutes the sound of the guitar when it's activated, so I just step on that. I do that in a ton of other videos too.

Is it one of those tuners that can be found on pedalboards? Or one of those who can also "simulate" the sound of a variety of amps when connected to a loudspeaker? My band's guitarist has a pedalboard with a tuner and my guitar teacher has this tuner-amp simulator.

Quick question...When they played this at Milton Keynes I noticed that Mike had picks stuck to his keyboard. Did he only do that for this show? And since if he used picks does that mean he did 4 string power chords? I remember I mentioned to you before that he jumped to the 10-10-10 chord a lot in that video and sometimes it looked like his pinkie was extended to play the notes on the G string.

Mike probably uses a pick when he plays this live, I just choose not to. He also jumps around and plays the chords differently all the time now.

Yeah he does use a pick. If you type (In youtube search) Linkin Park Live in new york, you'll see he has a lot of picks standing on the keyboard, under the "keys" on the small space it has.

The mistake is he hit a wrong note when he switched to piano. If you listen closely, it sticks out like a sore thumb. But that's okay, since he openly admitted the mistake and he's a badass.

It's set to regular piano, that's just my keyboard being the piece of crap that it is and not really sounding much like a real piano, haha.

Actually, Phoenix has a keyboard over on his side of the stage that he uses to trigger some of the samples on this intro. It's the only song he does samples on. So some of it is Joe, some is Phoenix, and then the piano and guitar is Mike.

Linkin Park records and releases professional audio recordings of most of the shows they play, including every show they ever played this intro to What I've Done at (January-March of 2008). There are literally almost 30 different recordings of this intro out there, and you can find them easily on a ton of different websites.

Now I'm not a hundred percent sure on this cause he might change it for the live version but i thought on the intro piano part the third chord goes high and then back down unlike the regular verses. I don't know the notes so I'll try to use numbers to show what I mean. You play (2-5-0-7) but the intro to me seems to go (2-5-10-7) and then change in the regular verses. Watch the live at TV total version and you'll see what I mean. Still an awesome video though. It's so hard to change like that
