for example in regular jj, if they want to do a technique called a kimura (a shoulder lock where u need a 90degrees bend in the oponents elbow to apply it) a regular jj guy may just grab the wrist and force the arm in2 90degrees then pop out the shoulder where as a bjj guy may be a bit smarter
Hey also, I dont know the difference between regular jujitsu and brazilian jujitsu. What is different? PS- I met Royce Gracie. I use to work in the same town as his dojo. He came into my store. First I caught notice of his cauliflower ears yuk haha. He was with his girlfriend. It was cool to see him.
the difference is in the evolution in that regularjj (japanese jj) hasn't changed much as aposed to bjj, as bjj evolves more we find ways to make things happen using minimum strength maximum leverage etc, things like trickery and versatility of techniques come in2 it too.
I guess we all think our martial art is the best. I think it suits my personality. Where you may like to ground and pound. I like to throw and go. haha. I myself think a aikidoka would do fine on the street or in a competition. Even if there is no fight, a majority of aikido is defensive. But whatever. Most thugs would probably trip because their pants was hanging down too low anyways. haha. cheers
I just dont think Aikido is compatible with UFC. The sport calls for KO's and and submissions. Aikido has a lot of throws and joint locks. What do you think?
agreed, i still don't think it fares against mma/bjj either on streets or competition although it would work against a street thug so long as u follow up with head stomping etc because a guy isn't finished by falling down and a restraining small joint lock will restrain but is risky if he has mates. either way we both have the same ancestors i just thing bjj has evolved more.
Probably because UFC does not allow small joint locks. So that wouldnt leave a lot of moves left. Most UFC fighters wouldnt charge in. They would move around and find an opening. So I agree with your position=submission.
the guy u slammed in2 the corner of a filing cabonet, if he had put u on the ground, flattened u out face 1st like a pancake then sunk the choke in wouldn't even be able 2 stand up, basic principal of bjj, consolidate position before submission. position=submition, he did not have position b/c u were able 2 move effectively 2 ur advantage n slam him.
There's no use saying I can't beat u cause it's on the net and u probs wouldn't say it in rl, u'd pull some shit out at the last minute like aikido is a non violent m.a. n about peace n harmony n it degrades the human being for us 2 fight etc. lol peace n harmony is over rated, being an effected fighter that doesn't have philosophies to stop himself from getting his ass whooped is where it's at...atleast for me,
No one is ragging on bjj, you were the one posted a rag on Aikido and beating up some guy. We dont really care what you think. For us Aikido works, for you bjj works. I dont care what you have to say. Its all meaningless... you'll never prove your point. Beating up someone doesnt prove the martial art isnt effective, it just proves that person you fought wasnt trained enough and that you are a loser. I dont see what pounding someones face solves.
Umm no arts don't work for some and not for others, if you put someone in an armbar, their arm doesn't bend the wrong way no matter who it is just like someone will be unconcious when the caroted artery is blocked off from a choke due preventing blood from reaching the head. Wristlocks and other aikido techniques have low success rate period, if someone else is doing it with the same technical detail, the success rate/percentage doesn't increase. Bjj works for me, as it does for you.
Blah blah blah, who cares. Bjj is for faggs. You wouldnt be able to beat my nerd ass. Someone tried to choke me once and I slammed them into the corner of a filing cabinet. Solved that. Go get naked and hump your opponent.
how can you asume i dont know anything if you've never met me or watched me train? i dont think i'm awesome but i'm 6-2-0 in mma and state bjj champion in my devision and i made it to finals 2 weightclasses up from me so i must at least know even a little bit about combat and YEEESSS..i know sport bjj is different to street etc but there's a difference between sport bjj and self defence bjj.
i was just clearing up the fact that playing diry is no advantage to the traditional m.a.ist because the mma fighter has that advantage too only the rest of his "non dirty" combat repotoire is better than the traditional m.a.ist. please tell me why there are no aikido ufc champions let alone ufc fighters?
As an answer to your question "who said aikidoists can't play dirty also" I never said they couldn't, it's just so many anti mma/bjj martial artists say if you fight an mma/bjj fighter bite him, gauge him, groin strike etc,
that is not bad aikido and that is not strangth .. looking at the body of seagal we kan know easly that he is not a physically strong man but his technique right there is very good..
steven seagal doesn't show a nice calm spirit of budo in his films and i hope he atleast does that in real life.. it is difficult for anyone to be calm and loving its much harder to win against the inner ennemy that wich is the hard heart then to win against an army of enemies.
Aikido is pathetic, last year I fought an Aikido guy at my gym and took him down, mounted him, pounded his nerdy try to be bhuddist face til he rolled over and gave me his back so i chocked him out and anyone who does bjj/mma would do the same to you. Talk about your harmony you get from aikido all you want but the only harmony you'll find is the harmony of sleeping from a tight rear naked choke.
Yeh ok, grow up you watch too much UFC. We all know you dont know anything. BJJ is overrated. Try using your BJJ against more than 1 attacker at a time puss.
Ummm No bjj person ever said to go to the ground against multiple oponents. And since when is a bjj person not gonna fight dirty too? Who says he's not gonna bite and eye gauge and fishhook and strike the groin? If your aikido doesn't work against 1 oponent then how do you justify it working against multiple attackers. I dont know anything because I'm an mma fighter who whatches ufc? Then i dare you, make the statement that you could beat any ufc champion with your aikido, go I dare you.
Aikido does work with 1 opponent and as well for multiple. Police train in Aikido. You dont see them going to the ground with criminals. Who said Aikidoists cant play dirty also? How can you say an art that came from roots of art that were battle tested hundreds of years ago wont work. The guy you beat up probably has not has much training. He hasnt learned you knee someone when then drop to the ground. We all know your story is a lie anyways. And yes, Aikido would dominate in UFC.
nope you dont know my story is a lie and yes police train aikido and my best friend is a policeman who does bjj but they only train the restraining techniques of it, police are aiming for restraint. and if aikido would do well in ufc then aikido would be a part of mma. and the army does bjj too.
as for aikido being battle tested, that's true but in those battles (samurai) there was no point punching someone who was clad in armour now was their? and samurai would have a hard time rolling out of wristlocks and such in that kind of armour. japanese jujitsu was also a samurai art vigorously tested which is the ansestor of judo and these two arts are the ansestor of bjj.
He's a big guy and I wouldn't want to mess with him but I think he has forgotten lots of O-Senseis teachings of aikido and replaced it with brute strenght. Of course in self defence that suites him, but is that Aikido? Not in my opinion.
Propably the best thing he has done to Aikido is the movies, beeing the first spark for many people to go to the dojo for the first time to get to know what Aikido is really about.
(P3) Some people might say "who are you to judge"... Although I am only a 2dan myself and currently training at the Hombu Dojo and Tada Sensei's (9th dan aikikai) Dojo, I believe I have seen enough to have an opinion!
(P2) He moved to Osaka in Japan and ended up marrying the grand masters daughter, then suddenly moved from 2dan to 6dan in no time at all.... it is also said (although I am not saying its true as I dont know) that he paid off a high ranking tibetent monk to give him the buddist title of the great one...
(P1) Seagal was never good from day one. A bold statement but one that, after watching all his earlier videos, is one that I believe in. His movies are great, and there is no doubt his a guy you would never mess with, but his aikido was always average.
the technique is actually akinage, iri-minage would have shown the arm crossing the body and the topside of the left forearm pressing against the uke's chest with tori's palm facing up.. both techniques are actually meant to be throws not strikes. Segal's looks like a strike b/c of the spinal tap he delivers to the lower back of uke.
basically irimi nage. aikido is totally about harmony, but the uke decides how much energy he puts into it. this uke used a lot of energy coming in so he recieved the equal amount. also, it doesnt hit the larynx unless you do it wrong, its more of a strike to the side of the neck.
Nope, just someone who thinks that Aikido is about harmony, that video didn't show a bit of it. Unless that video was about showing aikido's effectiveness.
