Marvellous organ with a very special tone and pitch, it's a treat to hear Paul Hong play and of course a treat to have him doing this Bach masterpiece.
wow...I should be studying right now, but I am on Youtube as usual, and you just made my day. Amazing! I love how you did justice to all the notes, HELD the chords long enough to let them ring in my head, and played with passion.
Ummm..... so only 30 people have noticed this boy? wtf's the matter with you people?!! I've never seen anyone take this over 10 minutes like this. This is the grandest expression of respect to the piece I've ever heard. He held the notes long enough! FINALLY! SOMEBODY GETS IT!! This was the morally right thing to do. Sex and organ music should be slow! Thank you, young man! You made my day!
@L00kng I totally agree with you. Very few views and comments for the grandeur of this rendition. The best version as far as phrasing is concerned is Smalin's. Except that it's not on a pipe organ...darn!!! Hong is as close to perfect as you can get. He DOES hold the notes to emphasize the power of the passages. Some organists perform staccato, and rush it in spots which kills it. Legato is definitely best. And yes, this piece is supposed to be played to blow the roof off the building!
I am truly amazed how many people, such as yourself, play this well on Youtube. I keep looking for sheet music in this video, but can't find any. Did you memorize the whole piece?

YES!!! Holding the notes in the beginning toccata is superb and adds power to this piece. Much better than those "plunky" staccato players. Kudos!
I hope there is a cd out there with this performance.
