Youtube wasn't as popular when it first launched, therefore making it easier to get noticed. Now there are more people than ever visiting, and everybody wants that chunk of change. Also, think about when films were first introduced, they sucked but were popular because there wasn't anything like it. Now to compete you have to create something special and unique. Paranormal Activity didn't have a huge budget but they did something different and you should too. If you make it, they will come.
Think about it, if someone was giving YOU millions of dollars a minute, you would do something in return. Corrupt, yeah, well thats how most of the world works.
You keep complaining about how the little people dont get viewed? Well admitted yes, there are some rare and talented people in the youtube universe, but the ratio of crap to good is overwhelming, making it impossible to actually FIND those good people. Bottom line is that Google needs to pay the bills. In order to do that they have to make sure that YouTube is self-sufficient. They have tried and tried and tried to allow YouTube to run entirely as a community driven site with some advertising injected in. That didn't work on it's own. So now YouTube is a mishmash of community driven content as well as commercial and semi-commercial content, some of which is made up of people being paid and/or sponsored to provide new content. It pays the bills

When the ad revenue wasn't satisfying them they began their changes. nothing that you say will make them change that. Anyone can upload video on YouTube and promote themselves how they like. Some do it honestly, promote themselves, and offer frequent content updates while some others game the system and get 'featured' without doing much. How this happens, I don't know. That's Google's algorithms at work. Point is that you can't post less than 40 videos a year and/or content that few people will like and expect to get any hits, much less getting 'featured'. Not everyone can be a YouTube 'star'.

I just looked at the 4 channels that Philip DeFranco has and, honestly, I still don't see a problem. It's obvious that Philip makes his living by providing online content. And it's not at all uncommon for someone to split their content into separate channels. Philip's channels are quite distinct and wouldn't work as well if you slammed it all into just one channel. So where is this going?

The people of youtube like what they like; you can't do anything about it. Besides, how would you fix this "problem"? If Youtube has a "Random 5 Videos" or something, most people wouldn't use it. Viewers only click what they want to see and they want to see those same five people.

YouTube controls what is featured, and by featuring only the same 4 or 5 people over and over, that's not capitalism. And I'm not talking about "the most viewed"....I'm talking about being featured.
The "Featured Videos" box is just one box. There are others like "Videos Being Watched Now" and "Recommended for You". Each of these are populated using different algorithms. If the folks creating these videos in "Featured" are just good at promoting themselves so that they end up in "Featured" then what's the problem? Where is your research? Show me your data? Or do I have to do it myself and prove to you that "the same 4 or 5 people" aren't being "Featured" all the time? Jeez!
Video uploaders don't control if they are featured or not. YouTube controls that. It has nothing to do with promoting themselves. By the way, featured videos are on almost every page, usually at the bottom right corner, below "related videos"

There aren't even any tags in the video. ...So, go for it.
Ok, so all you've proved so far is that 'Featured' isn't based on what I watch or what I've subscribed to but is based on some other kind of algorithm. I honestly do not believe that 'Featured' videos are picked out by the YouTube staff. There's just too much content for that to happen. If I had to guess, I would say that the reason why someone like RayWilliamJohnson keeps getting featured is because he puts out at least a video a week, knows how to promote new videos, and gets a ton of hits.
Do me a favor...on the homepage or on a video page, hit the refresh button and take a look at the 'featured' box. Now, pay attention to what is being shown then hit refresh again..and again. Notice that they keep changing to random selections? Keep refreshing. Notice any that are being repeated? Could any of these be based on stuff you've watched recently? Could some of this be attributed to you watching stuff you're not interested in but watched anyways so you could complain about it?
I use several computers, it's always the same. I've seen YouTube from Friends and Relatives computers....still the same. Look, you can't talk yourself out of the fact that these same 'ole people are being promoted continuously. Anyone that I know that frequently comes to YouTube has the same complaint, just as those in this video.
I think what you're complaining about is the fact that YouTube's algorithms have a tendency to reflect the interests of the public visiting and watching YouTube videos. As such, the algorithms are showing stuff like RayWilliamJohnson, iJustine, and such because those are the ones that are being watched and promoted heavily. Seems to me that there is a lot of people who like silly shit. Maybe you're the minority. I don't know. What I do know is that your argument isn't constructive. Need research
organizing these giant masses of content and digital waste we're producing will be a real challenge for mankind in order to not get lost within it and the confusion caused by it...
as tough as it might be...youtube's got to pay the bills...form a video "club" and fund it, keep advertisements out...
we're all subsidizing youtube and other media by buying products, these cause , marketing revenue and therfore fundig for media, that wouldn't be around without it...that's unfortuanetly true...
the other competition here is the one for attention...big phenomena have always drawn masses,absorbing them, thereby growing, it's the network effect...in nature also called gravity(;-)

Youtube wasn't as popular when it first launched, therefore making it easier to get noticed. Now there are more people than ever visiting, and everybody wants that chunk of change. Also, think about when films were first introduced, they sucked but were popular because there wasn't anything like it. Now to compete you have to create something special and unique. Paranormal Activity didn't have a huge budget but they did something different and you should too. If you make it, they will come.

Bottom line is that Google needs to pay the bills. In order to do that they have to make sure that YouTube is self-sufficient. They have tried and tried and tried to allow YouTube to run entirely as a community driven site with some advertising injected in. That didn't work on it's own. So now YouTube is a mishmash of community driven content as well as commercial and semi-commercial content, some of which is made up of people being paid and/or sponsored to provide new content. It pays the bills

Of course it's all about the money, Google didn't buy it just to own another part of the internet. They bought it because they thought it would be a meaningful investment. When the ad revenue wasn't satisfying them they began their changes. nothing that you say will make them change that. Anyone can upload video on YouTube and promote themselves how they like. Some do it honestly, promote themselves, and offer frequent content updates while some others game the system and get 'featured' without doing much. How this happens, I don't know. That's Google's algorithms at work. Point is that you can't post less than 40 videos a year and/or content that few people will like and expect to get any hits, much less getting 'featured'. Not everyone can be a YouTube 'star'.

Ok, so your problem is that people who make YouTube videos for a living are being featured and not you. I just looked at the 4 channels that Philip DeFranco has and, honestly, I still don't see a problem. It's obvious that Philip makes his living by providing online content. And it's not at all uncommon for someone to split their content into separate channels. Philip's channels are quite distinct and wouldn't work as well if you slammed it all into just one channel. So where is this going?

No offense, but this is really unnecessary. All I see in this vid is people complaining about the front page, or their failure to gain subscribers. Why care? If you're trying to gain a lot of subscribers and be popular, just make an amazing video. Also, not everyone can be on the front page. Sure, it's the same people, but that's because they have charisma, or they're just another dumb partner. Well, that's the purpose of the featured page. It shows the top views, and if those same people get the top views, it shows them. The people of youtube like what they like; you can't do anything about it. Besides, how would you fix this "problem"? If Youtube has a "Random 5 Videos" or something, most people wouldn't use it. Viewers only click what they want to see and they want to see those same five people.

The "Featured Videos" box is just one box. There are others like "Videos Being Watched Now" and "Recommended for You". Each of these are populated using different algorithms. If the folks creating these videos in "Featured" are just good at promoting themselves so that they end up in "Featured" then what's the problem? Where is your research? Show me your data? Or do I have to do it myself and prove to you that "the same 4 or 5 people" aren't being "Featured" all the time? Jeez!

Video uploaders don't control if they are featured or not. YouTube controls that. It has nothing to do with promoting themselves. By the way, featured videos are on almost every page, usually at the bottom right corner, below "related videos"

Do they have people whose sole job is to troll YouTube and 'feature' certain ones? Or are there algorithms that do that for them? Considering the amount of content I'll go with the later. Now, I'll bet you can't refresh that page 4 times without seeing a ShaneDawson, ShayTards, iJustine, RayWilliamJohnson, or Sxephil video. It has nothing to do with algorithms. Ok, so all you've proved so far is that 'Featured' isn't based on what I watch or what I've subscribed to but is based on some other kind of algorithm. I honestly do not believe that 'Featured' videos are picked out by the YouTube staff. There's just too much content for that to happen. If I had to guess, I would say that the reason why someone like RayWilliamJohnson keeps getting featured is because he puts out at least a video a week, knows how to promote new videos, and gets a ton of hits.

Do me a favor...on the homepage or on a video page, hit the refresh button and take a look at the 'featured' box. Now, pay attention to what is being shown then hit refresh again..and again. Notice that they keep changing to random selections? Keep refreshing. Notice any that are being repeated? Could any of these be based on stuff you've watched recently? Could some of this be attributed to you watching stuff you're not interested in but watched anyways so you could complain about it?

Look, you can't talk yourself out of the fact that these same 'ole people are being promoted continuously. I think what you're complaining about is the fact that YouTube's algorithms have a tendency to reflect the interests of the public visiting and watching YouTube videos. As such, the algorithms are showing stuff like RayWilliamJohnson, iJustine, and such because those are the ones that are being watched and promoted heavily.
