Try it on after each major cut. Once it looks right, you might zig-zag or serge the edges and then sew a hem all the way around (but sew the tab together instead). Adjust as necessary for the next one (that's why I recommend one in a cheap fabric). I hope that helps!

I forgot to say that there should be like a tab for the head measurement. You can also add about 2-3 inches to the length of the headband part (including the tab) if you want a headband like this one has (I prefer it plain).

If you measure around your head and then on a folded cloth measure out half of that measurement, plus 1/4 inch (maybe more the first time you try one out on muslin or cheap cloth), then measure how long you want it plus 1/4 inch, you have the basic pattern. It takes some finesse to get the curve right, but without the template you could start with a gentle curve from the innermost folded part out to about 5 inches onto the open side, with most of the curve in the last third.

nice signing, i have been thinking of learning ASL. and i like your head covering, may i ask where you got it? and how many inches it is from the top to the bottom? i tried making 1, and it didnt turn out so good, i prefer the long coverings, the longer the better, i had no pattern to try make 1.

@muslimia99 ASL is completely a gift from God. I love it and I love working among Deaf people. They are a beautiful people with a beautiful language who need to know the beautiful Savior :-)

They're fairly easy to make, although I normally just lie mine out and trace it. (ctd next post)
