  • So you can have a distorted signal, and not clip, but is it possible for the signal to be clipped, but not distorted?

  • FAKE.

Or so I thought (no offence to you, Steve).

I decided to try it myself... I downloaded the file, played it through my music player, and noticed there is a ~-36db 3khz tone in there via spectrum view.

Hooked up my dd-1 just to see for my self and sure enough: got the same results as in the video.

    DD-1 for life!

  • Just ordered mine cant wait till it gets here!

  • Maybe it's just got messed up

  • That's pretty impressive. Looking at the scope, is the distortion shown as the little flickering along the edges if the line?

  • I got the DD-1 it's amazing now it's time to get the CC-1. :-)

  • Very good :D

  • I just ordered this two days ago. Should be here tomorrow hopefully! I have a few questions about it though. I have a 4 channel amp powering my 2 front door components and my 2 rear door coaxils, but my dash speakers are being powered by the head unit. When I find the distortion on my head unit is this going to damage my dash speakers at all? Because I REALLY don't feel like unhooking them. It's a bitch.

  • So, was this a problem or a good thing? I really didn't follow very well.

  • @dereileak Clipping and distortion are two completly difrent things. clipping is cutting off audio. distortion is just bad audio.

  • @tvandiepen1 yea, but if its clipping, it is technically distorted, as the signal is not normal

  • so the dd-1 must put the distortion light on when it clips because clipping is distortion, so really the dd-1 is getting clipping and distortion, and clipping happens after distortion by a little so you never have a clipped signal when set with this, I think that makes sense, all I know is I set my system with this thing, got rid of alt noise, made everything tight, bass, mids, tweets all hit harder then hell now, I had that issue on mine a bit, the distortion light was on a lot, but found da pr

  • If this isn't clipping then what sort of distortion is it detecting? I mean technically a simple change in volume is "distortion".

  • How much does 1 of these costs

  • i have ben doing wireless comm. for more than 10 years and use these anilizers everyday they dont lie. the last one we purchases was 25 grand or so. and u can c the distortion the wave line has divits in it turn up the dbm sensativaty and it apears a lil better but if the DD1 seas it at any levle f***ing awsome. the DD1 is the next best thing for all u dipshits that think u can hear it (AAA i ccaannn heeeaarr it maaaannn.) Dumbass!!! Love it Steve Basonmyfriends.

  • keep up the good work made grettings from sarajevo

  • Very Interesting!

  • Don't complain because the video doesnt have any bass, its an educational video. I got myself an old oscope the other day. I shall be wanting to use it, so I thought distortion/clipping was sound wave that was not round at the top like it showed on that oscope. Can i come hang around you guys at the lab? haha I'd love to learn more than what I know now. Ive learned some cause of my classes at college but not enough! My skull is thick, i need it beat into me. lol

  • lol down to 1% THD 1% THD is pretty audible, bro. Well, maybe not on subs but on mids+highs 1% is readily apparent to anyone with ears that aren't totally fucked.

  • @donbehatin I can make it detect to 0.1% or 0.01% or whatever we need it to do. The problem is we are trying to detect when the amplifier starts to distort for gain setting purposes. Many, many mobile amplifiers are over 0.5% at any level!!! Esp Class D

  • @nismotony This is very true. Amps aren't made as clean as they used to be...

  • @Shaazzaarr i unsubscribed you. I dont want to be a burden to you anymore. Thanks.

  • bought the DD-1 & CC-1 pack today! Cant wait 2 get them and do it like a boss!

i'm watching all your videos steve and you r the fucking best dude!

keep it up 4 all the bassheads out there!

    greets from germany!

  • @basti854 right on man thanks bro!!! your combo pack will go out this week when the CC-1s are ready. By wednesday, thursday at the latest. Thanks! :)

  • @meade916

can i get an autograph pls? :)

  • Nice video!!!!

  • boring

  • @sheiry1 good. LOL -

  • @sheiry1 you just dont know what your looking at

  • Obviously, Steve has to promote the D'aMore Engineering products in his channel! After all, this products will bring him a lot of money in the future. Its called business!

  • Distortion can only be seen with a high resolution scope. Check out picotech website for some examples. The DD-1 is no joke, it's a precision instrument.

  • :)

  • Thanks for the information :) . However, where is Meade?.

  • @agentindy im here. Tony and Juan are the engineers behind OUR product. I promote OUR product on my page. If you had over 100,000 subscribers and a product like ours, wouldnt you? ;)

  • wheres the bass?!?!

  • @afr126 out in your car probably, go bump some shit for me bro!! :)

  • @meade916 ill go bump in ur honor!! :D

  • @meade916 Damn. Thats real humble of you bro.

  • Fuck yeah!

  • "A STINKING ROBOT" lol

  • @DAmoreEngineering sorry put DE instead of DA

  • @DEmoreEngineering no eq in my ride. It must be my headunit. Is it possible I can run in to this problem again after I replace it? If so what can I do? Thanks

  • Remember the days when Meade would post car audio fabrication videos? Me either, it's been so long since there's been one.

  • @TheMarkVaughn sorry, i am busy. Not really sorry though lol - but very busy.

  • @meade916 glad your staying busy. i really enjoy your vids. but you haven't done anything in a while we can learn from lately. i kind of miss it

  • @casper55117 ya i have, i am showing you how to set your amps up properly now. If you dont learn from video's like this one here, then i dont know what to tell you. Even if you dont buy our product, you should take SOMETHING from what i just showed you.

  • @meade916 not exactly what i meant. i see what you are doing and i think its awesome. ive learned a lot from you but what i meant is to talk about a more technical aspects of it. like how crossovers work. what causes distortion, but thats just me. on a side note i will be posting a vid soon about my amp was hoping maby you could take a look at it and tell me if there is anything i can do about the rattle. from what i see your the man when it comes to rockford stuff.

  • TLDR: the $150 DD-1 Out performs a $800 Oscilloscope simply because the human eye can not detect small amounts of distortion on an Oscilloscope readout.

  • why are there so many dislikes?

  • this is one of the easiest ways and the best tool for setting gains if your into car stereo definitely get one of these. i have set my gains fast with this tool. keep making more stuff steve these tools are changing the way people in the car audio world work.

  • Well what are you supposed to do if it says "Distortion" all the time like it did there?

And how do check for clipping?

  • @SenorDennis If it is showing distortion all the time then something in the audio system is distorting the signal. Either the headunit, line level converter, line driver, eq, electronic crossover, DSP... all of these things could cause it.

  • @DAmoreEngineering Does the DD-1 detect clipping?

  • @SenorDennis Yes! The Distortion Detector (DD-1) measures distortion. Clipping is a form of distortion, by measuring the harmonic distortions we can detect clipping as well. This is the best way to detect clipping.

  • i love my dd-1. i use it on all my amps and friends if they want.

  • all this shit to to complicated for me!!..haha keep all this mad genius shit up!!

  • people stop hating just cuz its not a bass video!!

  • @meade916 this is the same thing that happend to me when I was setting my gains with the dd1. My buddy used it in his car and had no problem. Whats up with that?

  • @CYCOMiko81 this means something in your system is distorting the signal. Either your headunit, line output converter, or eq if you have one.

  • Thinking of going from a 12" and 500 watt system to 2 15"s and over 1200 watts this summer. Only problem is I don't know much about audio... But If I do I will be getting this to get my gains set properly.

  • Looks like there's some high frequency noise on that sine wave, which is probably what the DD-1 is picking up. Perhaps alternator noise on the system in the car?

  • @Maxxarcade The vehicle wasn't running when this was filmed. I understand what you are seeing in the waveform though and I believe it to be the just the resolution or pixelation of the LCD display. The frequency of the distortion is a harmonic of the fundamental.

  • if anyone can be bothered,

please look at a quick video of my stock VL and tell me what you think

    /watch?v=E3FN8LSAfeM

  • So the sound was recording from the car and it showed distortion?.. something isn't clocking for me here. Why record the sound FROM the vehicle and then look at it on the O-scope and DD1?

I mean it's not that shocking that a signal that was recorded from a car shows distortion.. after all it's pretty much been "passed" around twice. Care to enlighten me about it? Not really sure what the video was getting at. Even though I know the DD1 is a great device, I don't see what the vid is trying to say

  • @bassboylowg this was "recorded" at the output of the amplifier, electrically. The cause of the distortion is not alternator noise. The cause is a cheap line level converter (high level converter) , the same type most people have.

  • @DAmoreEngineering Oh ok, that makes A LOT more sense. Thanks for the clarification man. At first I was like, wtf ofcourse it's going to show distortion. Keep up the great work, these products are off the hook as they say!

  • @bassboylowg Thanks man!!

  • i just got my DD1 yesterday and the first car i used it on at work did that same thing on the 4ch amp. if this is a problem with the cd/track its self how do i fix it?

  • @luckynmbr13 sounds like something in the signal chain of that car is distorting the signal. (headunit, line level converter, eq.. all these are suspect)

  • the dd1 looks like an amazing product! even though I have access to an oscilloscope, I look forward to buying a dd1 in the future because of its pure simplicity!

  • What is a DD1 detet that a oscope does not?

  • @Tanneri18 Harmonic distortion

  • I use the DD-1 to measure RMS wattage output from my amps (see some examples on my channel, more to come). Has anyone priced a THD analyzer lately? The DD-1 is a multi-function tool and well worth the asking price! I look forward to upcoming SMD / D'Amore Engineering tools!

  • @bigdwiz glad you are happy and thanks for the compliment! :)

  • I love my dd-1 I have older guys asking me a 16 year old to set their gain lol

  • @javiderek31 that is f#cking awesome bro!!

  • @meade916 can you plz upload a bass video or something ?

  • Can't believe people are disliking this video simply because it is not a bass video. Guys, he can't do bass vids all the time. He has to vary it up, so he can keep this channel interesting for everyone. If he does many bass vids all at one time, people complain. If puts some ISF and DD-1 vids in too, people will also complain. He can't please everyone, but does his best to try by changing it up here and there. He has to keep this channel fresh, with out the same old stuff. Interesting video!

  • @bhavinparmar90013 If the trolls dont get what they want they dislike and leave its a shame its steves channel and I personally find everything he posts entertaining

  • It would be useful to setup my loud ass system.. Loving my boss amp...

  • BEAST! IM WATCHING BEFORE 300 VIEWS!!!!!

  • very nice wish i had one

  • what radio was that so i know not to buy one. EVER! lmao

  • Dont FUQn Dislike SMD

  • So when will you have a device that will help me with clipping? I set my amp with a dd1 already..

  • @eazyez29 ***palms own forhead*** FYI: the dd-1 will light up if clipping is in the signal but not because its clipping....because at that point, if you are clipping, its also distorting.

  • @meade916v2 Ok geez.. I guess the description confused me a bit stating that it doesn't detect clipping, but distortion. I just want to make sure I've got a clean signal & not clipping OR distorting..

  • @eazyez29 if you used a DD-1, then you are good to go. Thanks man! :)

  • you would see that on an analog o-scope more clearly

  • @audiogamer yea but who uses analog anymore

  • @BassPounderX i do

  • @audiogamer so do it. We will have the track available and you can compare and see exactly the same thing we just showed LOL.

  • @meade916v2 it wont be exact, but very similar, i agree. the convenience factor makes the dd-1 better, have you seen the size of an analog o-scope.. i mean come on!

  • @audiogamer thats reason #13 hahah - the speed of getting the job done is definitely a plus for our product. :D

  • @audiogamer the track is in the description bro...download it and put it on your scope - send me a pic or make a video of what your wave looks like.

  • @audiogamer rubbing it in i see =(

  • I really want to get one of these. My system is nothing special, Just 2 12s and of course new door and 6x9's speakers, They are pricey but they seem totally worth it now.

  • I WANNA SEE MORE BASS MAN !!!

  • i want some of that dd1 greatness, but it would help if i even had a system, :( im stock

  • Hey steve, I don`t speak english very well, but I love your systems, do you wanna come to 40.000watts in your car system, do you understand me?? Thanks and congratulations for your SMD Distortion Detector.

  • nice, ridiculously accurate :)

  • dope
