  • i like to play riffs with crunch tones like acdc aerosmith but with a bit more gain. do u recommend the les paul or an sg for this? thanks!

  • @DFMerlino Hell yes! Remember, SG=brighter sound, Les Paul=darker sound.

  • Sloppy.

  • dude is this guitar really worth hte money i want one soo badly

  • What song is he playing at the very begining?

  • When top master luthier Michael Voltzs left Gibson and joined Epiphone in 2001 his main goal was to restore Epiphone back to a great guitar company they once were. Today Mike Voltzs has most certainly done that And alot more. Certain models of the Epiphone Sg's and Lp's are of top professional quality and most certainly Gibson every equal And better. And it's Michael Voltzs to thank for that.

  • @beachhutblues it's always the ones with no videos of their own isn't it...

  • IM IN LOVE ♥♥♥

  • I spent over a thousand dollars on this guitar

    I have no regrets

  • @thethirdrike

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im saving money to this amazing guitar

Good For u :D when I buy it I will not have any regrets like u ♥♥♥♥♥

  • @beachhutblues

I don't give a damn, I'm not arrogant like you are, besides, rock ain't got no guidelines, just saying

  • @beachhutblues

    lets see you do better

  • i cant fucking remember the name of that song from 6:06 plz tell me

  • I Love My Gibson SG Standard With Maestro!!!!

  • So tapping makes him cum?

  • THIS IS HILARIOUS!! So, mute the video, the, start the video and go to about 0:17. And make sure you cover up the guitar with your hand! HILARIOUS!

  • Ever have anyone film you when you're taking a dump and you don't know it? I'm glad I can laugh at this because it's like ,'Is this guy really me?'

  • @johnhguitar That's some good playing on that Gibson SG! Can you play a Gibson Melody Maker or a Gibson Les Paul Jr or a Epiphone Les Paul Jr or a Gibson B. B. King Lucille or a Gibson Robot Guitar or a Gibson Dark Fire or a Gibson Les Paul Vixen or a Gibson Les Paul Goddess or a Ibanez or a Jackson or a Fender Strat electric guitar?

  • @u2fan8117 lol....

  • @u2fan8117 The guy is just having fun. I for one am happy that he can get lost in the music like that.

  • @1013637 Ya, I no. I just find it pretty funny. There's nothing wrong with it, though.

  • Part-2 todays Epiphones are so under priced for the top profesional quality they deliver its down rite pathetic. But that will change. Todays Epiphones are being played by top guitarist every day because of the quality they deliver today. EPI 4 Life!

  • Todays Epiphone G-400 Standard 62 sg's and the Epiphone limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Reissue sg CRAP all over todays Gibson models with out any doubt. For the past 3 years EPI has Crafted the better sg's and lp's EPI's only fall way under priced.

  • This guitar blows dick

  • 5:01 is almost like undead by hollywood undead

  • STOP MASTURBATING YOURSELF 0:03 - 0:16

  • YOU FORGOT ANGUS YOUNG!!!!

  • This is the best review on the Gibson SG Standard on youtube. The other one has a gay guy reviewing it, the other has an idiot that doesnt even deserve a cheap squier, and the other has wierdo who looks like a child molester.

  • ya fly brother, great job so do i but i have a 1990 les paul standard with a Duncan Custom Custom on the bridge and a Duncan 59'er on the neck, i call her Black Betty, but im gettin older i need to go lighter to the SG, had a few includin a 1964 SG white custom, i miss her, nice job son!

  • @18up1000 he comments on every gibson sg video with the same sad tone mistaken crap. g400s suck, i started off with one, then i grew up and got a gibby.

  • Bought one today. Love it!

  • The 2 sg's that are better than the Gibson standard sg's and what i mean by better is tone/tone vesatility/sustain and feel they are the 2010 Epiphone G400 standard 1962 sg. And the limited edition 1966 sg. Enough said.

  • @stratdem Okay we fucking get it! You don't need to make 10 fucking comments saying how much better the epiphone is than this. Go back to playing you epiphone and stop talking shit about Gibson just because you don't have one. And no, you do not need to spend over 100 for this. You can get a used one for about 700-800 in a perfectly good condition

  • Edition 50th anniversary 1961 sg. Gibson standard sg owners with Epiphone it was never a matter of IF it was just a matter of WHEN! Congrats to you Epiphone for Crafting the 2 best sg's today.

  • Usa Consumer report. This is the 2nd year in a row that Epiphone sg's have won out over Gibsons. First was last year (2010) Epiphone G-400 standard 1962 sg was preferd over the Gibson standard sg. And now this year (2011) Epiphone custom shop limited

  • More news my sg friends. A very recent consumer report states that the Gibson Usa Authorized Epiphone sg's are some of the best crafted guitars in the WORLD at any price. I do know this im a epi sg man for life.

  • What i find funny is the gibson standard sg's neck binding is a cheap cream color plastic binding compared to the 2010 epiphone g-400 standard 1962 sg has a nice rose wood neck binding. Can you explain that gibson with out LIEING!

  • SG means...Solo Guitar...

  • You dont have to spend a $1,000 or more for a pro quality made sg. Epiphone has proven that with there 2010 model G-400 Standard 1962 sg. And now the 50th anniversary special 1961 sg. These are top of the line sg's and you dont have to sell your house.

  • Anyone know what kind of pickups those are?

  • great review but you made a mistake when you played that riff of crazy train, you said tony iommi when he never played this riff. just saying, but otherwise great review, just gotta love how chill your reviews are

  • How to make Gibson SG at a fraction of the price: Get an Epiphone SG400 for around 300-400 dollars, replace the pickups with Burstbuckers for about 400 more, and you have an 800 dollar guitar. compared to 2000.

  • i have this same guitar and it sounds beautiful! I would never get rid of my SG and dude this a great video keep doing what your doing! ROCK ON!!!

  • I might get this as first guitar, im 13 im learning how to play, BUT is this good for metal?

  • @dazzerman12 Its a great guitar for ANYTHING. But if you're a Metal only player get an LTD EC-1000, thats a METAL monster!!

  • @dazzerman12 SG's are great for metal. I even play thrash with mine.

  • OMG!

    I love this guitar !

  • what is the song you were playing at 5:01? I've heard it before but i just can't think of what it is!

  • A bit of 'Crazy Train'.

  • @rabozzotheclown crazy train

  • hi, i play an epiphone g400 and have been playing 8 months. i would say im at an intermediate standard because i practice LOADS and love doing improvising to blues and rock and jazz etc. i want to save up for one of these "real deal" SGs, but dont know if im ready for one in terms of my ability.

  • are these pickups on this guitar hotter than the one on the fender american standard hss strat? (THAT ONE IS A FENDER DIAMONDBACK AND THESE ONES ARE 490R AND 498T)

  • hey how does this sg compare to the fender us standard strat? and AWESOME vids btw

  • @StratPlayer4Life it smokes the fender usa strat, you don't know how good an sg is until you play one. i think the best description ive ever heard for it is a "tele on steroids" quote some dude im my local music shop. anyway the neck is easier to play right up on the sg, its more resonant, sustains like a mother and the neck is so thin you can bend notes with it. its just a better guitar. only advice i can give is try one for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

  • @sgbigsby1989 i played one in alpha music the other day, it was nice and i liked the feeling of it, however i just liked the strat better. ended up getting the strat but the sg will deff need to be added to the collection in the future

  • Yes that was Randy

  • Sg and lp feel different. But I think sg standard is better than lp studio

  • Should i get this or the les paul studio?

  • @Nobasic53 Yeah! I'm on an extremely tight budget and am also wondering whether to get this Gibson SG Standard or Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded. The SG is $400 more, so I don't know

  • I personally enjoyed this review, particularly for it's natural feel. It touches on the background as well as the thoughts that may run through someone's head if they were to pick up this guitar for the first time themselves.

Most importantly, you can fucking play!

  • i actually like the presentation of the review..rather than a slick,bs,rehearsed rap, john just tells it like it is..kinda like speaking in day to day conversation..give the guy a break or do a review yourself

  • Thank you GretschSounds for your friendly comment.

I imagine myself walking into the Guitar Center and doing things spontaneously. I don't plan what I'm going to say when I walk into a music store. Sure, I make plenty of mistakes. I reveal what I know about a guitar but it's never everything. I'm hoping that people jump in and ad to it, that way we can all learn more about the instrument. When people say something is terrible that's fine but they should explain why they think it sucks.

  • @johnhguitar Well said. Thank you for showing this to us :)

  • AND OF COURSE ANGUS YOUNG

  • STEP 1 = THINK WHAT YOUR GONNA SAY

    STEP 2 = SAY IT

  • @w0rdisbond if it was that easy i'm sure he would :/

  • haha this guy looks like hes gonna just fall apart like any second cuz moving ariund in his chair like a ragg doll lol but great review man!!!

  • Do you think people plan on what their opinions are going to be ahead of time before they play a guitar they might be thinking of buying? This isn't a TV show. Anyone who puts anything on youtube gets smacked and chopped by anybody and everybody. Since this video is worthless why bother. Gibson didn't pay me anything. I just coughed up whatever I could think of. It's just a random spontaneous chat about a guitar. Nothing professional.

Have you got a review about anything I could look at?

  • @chaosblade188 Only a fag would do that this guy is a guy

  • @chaosblade188 YOU BRAT!!!!!

  • john, i just saw ur reply... is it such a big deal to just confirm that theyre 490T and 490R pick ups? i dont think i was asking too much. SO I GUESS THATS THE ANSWER THEN? THEYRE 490T AND 490R PICK UPS? GRRRRRRRRRRR.

  • Hey john, its me again... thank u for getting back to me.. but i sent u another message, and i dont see it here, so i guess u never got it.... i wanted to know what the official name for the "alnico TRs" is?? i never heard of "alnico TRs" before... can u please let me know??? thanks again..... ~ vincent

  • Look down a few comments to see what someone has called those pickups. Thanks

  • This guitar looks amazing and you are a REALLY good guitarist and love the zz top riff 6:09 :D

  • Great demo! Good product knowledge and you can play too! You forgot to mention, probably the most famous SG player, Angus Young.

  • Hi john, thank u for getting back to me so soon.. but i never heard of "alnico trs" ? who makes them? and is that their official name? like, burstbucker #3, or burstbucker pro, etc.... please let me know. thank u again. ~ vincent

  • @publicservant2009 Hey man, they're 498T and 490R pickups. They sound very good and can cover a good range of genres. I've got them in my SG and my Les Paul Custom.

  • he sooooooooooooo Good wow and i want to buty this Gibson SG to !

  • Hi john, i just wanted to know what exact, pick ups are in this sg on ur video???? please let me know... thank u

  • Alnico TRs....

  • Look at that es-335 on background. :D

  • Hey guys i havee a gibson sg special faded with a hard case and a wah pedal for only $1300 im located in australia victoria

  • Hey what's the song you played at the start LOL JK I hate when people play ridiculously fast like that. What's the point? That's all :D

  • So... Tapping makes him cum?

  • @xxLOLface pretty obvious :D

  • @xxLOLface LOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

  • What's the cube options you're using?

  • youre really an amazing guitar player no matter what brands and kinds of guitar you use sir... would you mind doing a review with cheaper guitars? not everyone can afford those guitars you played.... how about gregg bennett guitars???

  • How much is that?

  • ive got this guitar..my bc rich sounds better

  • @musicus77 matter of opinion

  • @musicus77 your bc rich sounds better? haha good joke :P

  • @musicus77 your bc rich sounds better? haha good joke :P bc ric= PIECE OF SHIT

  • @lpekas BC rich's product range is not just the bronze series. they make some good guitars as well.

  • @Blompcube if you want a pointy guitar made of balsa wood and elmers glue, then yeah bc rich rock

  • @sgbigsby1989 that's a bit like judging fender's quality based on experience with low end squiers - the only difference is BC rich put the same brand name on the headstocks of guitars in all price ranges rather than using a different name for the cheap stuff. like i said before - BC rich is not just the bronze series warlock. they aren't all pointy and they aren't all cheap junk. do yourself a favour and start thinking rationally.

  • its a nice review but dude, PLAY SOME BLUES OR JAZZ! jezus dude, you made the guitar sound like a LP! D:

  • u have da fastest pinkie i hav eva seen!!! lol :D

  • it sounds like someone is taking a shit

  • plan on getting one soon, should be a good addition to my collection(of 2 lol)

  • That MIGHT have been Randy Rhoads? Are you retarded?

  • major misuse of an SG

  • SG > Les Paul

  • It's just a boogie riff inspired by John Lee Hooker. ZZ Top's La Grange is like this but this I put together on an acoustic and it doesn't need a band to fill it out. Thanks

  • хах...торчилла ..чё он курил?))

  • Dude! Looks like your constipated.

  • i think im more amazed by his "screwin around" at the begining than by the actuall guitar itself lol bad ass review though - keep it metal

  • omg not the guitar, he got Tony Iommi mixed up with Randy Roads

  • Wish we could have heard some clean sounds...

  • dumb ass... randy roads?

  • @ShadowseerBand Randy Rhoads* dumb ass.. and he played one too. if you would like a picture of him playing one for proof you can message me back.

  • @TheJarppidudeson im pretty sure its Rhodes* because thats what it says on the mauseleum that he is buried it

  • @TheJarppidudeson No. it says Rhodes on the walk of fame. they spelt it wrong on that.... please don't try and argue with me on this topic. I'm a very big fan of his so im pretty sure i know

  • What pickups are in that baby?

  • donkey shit

  • 0:00-0:16 redneck guitar style.

  • Gibson SG or Fender Strat ??

  • @drgusak the fender strat all the the way!

  • @drgusak depends what you want. they both sound and feel very different, because they are constructed differently, have different scale lengths, different species of wood, different types of pickups etc...

so basically it's the kind of thing you have to find the answer to yourself.

  • i would put a 2010 modol epiphone g400 1962 standard sg

up against the gibson standard sg any day the 2010 modol g400 62 sg's

    are simply brilliant!

  • Wow, nice playing! I have a new SG Std on the way! Can't wait to get it. Been wanting it since 1981.... :)

  • are you used another effect in this clip? only Roland cube amp?

  • Cube only.

  • @IZERAZER the roland cube has 7 boss pedals built in so it has effects in itself

  • 0:07

  • Ok you did a great video but lost all credibility at 5:07 "That might have been Randy Rhodes" WTF Are you kidding me, other than that great video

  • The 61 sg's twice as good

  • wat kind of sound or genre is this meant for

  • @rileydd08 anything! but more rock than anything else. great for blues, jazz, or metal. jimi hendrix used one, AcDc, The guy from system of a down, and its a gibson with humbuckers so it sounds good for jazz

  • @TheSchoolsux345 im not really considered intermediate level yet but i really like Stevie ray Vaughan, jimmy paige, and keith Richards,(in that order) type of playing so you'd prefer a gibson over a fender strat?

  • @rileydd08 idk man they all have used fenders, during early zeppelin, Page used a tele. Keiths favorite kind of a guitar is a tele. and stevie ray vaughan used strats, which is kinda similar. I actually think fender is the way to go for you.

  • @TheSchoolsux345 thnx dude. keep on rockin'

  • Is it possible to get a white SG? I've seen a few but with 3 pickups... I don't like 3 pickups.

  • That Roland is amazing with that,The tone is absolutely delicious I wish I could bite it.

  • and can u tell me what amp you use?

  • Here a Roland Cube 30 but not when I gig.

  • Min 0:00 to 0:17 what was your point?

  • johnguitar i was wondering which guitar you think i should buy. a gibson sg standard or an epiphone slash appetite for destruction les paul.i have the money but i dont know which one is better.

  • @iamthecodofhalo1 SG owns. But in saying that I didn't play the appetite LP yet.

  • @iamthecodofhalo1 well it maters wat kind of music u will be playing on it. if i were u i would get the sg standard

  • he is laughing as if he is getting a blowjob

  • hey im thinking of buying a guitar but i want to buy a guitar that I can play Blues hard rock like guns n roses, ACDC, and ska stuff. i don't know if this is a good guitar for playing these styles. what do you think?

  • Other people use this guitar for those styles so I guess the answer is yes?

  • @Efforts1 Well, considering there have been countless rock icons that have made this guitar famous (Angus Young - AC/DC, Tony Iommi - Sabbath), the SG "IS THE" guitar that spawned thousands of hits throughout the decades. And for blues.... it's amazing. So your answer is yes, it's been one of the most popular rock/blues guitars for about 50 years.

  • @Efforts1 Dude, a les paul won't let you down, you can go from the blusiest of blues to heavy metal.

  • @mark12612 dude i already have one i want something diffrent. if you know a good lespaul (gibson) with good sound but is cheap tell me.

  • @Efforts1 yes if u play acdc than this would be a good choice because angus young one of the guitar players for acdc uses a gibson sg

  • @jaredjohns95 but not a gibson sg standard..

well he does use a standard.. buts its an 1962 gibson sg ebony standard

  • Hey John,

im thinking of gettin the sg standard heritage cherry or the les paul studio fireburst wht u think?

  • A Standard if you can handle the weight. Happy new year!

  • @arjun7000 isnt the les paul studio heavier

checked on gibson site average for les paul studio4.73 lb

    sg standard 4.03lb

  • John man, Ive had a Gibson SG Standard since 2006 in classic white...anyway I have a problem where it's louder on my clean setting and when I hit my MT-2 (distortion pedal) it's not level with the clean sound. I have a Fender American Deluxe Strat HSS that I don't have that problem with. I just got a Fender AVRI Jazzmaster and it has the same problem as the SG. I was wondering if there was any simple thing I could do to fix this besides constantly changing the level on my MT-2 constantly?

  • "Anyways, Gibson SG. There you have it."

  • Damn listening to the sound of this guitar makes me emotional haha! Fucking brilliant sounding guitar, can't wait to grab myself one of these

  • why not showing its sound on the clean channel? ._.

  • how much does it cost

  • I never understood peoples "guitar faces". I play guitar, but i dont orgasm or have muscle spazms in my face or body while i play :P

  • I don't like the look of myself doing it either but sometimes people are unconscious when they're totally into playing.

Miles Davis said he loved this one particular guitarist that use to get so into it that drool would pour out of the corners of his mouth.

    Are you a model?

  • @johnhguitar I find myself drooling when I solo on stage, didn't even noticed it. It's because of that damn wah pedal..

  • @QueefBooger I know what you mean o.O People say I look to serious when I
