That was some real smooth camera work too! Super impressive getting the close up of the wolf as he crouched and prepared himself. You can actually see his/her ears go back on its head as he props up his hinds.
I have spent only a little bit of time driving through banff and Jasper national parks and I was lucky enough to see a wolf as well. I saw a male by himself on Highway 93. Is it common for wolves to be solitary in the Canadian Rockies?
What an amazing opportunity you had to see nature at its finest. That was a mule deer, not an elk. (You may have figured that out by now.) But wow. How I wish to have been there on that day. Amazing. Being a wildlife lover myself, I love that your son was so excited about this encounter. Hopefully his attitude is not unique amongst his peers.
Our adrenaline was flowing that whole day! We all realize it was a once in a lifetime opportunity we'll never forget. Thanks for the comment about my son, both of my boys share my love for wildlife and nature.
Excellent clip! What a stroke of luck to witness this. People spend months in the wilderness with the hopes of seeing nature like this and it never happens.
hahaha "he's floatin down the river you can turn it off now" that was cool! looks like an awesome place

Very difficult for Elk and Moose to swim in the water as they weigh so much and so this Elk knew he had to swim and yet couldn't swim for very long.

A common tactic used by wolves. They'll keep chasing the prey into the river until it stumbles or gets too numb to run away. Fortunate sighting!
