i havnt tried tf2 yet (on my mac) but when i play every other game, it always crashes! example: when i play eve online and im about to go into the eve universe crossover always crashes! any help? will tf2 work on it? im using a macbook (year old)
I tried running TF2 via CrossOver on my Mac Pro, but it was slow and laggy. I have 2 GB of RAM. What's performance like on better machines? Can you run the game at full graphical quality and large resolution?
I've done all of this, but the game still crashes when things get slightly busy (and the framerate nosedives if I use the spy's cloak etc.)
Also, I can't get it to work in widescreen.
I'm using a 2.4ghz black macbook from last summer, so if anything I should get better performance than you do. It's a shame theories like that never pan out.
thought it would but didn't check, ever since i got my MBP have not used crossover once, think it is better for MB's. I now just use vista bootcamp and steam to play TF2, company of heroes, and left 4 dead. Crossover was perfect for me and that MB i had because of the GFX chip it had with windows didn't really work together for TF2 (for me anyway), the new MB's are much more powerful in the GFX area, and i think you do get a better experience with bootcamp sad to say, just for games that is.
Crossover would actually run better than bootcamp, it's a compatibility program so it doesn't have any resource hogging features that running a full OS through boot camp would.
i have a question about spore actually (my TF2 works fin :D) anywho, crossover supports spore, but, i ask, why? It runs fine on mac alone (yes i know the mac version is emulating the windows version) so would crossover be able to do a better job or something?
I dunno, i would say the mac version would be better then running the PC version in any situation. I think they just add support for it in crossover for people who switched from PC to mac and don't want to buy it again?
yeah its weird, the thing about it is that both versions are on the same disk ^ ^ o well, ill try to install it via crossover and see if there are any performance improvements, thatnks for trying :D
make sure your OS is totally up to date, i would suggest to delete crossover games and start over, may have had a small hiccup when installing?, or even wipe the entire computer if you have a spare HDD. sounds like it could also be faulty RAM maybe, do any other games crash? I currently don't have my macbook to confirm my launch options i sold it for a 2.53GHZ Macbook pro (yay) and once i receive delivery and do my time machine backup i can check.
Cool video. Would all these games work with the new Aluminum Macbooks? Im thinking of getting the high end one, 2.4 ghz. And, if i already have all my game on steam, if i log in on steam using crossover games, will it recognize all my games? Or should i just install windows?
I'm guessing your currently using steam on a PC, you just could use your current steam log on and they games you have should be there to download like normal. The new MB's being 5X more powerful graphically you could run TF2 fantastically and any other corssover games supported games, I have tried the L4D demo on my current MB and it runs but it's un-playable, would be keen to see how the new MB goes. I am probably upgrading mine in the new year i'm thinking it should TF2 on full specs?
what chip and how much ram is in it?, i don't have a choice in choosing the direct X it is set to 8.1 for hardware and 9 for software and i can not change them and all other detail on default.
i run mine at 1280X800, full screen, 16:10 wide screen
just finished playing about 15 games in a row just now and it's all running fine for me.
same as yours and something in crossover is screwed up because it my cores go up 70 percent and last time i checked wineloader is not responding so i think the game lags because of that
I have crossover games, and everything works great, but is regular crossover like cross games with more freedom? ie: if i get crossover instead, will it work just as good as crossover games does?
i think regular crossover is mainly for if you want to run business software i tried it to run a statistical program and it wouldn't run that, i don't think it will run games at all
Would this run better instead of the mac version they have today?!

Oh and my game runs perfectly on my Unibody 13 inch MacBook Pro.
Just had to disable the weather effect to reduce lagging on the ctf_2fort_rainy map but that's no big deal.
Running in Windowed mode and everything only wish the function key could be used as Ctrl key (Crouch)

I think this video showed how awesome TF2 is, Keynote is, and CrossOver is.
I mean look atthe effects in the slide! They look much more professional and clean than that crappy MS Office.
I'm drooling over iWork but is currently using Open Office.

i now run it at 1900X1200 at full detail and it works perfect, using 8 month old mac book pro hooked up to the new apple screen, using bootcamp.

When I load a game, TF2 crashes and quits with no error.
Here are the details:
MacBook white 2.2Ghz 2GB RAM
CrossOver 7.1
TF2 installed, using following launch options:
-novid -window
Tried all different video option combinations, but always crashes, even loading commentary.
When creating a server, shows the opening login screen but freezes.
Suggestions?

do you really need a white macbook or can it be any macbook?

as long as it can actually handle the specs any Macbook should run it, the new ones should shit it in with the new GFX chips they have in them.
