@brandonhillen I can show the original artist because two of my neighbors grew up in the 60's-70's and one of them has the original recording on cassette and remember the CD came out in 1991 and by the time Mark Cohn's version came out it was on the CD I know what the original version sounds like if Mark Cohn's voice fits the song then I will apologize for my stupidity

And while Cohn does reference Elvis in the verse the opening line about Blue Suede Shoes is actually his personal reference to Carl Perkins who recorded Blue Suede Shoes before Elvis did. And Marc Cohn is white.

I actually rather like this version...a little more heavy-handed than the original, but that's actually how Mark Cohn is playing it live these days, with more of a rock/gospel feel than as laid back as the original studio recording was. I love both versions by Lonestar and Marc Cohn. Same song but different sound. Both are truly very good in their own unique way and Eli Mattson did a good job a few years ago on Americas Got Talent. My opinion is that there really isnt a better version. It's just a great song, no matter who sings it :)
