When I think about the 91 National Champion, I honor Washington. Miami was a luck team that didn't deserve a share of it. They should have lost to FSU, and people forget that BC almost upset them a week later. The Huskies would have beat the heck out of that Miami team. That team and the 04 Trojans are the two best in that conference's history.
@sptrfn you got good points..but 1972 USC Trojans were pretty damn good themselves. I think they need to be in the same sentence as 1991 Wash and 2004 USC.
I've been watching pac10 football since 1984 and am aware of the teams that were great in the leageu since its inception in 1978, and I can say yes, the 1991 UW team was the best I have seen, mainly becaus they were so balanced and so good on both sides of the ball, and having DJ as your coach also doesnt hurt. Only the SC teams of 1978-79 and of 2004-2005 would belong in the same conversation with them. 600 yards in Lincoln?: Get outa here. Ripping Desmond howard & Mich in the rose? Unreal.
the 91 Huskies are ABSOLUTELY in the conversation of the best team in PCC / Pac 8 / Pac 10 history. that was a VERY good football team, they wouldve crushed the 2010 Ducks or the 2004 Trojans, especially the Ducks. look what a pathetic auburn defense did to that trick play Ducks offense .... what the hell would one of the best defenses in college football history done to them ???? because of how good the Huskies defense was, people forget they had a VERY good offense as well, over 40 ppg.
There have been so many great teams that have played college football. The 1991 Huskies should be top 5 all time, but no matter where they rank the great teams of all time, it's an elite list to be on that will always be debated. It's very hard to pick the greatest college team of all time, just like the greatest college player by position, heisman winners and so forth. BTW, the 1991 Huskies would have easily beaten the 1991 Canes if there was a BCS Title Game back then. For the Record.
Huskies won Hoberts second career start In Nebraska's home stadium by 15. Every single win over a team that finished the season in the top 25 was on the road. Every one.
The were second in the nation in both points allowed per game and points scored while playing the nations 8th ranked schedule.
At least the media (ESPN, and sports writer for news papers in the pac-10 region) ranked 1991 Washington Huskies as the best team in the Pac-10 era as Pac-12 official starts. I tend to think they've watched enough football over the past few decades to have pretty good idea.
@glencoe428 Offensive power?? You mean gimmick, and a reason they will never win it all. every time they run into a team that plays good team defense(91 huskies) they embarrass themselves, and in bowl situations the pac 10
@glencoe428 UW has been bad for several years now...but that is not the topic. Are the 91' Huskies the best team in Pac - 10 history / would they hold up with "todays offensive power that oregon has" is. It is impossible to compare teams with decades seperating them because of rule changes ect, ect. So all you can go by is the numbers. 12-0 record, avg win 31+ ppg, D gave 9.5 ppg, O scored 41+ ppg. 1 game decided by single digits(24-17) at #7 Cal. =91' UW among the top 5 college teams EVER .
All the freshman and sophmores from the 1991 Miami and Washinton teams played in the Whammy in Miami in 1994... who took that one!??!? Thats right baby!! :)
No doubt the best defensive team in the history of the Pac-Ten...I would love to see them vs. the USC or Oregon teams that were so explosive offensively this past decade. I remember we were so dominant that Arizona punted on third down- I have not seen that since.
Ipodtouch251..where did it say that was a 1991 Washington game? Could it possibly be refering to what the announcer is saying in the video? Do you just comment on videos without thinking? Hmmmmm.
@Ipodtouch251 You are a dumbass he was refering to what the announcers were saying. And u said *unracked* and you used *where* insted of *were*. I would guess you are a duck or a coug.
The Washington Huskies of 91 may be the best team in pac-10 history..the SCteams of 2003 2004 would be right up there but for one season the huskies may have been the best..i know this..they by far had the best defense i've ever seen
@Workin0nit Have you never noticed that there are two polls. Did it ever cross your mind that the two polls could pick separate teams as #1. Did you not follow college football in 2003 (the last time there were co-national champs).
@Workin0nit they shared the title with miami....and you dont know about shared titles? USC shared the title in 2003 with LSU ha ha ha...system is still a failure.
Wow, dixonmixon10, were you ever even near a television or a newspaper in 1991? Final coaches poll for 1991 season...#1 Washington, #7 California, # 18 UCLA, #22 Stanford. 3-1 in bowl games. Yeah, pretty weak Pac-10 that the UW just DESTROYED like a pack of barbarians that year......would have been fun watching Norm Chow's ingenius offense trying to work with Steve Emtman in their backfield on every play. LOL
@nimsac67: UW also pulled all their starters by 4th quarter in about 9 of their 12 games. Don James was conservative and won by 34 or so pts. per game and it could have been much more. That Rose Bowl shoulda been 41-14 against the #4 team in the country. He didn't wanna rub it in and let the clock run out.
And THE YEAR BEFORE, UW was beating Iowa in the Rose Bowl 31-7 AT HALFTIME. Starters came out 1/2 thru 3rd and Iowa came back to make it LOOK close. That team almost won at #1 Colorado
The thing is in 1991 UW was the only good Pac 10 team, so duh they beat everyone by 30. USC 04 went unbeaten and won the national title outright, they didn't share it.
91 Huskies were the best pack-10 team ever.. THEY were ridiculous on defense... It was hopeless for any offense vs the 91 Huskies...

Wasn't Miami ranked 1 or 2 ? If the Huskies were ranked number one WHY did Miami and the Huskies not play ?

@funkyflights: There was no BCS. Washington was tied to the Rose Bowl since they won the Pac-10, and they could only play Michigan, the Big 10 champ.

I am biased, but that 1991 team didn't have a weak link at all. They had receiving, running, 2 good QB's, and a awesome defense.

Actually, I take that back, they beat OK State in the Holiday Bowl a few years back...must admit it was a pretty good game.

@Ichliebegermany: No way. The 98 Bruins were all offense and no defense.

Yeah, they probably were the best Pac10 team ever, to answer the question. Unlike Oregon, they actually won their bowl game.

ROFLMAO! Funny, considering that it would be the Miami players on meth in between gun violations and committing Pell Grant Fraud.
Miami played a cupcake schedule and didn't do as well with it as the Huskies did with their real schedule. Sorry you can't deal with the truth.

P10 as soft in 91 is a myth. UW rolled over everyone because they were that good. 41 ppg on O, only 9 on D and all their big games were on the road.
They had to "share" the title with a lessor Miami team because of the broken system.
U$C didn't have to share theirs because of the fake title game.
38 ppg on O, 13 on D and unranked teams took U$C to the wire. All of their big games were at home.
And U$C is going to be stripped of the title because of their massive cheating.
