  • that does not look like any reliant I have ever seen

  • blizzaks anyone?\

  • Road salt is useless below -1c it doesnt work believe me i have tried , even more useless on hard packed snow. This guy is cleary just mucking about though doesnt help that he is driving a front FWD with an Auto box.

  • you can push him? LMAO

  • Should of had a snowmobile to tow you up that damn icy hill. And, for the car industries, try to get tires on ALL veihcles that can be used all the time and specially for WINTER!! All season tires that can "chew" their way through ice, and for rain there will be no more hydroplaning. And, for the exteriors of cars, trucks, ect. make rust resistant body parts. It dose sound far fetch but whoever knew that what we have today was ever possible??

  • must have snow tires though

  • There's your problem right there...... it's a Plymouth Reliant!!!

  • Sand on the ice is a good trick.

  • AKA Chrysler K-Car :\

  • dude just get one tyre on the snow. if theres grass under there yll get much better traction and get into as high gear as possible

  • @folta1 It's a older car, keeping one tire on the snow probably won't help. I doubt it has limited slip, positive traction, or anything else. All it would do is spin with the tire that's on the ice, not with the tire that's getting traction on the snow.

Dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but that's my guess.

  • @justinlynch3

    One wheel peel. LoL

  • Hm tried to back up the car. That's was inteligent. You should get some basketball player sitting in the back so you would get more weight...

  • maby if you put some ice cleats on like for ice fishing drop the camra and get a friend you could push him up the hill

  • aww poor girl

  • anyone ever heard of road salt???? problem could have been solved in no time

  • we dont use it up here, thank god...no rust. plus we have a dirt driveway so if you did that it would be a muddy mess. also salt doesnt work well below 20F which is stays much below that most of winter.

  • well that makes sense lol, they finaly started using a mixture of sand and salt here, so it's not as bad as it used to be, but i feel ya with the rust thing, man it sux up here in canada lol. thanx for the reply. ps we used to own the dodge aries version of that car, ours was an 81 though.

  • @ak96 well you could of drove a jeep too. and throw ashes down for traction.

  • "One of the lights is, in the back".

    Does it matter, really?

  • The cops can pull you over for everything that's not ok with the car.

    And they will.

  • I cannot tell you how often I see people driving cars with smashed headlights, drive right by a cop. I don't see a cop caring about a reverse light, especially considering its not both of them out. But, I could understand if one lives in an area where cops are more "vigilant" (or anal) why you would want to be extra careful.

  • you're lucky he didn't slide right into you.

  • Those old K cars....they were reliants alright..you could rely on them to fail!!

  • they didn't fail at all they saved chrysler from bankruptcy in 1981 and continued to do Chrysler well from 1981-1989

  • "one of the lights is out, in the back" ?

wtf o rly, he's using reverse gear there

  • yes, and one of the reverse lights is out. what is so "wtf o rly" about that?

  • some guy asked why he has white light also on the rear, but he seemed to delete the comment.

  • is your car a manual??? i have one of these with a 5spd trans and cant find anyone else with one of these cars

  • I dont think many of them survived more than 4-5 years.. The majority of them had really bad transmissions (the autos did) and the bodys rusted most of time as well as the engines were kind of crappy. All in all, the car really sucked. Yours might be one of the good ones (if cared for)... most of the reliant K were like shopping at K mart..... you neve know what youll get.

  • its called put the camera down and push

  • U probably didnt NOTICE how PURE ICED that driveway had been sheeted over with? No human ,Animal or Nomal Tired Vehicle would get ANY TRACTION on that surface-How does CANADA laws regard **TIRE CHAIN KITS**?(Look up JC WHITNEY & COMPANY =)P...Had very useful stuff B4 could order online) Now, states made those TIRE CHAIN KITS-> ILLEGAL>=( everywhre else in United states cause Steel Cleats on tires chews up our roads-To hell with the roads if U getting STUCK RIGHT NOW-Better get a old FULLTIME 4WD

  • agreed with etherialcruser.

  • Extrem glatt , da geht nix mehr

  • Keep roasting the tires, you'll get it out.

  • A good trick with icy hills and front wheel drive, is to try and back up them...the weight transfers onto the rear set of wheels going up a hill

  • yeah because everyone knows rear wheel drive on ice works great

  • Rear engine rear wheel drive works great, front engine rear wheel drive sucks

  • @nakabar

Yeah it does work awesome. Its called snow tires, lsd and WEIGHT on the rear axle. pretty simple. Good luck weighing down your fwd. bowrofl

  • @mi16t Yeah, snow tires, which not everyone can afford, a rear LSD, which not all vehicles are equipped with. Rear wheel drive is inferior to front wheel drive in winter conditions. I should know, I drive a RWD vehicle in a place that has snow on the ground 8 months of the year. Unfortunately for you and your ill conceived insult, my vehicle is also equipped with 4x4, take your good luck and shove it.

  • @nakabar

You can't afford $50 a tire? umm wow, how can you afford gas?

Again, weight is free, go get some bricks or rocks LOL, the only reason rwd sucks is because the ass is light, which is a free fix.

If you honestly can't afford $50 a snow tire, then I strongly suggest you stay off the roads, because the rest of your car must be in appalling nick

  • You stupid ignorant prick. Be my guest and point out a place where a 50 dollar snow tire that's actually effective can be acquired. Then, let me borrow your tire changing machine or extra set of rims. In the real world, snow tires are around 100 dollars each, plus the cost of getting them put onto new or old rims. So no, not everyone has the better part of a grand lying around to be spent on an extra set of tires.

  • @nakabar

Ok! Pacific Mall, located in Markham, Ontario.

Nexen and Kumho Snows, $50 a piece in 14 and 15" 195-205. $25 to mount onto a rim and dismount old rubber.

    $200 + $100 = $300.

ok. 100$ a tire where you live. $25 per mount.

So lets recap, thats $400 for four tires and 100$ for mounting. Thats $500, half a grand, not the "better half of"

    LOLUMAD

  • @mi16t

Also if that fails, Check craigslist and Kijiji where you can get decent snows WITH rims for a ballpark of $350 to $400.

But hey, ignorance is bliss, so go to Canadian tire or something. BOWROFL

  • As I have already told you, I don't need your fuck head advice. You get the snow tires, Ontarians are the worst fucking drivers in all of Canada, you probably need them more than I do, because as I was saying, I drive a 4x4. I would be fine with summer tires, but all seasons work quite well. Although, while I'm running 2x4, there is a lot of slippage. However, I don't feel the need to take your bullshit 'wisdom' seriously, because who honestly wants to fill their trunk with a bunch of bullshit?

  • Comment removed

  • I don't need the tires, and I don't need the weight, I was simply weighing in on the fact that by itself, rear wheel drive in the winter is not all that great. Which you can't even argue with, so piss off now.

  • Comment removed

  • sand bags in the trunk of a front wheel drive car doesnt help at all, it actuly hurts your traction.

also i had put down about 200lbs of sand on the driveway before the filming.

  • That's why you gotta put some sands bags in the trunk. More weight =more traction and you can threw down some of the sand to help get traction.

  • yeah, the car was NEVER floored, and i was in second every time going forword..these things have such a hard gas pedal and it had blad summer tires and the driveway was like a hot mopped icerink. allthough i had put gravel out it didnt help.

giving it any gas made it spin, and after starting on high idle just putting it in gear it would spin with no gas given.

  • Last part of the video-U**ALMOST MADE IT** to top of the driveway,If U had kept going up & down driveway like that...Looked like U was wearing a PATH DOWN through that ICE skating rink that used to be a driveway!

  • oh...by the way....the best way to drive this car on ice, if you have to. is drop it down to 2nd or 1st gear and "do not" accelerate fast enough to skid the tires......"flooring it" on ice will get you no place. I have an 89 K car

  • lmfao. what happens when you get out of the drive way.

  • just so you know "all season tires" mean there great in all seasons .. not the snow or ice .. there just a name to get you to buy them in the winter .. just for reference

  • yeh, all season tires are kind of a hybred. The tread is more agressive than a regular tire...but less agressive than a snow tire. "All season tires" are definately better in snow than regular tires. They are really a "compromise"

  • yeah basically you still get screwed lol

  • why didnt you just give it a lil push and some speed from the car...then slam on the brakes...the car would get out by itself =D

  • I liked the proper demonstration of the "reverse 180" when he was sideways on the hill. Otherwise, sliding sideways or backwards at an angle is a great way to hit things!

  • ease the throttle and you'll be out

  • does it have traction?

  • Yes.

  • why is my comment bad. all i said was does it have traction. nothing bad

  • Only reason U got bad comment for "does it have traction?" is obvious- theres no way that car was NOT GETTING TRACTION on a driveway that could pass for miniture Ice Skating rink

  • Nice looking K car!!

  • Thank god, that the traction control exist!

  • I had a Chrysler RELIANT-Those dont have TRACTION CONTROL-Hell,those cars was made sooo cheap,U could walk past rear without stopping and PULL on tail-lenses of those cars AND lenses pop right off-THATS THROW AWAY CAR definition right there

  • *continuation of below post*

Big dent in the right front fender, shoved the dash to the left a bit and cracked the window. Car was totaled of course but it still ran and drove, the dented fender did kinda run on the right front tire though. I drove it to a junkyard and sold it for 50 bucks. I miss that old thing *sigh*

  • *continuation of below post*

The body was in beautiful shape though and the interior was surprisingly clean. Mine didn't have any options but it did have neat little fold-out map light things on the sun visors. It would blow big ol' clouds of oil smoke when ti fired up but didnt seem to burn much oil while it was driving. One stormy day in the winter with my brother in the car it got clipped by an 18 wheeler.

  • I had an 88 Reliant LE, traded an incredibly rusted 81 Fairmont with a 255 V8 and a bad 3 speed automatic for it. Wiring harness was messed up, so to start it I had to turn the key to the run position then get under the hood and cross a couple wires to start it! The engine was noisy as hell and it only ran on 3 cylinders. The transmission was bad and it always ran out of gas at the half tank mark.

  • Is this ReliantK?

    Reliant LE?

    Reliant SE?

  • What year was this video taken?

  • umm..it was taken a few weeks ago, febuary 2008

  • haha, sorry man, that K-car looks to be in top condition for a late 80s car.

  • yeah its a '87 with 35k miles...came from the goverment got it for $850 :)

  • Any place that **DONT USE SALT ON ROADS** is going to have good bodyied 1980's back cars & trucks with-out much RUST-Dont expect a vehicle body to Survive 5-10 years if keep it OUTSIDE anywhere in East Coast-SALT? Shii-iiAT, We can do 1 better. Combine that Salt WITH ACID RAIN >=0

  • I live in Montreal, Canada and they put salt in the streets, but I've had well maintained 15 years old cars with no rust. Washing it often and rustproofing help a lot. It's true that they only last 5-10 yrs if they're abused.
