  • . This son is very old, reconded by The Dubliners in the 60s and Thin Lizzy in the 70s and Gary Moore and many others, every one very good but for me, the Metallica cover is the best .

  • absolutely amazing i love this cover and love this band rock on james and the boys keep the music alive and the entertainment flowing

  • Thin Lizzy

  • Who the hell would've thought anyone would take an old Irish folk tune and make it loud and raucous? Sweet cover!

  • @Seattlecarnut dude.... the Irish are loud and raucous to start with

  • @SuperJosephVincent Are they?

  • @Seattlecarnut last time I checked yeah....

  • @SuperJosephVincent My favourite Irish band is U2, although I'm sure there are others worth listening to.

  • @Seattlecarnut there is... Dropkick Murpheys and Flogging Molly are defiantly worth the listen

  • @SuperJosephVincent I'm not familiar with those groups. I'll have to check them out.

  • I absolutely LOVE this song! ♥♥♥♥♥

  • this is better than any other version that i have heard..

  • The original version was by an Irish folk band named The Dubliners which began in the sixties. This is one of my favorite songs. I prefer the original version by far, though.

  • @Jofobifojo its older than that. It's been sang for like hundreds of years. I sing it at civil war re-enactments.

  • @bullyboy1863 Thanks, but I know that now. I've been listening to Celtic music for a while now, and I learned a lot about their history.

  • WOW way to ruin a classic song metallica!

  • Thin Lizzy!

    Yo Phil - R.I.P.

    °|~Jo

  • Great version, you folks do realize this song is probably 200 years old? lol Seriously.

  • cool song

  • well guys, dont be angry to other. listen to "vagabounds of the western world" by thin lizzy. shut your eyes and listen to. you might think it is metallica.

lizzy was 1970 metallica is today, but they are not really different.

  • well, I think this is better than the original.

  • fucking hell! this is amayzing!

  • imo this is the best cover ever. metallica are one of the greatest bands at taking a song, and making it their own

  • la intro de este tema te pone de la put apenas oyes 3 acordes... grande la fuerza de la historia, un pelicula gringa en todo el sentido de la palabra. balas, sexo, alcohol, autos, carcel.... y un rock que suena hasta la medula.

grande metallica! i saw you!!! (lima, 18 enero 2010)

  • James should grow his hair out... But I bet the wife made him cut it LOL.

  • metalica does an amazing cover but its no where near as awesome as thin lizzy

  • Comment removed

  • Well you gotta give Thin Lizzy some credit for writing a great song but Metallica in my opinion played the song much better.

  • actually Thin Lizzy didn't write the song.

it is an old irish song and since the 195's it has been covered by many bands. including Thin Lizzy and metalica

  • feel sorry for your bad music knowlegde kid haha Garage Inc. is a cover album. nothing off it is theirs. But Metallica still rule the universe. \m/\m/

  • Metallica forever! LOVE YOU!

  • can't a sick band make a sick cover anymore without internet ppl talking shit?

  • @capinbakslap Lol finally someone had the balls to say it. Bravo sir! You win +1 internetz

  • yep this is better. all the other that thinks different are fags :)

  • I listen to both, they're both good, shut the hell up people. Listen to what you want. Jesus.

  • does it matter which one is better? Metallica fans can listen to this, Thin Lizzy fans can listen to theirs, if you don't like it, don't listen.

  • says you. the grammy jury says that metallica version is better (that's why metallica gained Grammy Award for this cover version in 1998)

  • Sad that the only way they can get a Grammy is covering a song. Oh well.

  • @Wolliom erm, they've had a bunch of grammys xD

  • lame troll is lame.

just so you know, metallica have 7 grammy awards besides the one for whiskey in the jar

  • metalica is beast as hell get pwned

  • only metallica

  • Good, but the original is better

  • stfu. who gives a fuck?

  • Dont havea go at me mate. I never said this was bad. in a fact its awesome. I just prefer thin lizzies

  • MetallicA FOEVER!!

  • @andrewtobey420

If you think they suck, you have no taste in music.

  • wtf the suck? the are great you suck bro

  • suckers metallica is awesome :o

    and it's irish ( Dubliner's)

  • this is the newfoundlanders song my province my home

  • I hate metal in general, but I make a clear exception for this awesome cover. I'd like to see more folk stuff metallized.

  • excellence!

  • AGUANTE METALLICAAAAAAAA!

  • You know a song is good when the cover is as good as the original

  • I love this song it rocks!

  • irish pride

  • for some reason this song reminded me of pirates

  • logical.

  • Immer wieder geil !!!!!!!

  • Shit people. quit complaining and enjoy this awesome song. Sit down, have a drink, and listen.

  • i like your idea of a good time. :D

then again, if drinking is involved, i'll most likley enjoy the plan.

    :D

  • @jake92195 i so agree with u man

  • good song

  • You know you have an awesome song when it's covered by Metallica

  • best song that metallica i think in my opinion is the best {dont give me hell for posting my opinion}

  • no idea, but its a cover of an irish folk song, which was first covered by thin lizzy :P

  • (for that matter) Wait a minute. Thin Lizzy is an Irish Band¿¡ Next thing you'll be telling me is so is Dexy Midnight Runners, Cranberries, and U2.

  • the Irish secretly run the world. Dont tell anyone

  • no they don't. it's the canadians. D:

  • its Irish.

  • @dandeexxxx It's both Irish and Russians

  • Omg.. How can people not think this is a cover?

It's been an Irish Folk Song since the 17th Century... Of course it's a cover ¬_¬

    Epic Though =D

  • well, if you put it THAT way, then folk metal bands are just cover bands

  • i do beleave yall are fucken retarded and need to enjoy the music and stop trippen on whare it came from

  • To be honest, I never liked Thin Lizzy's version. But hell, quite a few of the songs 'tallica has covered I didn't like the original, but loved the cover itself.

Metallica turns old and worn songs godly again.

  • metallica does it the best, no dought

  • i love it all times

  • to be honest i think its good when either luke kelly, thin lizzy or metallica :D.. but thin lizzy is my favourite and they made that unreal riff:).. and it wasnt wrote by luke kelly its around since the 1800s:P lol

  • yes it is you idiot, it was originally done by luke kelly

  • Metallica are gods.

  • yes this is a cover

  • this is better than the original in my opinion

  • nativebrat says ya good love makin tune ya metallica i love ya................. thanks

  • best cover of whiskey in the jar

  • i like all versions. it that okay by all yous?

  • You are ALL idiots. This song isn't from the 50's or 60's..... This song is covered as much as"Knockin on heavens Door" and was believed to be written in the 1700's. Thin Lizzy brought it out of traditional folk style and did it in fine fashion..Metallica put a nice harder edge to it... But the Dubliners who started recording it in the 60's shoud be given credit for bringing it mainstream...

  • i knew it wasnt from 50s 60s originaly, that it was much older. but didnt expect 1700s. thanks for the info, dude

  • The only reason I knew what I knew was I researched it for St Patricks day and have seen about 20 different versions from as early as the 30's when sound entered the movie era and it was sung in some big movies.... But appeciate The covers from TL, Metall, and the Dubliners for the folksy sound.... I love Celtic music...

  • this is the best cover of whiskey in the jar!

  • this cover is better than the original in my opinion.

  • definately the thin lizzy version is shit lol

  • stats are way off bud. Today's youth listens to rap and beats on a computer. alot of middle aged to young adult men and women haven't pulled there head out of there ass and still listen to metallica all day long.

  • Happy St Patricks Day!
