@godbrother10 The overwhelming majority of the Irish people viewed the IRA as illegitimate for a start. Tom Maguire was the sole suriving member of the 2nd dail who transfered the powers to the army. He stated the provos were the legitimate IRA in 1969 (maybe you want to dispute that too?) and he stated the continuity were the legitimate IRA in 1987. He speaks with more authority than anyone. The statement on the end of your video is meaningless as the IRA remain intact.
@RonainMacCathain I understand the argument - I just don't agree with it ... yes Maguire recognised the Provisionals in the split and fair play to him - but in my interpretation the Provos were legitimised by the PEOPLE not on the opinion of one man no matter how much esteem he carried... just because he carried authority doesn't mean he was right that's fascist ... the people supported the path of SF and the IRA not the so-called "dissidents"
@godbrother10 You are calling the IRA fascists? The IRA were rejected by the majority of the Irish people in 1916, 1938, 1969 and 1986 and in every decade since that doesn't make them a bunch of fascists or illegitimate. The vast majority of the Irish people view the so called Irish defence force as the legitimate Oglaigh na hEireann including Martin Mcguinness. Just because the people of Ireland share McGuinness' view doesn't make it right.
@RonainMacCathain I'm not calling the IRA fascists - I'm calling the logic of adhering to the logic of one man because of his credentials alone fascist. Martin McGuinness recognised that the defence forces are the army of the 26 counties - that is the stark reality - to deny that is ignoring the situation we live in.
''I hereby declare that the Continuity Executive and the Continuity Army Council are the lawful Executive and Army Council respectively of the Irish Republican Army''
@RonainMacCathain and what? ... all respect to the man and may he rest in peace ... but just because he lived the longest it doesn't give him the right to overule the opinions of the overwhelming majority of the Irish people.
Many great Republicans supported dropping abstentionsim- John Joe McGirl, Joe Cahill and Brian Keenan - but I wouldn't go as far as saying they spoke for every comrade they ever fought with or encountered- and yet that's how dissidents treat the view of Maguire- one man
The provos don't exists anymore wake up its dissidents or no body they truth is many ex provos are joining every year to dissident factions it took nearly 2years to get hardliner brigades to talk to the mainstream sinn fein and it only takes one bullet to open it up again the hardliners never part in talks they sat back and watched the show the truth is if a civil war did eropt it would be bloody the provos who suppor tthe process would be defeated swifty they don't and haven't used guns n years
@godbrother10 i certainly don't need any dictionary i said that basically the provos don't exist and that many of them are joining the dissidents and that hardcore republicans who fought in the provos are growing uneasy with the long wait for a united ireland and are joining the likes of the RIRA and that theses groups are the infamous south armagh brigade and east tyrone too some belfast brigadiers are joining but many are with sinn fein the truth is those guys sinn fein would lose against them
@XxshughesxX you are not making any sense - I can't see what you are even referring to ... could you clarify what you meant rather than resorting to childish name calling
@godbrother10 You're smart arn't ya? You and your constructive writing... The Provos are finished your another sinn fein muke that thinks its still around... Most hardliners have now joined the dissidents and others well they are too old now aren't they? No offence but the Provos are now finished they finished in 2005 after decommissioning the guns which was kneeling down to the enemy the provos relied too much on Libya and the Yanks the dissidents got to easter europe for contacts
@XxshughesxX i'm gonna disengage from this discussion .... scanning through your profile you strike me as an imature and confused individual with a warped understanding of political reality ... I wish you all the best and hope you gain some sense
