Gibson players hate to tell ya but the 2010 model epiphone G400 standard 62 Sg is conciderd still to this day to be the best standard Sg out there today. I suggest befor you reply and run your mouth about epiphone do alot of research fisrt.
When top master luthier Michael Voltzs left Gibson and joined Epiphone in 2001 his main goal was to restore Epiphone back to a great guitar company they once were. Today Mike Voltzs has most certainly done that And alot more. Certain models of the Epiphone Sg's and Lp's are of top professional quality and most certainly Gibson every equal And better. And it's Michael Voltzs to thank for that.
@johnhguitar That's some good playing on that Gibson SG! Can you play a Gibson Melody Maker or a Gibson Les Paul Jr or a Epiphone Les Paul Jr or a Gibson B. B. King Lucille or a Gibson Robot Guitar or a Gibson Dark Fire or a Gibson Les Paul Vixen or a Gibson Les Paul Goddess or a Ibanez or a Jackson or a Fender Strat electric guitar?
Part-2 todays Epiphones are so under priced for the top profesional quality they deliver its down rite pathetic. But that will change. Todays Epiphones are being played by top guitarist every day because of the quality they deliver today. EPI 4 Life!
Todays Epiphone G-400 Standard 62 sg's and the Epiphone limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Reissue sg CRAP all over todays Gibson models with out any doubt. For the past 3 years EPI has Crafted the better sg's and lp's EPI's only fall way under priced.

@stratdem Okay we fucking get it! You don't need to make 10 fucking comments saying how much better the epiphone is than this. Go back to playing you epiphone and stop talking shit about Gibson just because you don't have one. And no, you do not need to spend over 100 for this. You can get a used one for about 700-800 in a perfectly good condition

great review but you made a mistake when you played that riff of crazy train, you said tony iommi when he never played this riff. just saying, but otherwise great review, just gotta love how chill your reviews are
How to make Gibson SG at a fraction of the price: Get an Epiphone SG400 for around 300-400 dollars, replace the pickups with Burstbuckers for about 400 more, and you have an 800 dollar guitar. compared to 2000.
hi, i play an epiphone g400 and have been playing 8 months. i would say im at an intermediate standard because i practice LOADS and love doing improvising to blues and rock and jazz etc. i want to save up for one of these "real deal" SGs, but dont know if im ready for one in terms of my ability.
are these pickups on this guitar hotter than the one on the fender american standard hss strat? (THAT ONE IS A FENDER DIAMONDBACK AND THESE ONES ARE 490R AND 498T)
@StratPlayer4Life it smokes the fender usa strat, you don't know how good an sg is until you play one. i think the best description ive ever heard for it is a "tele on steroids" quote some dude im my local music shop. anyway the neck is easier to play right up on the sg, its more resonant, sustains like a mother and the neck is so thin you can bend notes with it. its just a better guitar. only advice i can give is try one for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
@sgbigsby1989 i played one in alpha music the other day, it was nice and i liked the feeling of it, however i just liked the strat better. ended up getting the strat but the sg will deff need to be added to the collection in the future
@Nobasic53 Yeah! I'm on an extremely tight budget and am also wondering whether to get this Gibson SG Standard or Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded. The SG is $400 more, so I don't know
I personally enjoyed this review, particularly for it's natural feel. It touches on the background as well as the thoughts that may run through someone's head if they were to pick up this guitar for the first time themselves.
i actually like the presentation of the review..rather than a slick,bs,rehearsed rap, john just tells it like it is..kinda like speaking in day to day conversation..give the guy a break or do a review yourself
Thank you GretschSounds for your friendly comment.
I imagine myself walking into the Guitar Center and doing things spontaneously. I don't plan what I'm going to say when I walk into a music store. Sure, I make plenty of mistakes. I reveal what I know about a guitar but it's never everything. I'm hoping that people jump in and ad to it, that way we can all learn more about the instrument. When people say something is terrible that's fine but they should explain why they think it sucks.
Can anyone tell me if prs guitars or gibson guitars are better? I've been thinking about getting a gibson sg, but some people at a guitar shop keep telling me prs guitars better and cheaper. I know the cheaper part is true, but are they really better?
Do you think people plan on what their opinions are going to be ahead of time before they play a guitar they might be thinking of buying? This isn't a TV show. Anyone who puts anything on youtube gets smacked and chopped by anybody and everybody. Since this video is worthless why bother. Gibson didn't pay me anything. I just coughed up whatever I could think of. It's just a random spontaneous chat about a guitar. Nothing professional.
Have you got a review about anything I could look at?
john, i just saw ur reply... is it such a big deal to just confirm that theyre 490T and 490R pick ups? i dont think i was asking too much. SO I GUESS THATS THE ANSWER THEN? THEYRE 490T AND 490R PICK UPS? GRRRRRRRRRRR.
Hey john, its me again... thank u for getting back to me.. but i sent u another message, and i dont see it here, so i guess u never got it.... i wanted to know what the official name for the "alnico TRs" is?? i never heard of "alnico TRs" before... can u please let me know??? thanks again..... ~ vincent
Hi john, thank u for getting back to me so soon.. but i never heard of "alnico trs" ? who makes them? and is that their official name? like, burstbucker #3, or burstbucker pro, etc.... please let me know. thank u again. ~ vincent
@publicservant2009 Hey man, they're 498T and 490R pickups. They sound very good and can cover a good range of genres. I've got them in my SG and my Les Paul Custom.
youre really an amazing guitar player no matter what brands and kinds of guitar you use sir... would you mind doing a review with cheaper guitars? not everyone can afford those guitars you played.... how about gregg bennett guitars???
@sgbigsby1989 that's a bit like judging fender's quality based on experience with low end squiers - the only difference is BC rich put the same brand name on the headstocks of guitars in all price ranges rather than using a different name for the cheap stuff. like i said before - BC rich is not just the bronze series warlock. they aren't all pointy and they aren't all cheap junk. do yourself a favour and start thinking rationally.
It's just a boogie riff inspired by John Lee Hooker. ZZ Top's La Grange is like this but this I put together on an acoustic and it doesn't need a band to fill it out. Thanks
@TheJarppidudeson No. it says Rhodes on the walk of fame. they spelt it wrong on that.... please don't try and argue with me on this topic. I'm a very big fan of his so im pretty sure i know
@drgusak depends what you want. they both sound and feel very different, because they are constructed differently, have different scale lengths, different species of wood, different types of pickups etc...
so basically it's the kind of thing you have to find the answer to yourself.
I recently purchased a Gibson SG in Heritage Cherry. Everytime I open the case I get an erection that lasts longer than four hours. Is this normal or should I see a doctor?
@rileydd08 anything! but more rock than anything else. great for blues, jazz, or metal. jimi hendrix used one, AcDc, The guy from system of a down, and its a gibson with humbuckers so it sounds good for jazz
@TheSchoolsux345 im not really considered intermediate level yet but i really like Stevie ray Vaughan, jimmy paige, and keith Richards,(in that order) type of playing so you'd prefer a gibson over a fender strat?
@rileydd08 idk man they all have used fenders, during early zeppelin, Page used a tele. Keiths favorite kind of a guitar is a tele. and stevie ray vaughan used strats, which is kinda similar. I actually think fender is the way to go for you.
johnguitar i was wondering which guitar you think i should buy. a gibson sg standard or an epiphone slash appetite for destruction les paul.i have the money but i dont know which one is better.
hey im thinking of buying a guitar but i want to buy a guitar that I can play Blues hard rock like guns n roses, ACDC, and ska stuff. i don't know if this is a good guitar for playing these styles. what do you think?
@Efforts1 Well, considering there have been countless rock icons that have made this guitar famous (Angus Young - AC/DC, Tony Iommi - Sabbath), the SG "IS THE" guitar that spawned thousands of hits throughout the decades. And for blues.... it's amazing. So your answer is yes, it's been one of the most popular rock/blues guitars for about 50 years.

John man, Ive had a Gibson SG Standard since 2006 in classic white...anyway I have a problem where it's louder on my clean setting and when I hit my MT-2 (distortion pedal) it's not level with the clean sound. I have a Fender American Deluxe Strat HSS that I don't have that problem with. I just got a Fender AVRI Jazzmaster and it has the same problem as the SG. I was wondering if there was any simple thing I could do to fix this besides constantly changing the level on my MT-2 constantly?
i have this guitar. it is absolutetly flawless.

sgbigsby1989 7 months ago

Thanks

Gibson SG or Fender Strat ??
drgusak 1 year ago
@drgusak the fender strat all the the way!
stratdem 1 year ago
@drgusak depends what you want. they both sound and feel very different, because they are constructed differently, have different scale lengths, different species of wood, different types of pickups etc...
so basically it's the kind of thing you have to find the answer to yourself.
Blompcube 1 year ago
i would put a 2010 modol epiphone g400 1962 standard sg
up against the gibson standard sg any day the 2010 modol g400 62 sg's
are simply brilliant!
stratdem 1 year ago
Wow, nice playing! I have a new SG Std on the way! Can't wait to get it. Been wanting it since 1981.... :)

I recently purchased a Gibson SG in Heritage Cherry. Everytime I open the case I get an erection that lasts longer than four hours. Is this normal or should I see a doctor?

wat kind of sound or genre is this meant for
rileydd08 1 year ago
@rileydd08 anything! but more rock than anything else. great for blues, jazz, or metal. jimi hendrix used one, AcDc, The guy from system of a down, and its a gibson with humbuckers so it sounds good for jazz
TheSchoolsux345 1 year ago
@TheSchoolsux345 im not really considered intermediate level yet but i really like Stevie ray Vaughan, jimmy paige, and keith Richards,(in that order) type of playing so you'd prefer a gibson over a fender strat?
rileydd08 1 year ago
@rileydd08 idk man they all have used fenders, during early zeppelin, Page used a tele. Keiths favorite kind of a guitar is a tele. and stevie ray vaughan used strats, which is kinda similar. I actually think fender is the way to go for you.
TheSchoolsux345 1 year ago
@TheSchoolsux345 thnx dude. keep on rockin'

hey im thinking of buying a guitar but i want to buy a guitar that I can play Blues hard rock like guns n roses, ACDC, and ska stuff. i don't know if this is a good guitar for playing these styles. what do you think?
Efforts1 1 year ago
Other people use this guitar for those styles so I guess the answer is yes?
johnhguitar 1 year ago

I don't like the look of myself doing it either but sometimes people are unconscious when they're totally into playing.
Miles Davis said he loved this one particular guitarist that use to get so into it that drool would pour out of the corners of his mouth.
Are you a model?
johnhguitar 1 year ago
@johnhguitar I find myself drooling when I solo on stage, didn't even noticed it. It's because of that damn wah pedal..
