  • my uncle will hopefully break the record at worlds next year for some of his vids look up masters of mayhem pumpkin throwers he may also be on pumpkin chuckers on both discovery and sci chanels thanksgiving 8pm

  • lol dog...

  • happy thanksgiving! now were's that turkey?

  • The mention of 7100 # of force is rather meaningless here. The key is the torque, change in angular momentum and of course, speed of the projectile.

  • yeah if that thing released that at the right angle i bet it would flyyyyy

  • wow the dog could catch the 20lb pumpkin going 240 mph for 400 feet!

  • @omgflyingbanana sadly he never catches it. He tries.... alot, but never catches it. And now that he is getting older he most certainly will never catch it.

  • @vespermk Well, that's great! IF he "catches" it, he'll have a 20lb pumpkin smashing into his head 240 mph! And I like dogs.

  • WHICH FOOL DISLIKED THIS????

  • the dawg got there before the pumpkin did!~

  • the dawg got there before the pumpkin did

  • For Halloween, carve the Jack'o'Lantern's face on it, stick a couple of vodkas and some gasoline inside it, light it up, and then fire - pun intended! :D

  • how heavy was your counter weight?

  • Hilarious

  • lol. do you allways play with your dog like that?

    others just throw bones xD

  • dude your counterweight isnt heavy enough it should be 2,660 pounds

  • Most dogs are happy if you just toss a tennis ball.

  • Hey vespermk, I am working on a school project about Archimedes, and was wondering if I would be allowed to use your video in the presentation. I would probably be using 0:25 to 1:00. If I am allowed to use this video, what credits would you like me to put into the bibliography?

  • man, that's some super fetch right there.

  • damn, that pumpkin is hauling ASSSS!!

  • can you please send to my what the length of the boom is on the side of the counter weight and on the side of the projectile than i can use that échelle to my design (i have to make one for school) thanks and i rate 5 stars for the good vid and the good description! really thanks!

  • can you send my how long the boom was on the side of the counter weight and how long the boom was on the side on the projectile than i can put that échelle in my design( i have to make a design for school) thank you very much and btw 5 stars for good vid+ good description

  • yeah go get it pooch

  • SUPER FETCH

  • "what are you doing dear"

"oh hello darling, I just had a magnificent idea, instead of throwing things for my dog to catch....i just built a giant trebuchet to do it for me"

"....and how much did it cost"

  • AWSOME ONE!!!!!!! and good camera view!!! 5 stars

  • lol i bet the dog could catch that

  • u need to have the release a little l8r and it will go alot farther

  • i bet i could catch it

  • 1. Hollow out pumpkin

    2. Fill with gasoline

    3. Wait until night

    4. Ignite

    5. Launch

    6. Put a leash on the dog this time

  • LOLLL

  • the dog is hilarious

  • good job camera man!

  • thats one hardcore game of fetch...only the pros...only the pros

  • jajajaja the dog jajajaja

  • aww! the dog :)

  • lol

  • you forgot to write that the dog is running at 16mp/h after the pumpkin

  • and his wife is cheating with the neighbor with no hurries ;)

  • seriously man you could get that to go waaay further by making it release later

  • At 52 seconds the pumpkin enters a portal where space and time are no longer relevant.

  • Little to high flight

  • Here, dog, fetch!

  • ok boy.....Fetch!

  • im making one thats 2 feet tall any ideas on what i can lunch out of it the counter weight is 45 lbs i need a good projectile

  • for maximum rang a projectile of about .5% is perfect a little heavier won't be too detrimental any lighter and you will have release problems

  • instead of having the dog run after it, just build a second one and lauch the dog and pumpkin at the same time. Maybe he'll catch it in mid air. jk

  • coolio dude!

  • Just build a miniature one that throws marbles. heh funny how the dog chases after it

  • I have a lil desktop trebuchet for the hell of it... I have fired a variaty of objexts from fire crakcers to gold balls with it...

pretty amazing how far it would shoot on full scale.

To adjust angle u need to adjust the counter-weight and legnth of the "flinging" arm(less weight sharper the angle, more weight u will get a better lob... as for the arm its same concept but i rarly mess with it).. I use pennys so its ez.

  • The dog wins.

  • Hey. im building a trebuchet of my own.. only mines for a golf ball and is 20 times smaller.. i just wanted to know how u adjust it so that the pumpkin or object launches at that angle?

  • the length and smoothness of the releasing pin long/rough-later release

    short/smooth-earlier release

  • well first do you have a sling that is detatchable? if you do you want to change the angle of the 3rd arm i think. i don't no the names. its the little bar that you have opposite the counterweight. the more angle it has the later it releases i believe. and if it was more straight the earlier it releases thus making the angle greater. If you dont have a releasable sling you should defiantly make it. I will be making a video this weekend on my 4 trebs that i made. (feb 28 2009) or so.

  • Spontaneously, I suppose it depends on the length of the rope.

  • The launch angle is complicated. It's a combination of a few factors--predominantly the hook shape for the release line and the weight of the object you're throwing. The heavier the object being thrown the better it should release. There's some definite trial and error in the process.

  • i live in Fennimore (15 min. away from lancaster,) i've been there for like 3 yrs in a row now for the corn maze and haunted house...last years was awesome!

  • It's astonishing that dog was able to reckon where that pumpkin was in mid-flight. I've scarcely found any dog that can tell were a tennis ball went after watching it leave my hand in an average living room.

  • any good bird dog can, that things cool

  • Obviously you've never seen any hunting breeds.

  • awesome dude!!!

  • Will this work with humans?

  • im pretty sure it would launch them like 40-60 feet

  • this gives me an idea for halloween

  • did the dog catch it or not?

  • I love it, now make a bigger one, oh and keep that dog away from the business end.

  • I want to see the pumpkin!

  • iv done this. it was awesome!

  • how did you make your throwing arm??? it looks like you put multiple pieces of lumber together, but how did you connect them to each other?

  • No we went through a local lumber yard that got us in touch with a custom beam and truss making factory. They special made this glue-lam beam for us.

  • @vespermk update. our beam broke last year, So we rebuilt it with 2"X10" pressure treated lumber. Glued together with a heavy duty construction adhesive. and screwed every foot. This beam is so much stronger and doesn't flex. The other beam failed because it was designed to be protected from the elements. Even though we painted it, the paint cracked from the beam flexing and moisture worked its way inside the beam and over the course of 4 years rotted it.

  • I love it =] i had to make a mini 1 for my history homework this really helped a lot!! ( i flinged a golf ball haha )

  • I like the dog chasing the pumpkin:) Now that's a big Chuck-it!

  • O M G that was so cool! i want 1 to!!!!

  • Congratulations for the great work ... Try to put something explosive to be launched and write. That would be very nice. Tks

  • k now try a boulder lol

  • hey what did you use for the counter weight?

  • Suitcase weights from an old combine, thats the orange weights. Then at the end of the beam is two weigths off a bulldozer. Then there is a few hundred pounds of steel that hold the suitcase weights and two steel plates that support the weights wrapping the beam and go all the way up to the axle

  • Your trajectory is off, it released way to soon. You can get a much better shot than that

Nice build though, just needs a few tweaks

  • It is a fickle beast. So many things that need to happen with in fractions of a second. We try to pick pumpkins that are consistent, but it is nature and there are variables. Also we discovered the forces put on the cables and pouch are unbelievable. So things get stretched, frayed and rebuilt the whole time changing lengths and release times. The machine is always getting tweaked since on busy weekends in the fall we shoot 50-75+ pumpkins! Thanks for the comment

  • well, with that many pumpkins, I guess you know better than I do. I usually go with cantaloupe, it fits mine better and the splat is much cooler I think. and we only go through 30 or so But the is one incredible machine. and I am impressed

  • lol your dog goes hell for leather after it :-) sweet as dude

great job, great camera work too.

    nice stats :)

  • hi there very cool vid , would like to know if you are a vesperman your self ????

  • Nice video. Need to bring that to punkin' chunkin' in Millsboro Delaware

  • Yes, our dog thinks it's a ball and runs after it. Sometimes he brings us back chunks of pumpkin.

  • LOL what a champion

  • how funnys' the dog

  • woah..very kwl! :O
