Yeah, it's a pretty common occurrence here in southern california. What happens is the strong winds pick up the ash and smoke, and are able to carry it miles and miles across the region. I'm about 40 miles away from the largest of the fires right now, and we're still getting some smoke out this way.
I was really close to the fire. I went to a retreat with my friend's church on Friday and we happened to go to a place close to the fire. Ashes were falling off the sky and the sky looked all messed up. It's really hot right now because of the fire. I'm sweating like hell and it's 8:30 P.M.
Wow, it must have been scary being so close to the fire. The last time I had really heavy falling ashes in my area was in Nov of last year...the freeway complex fire. But supposedly the ashes in your area are really bad...it's that thick smoke that's creating a "blanket-like" effect, keeping in all that warm air. Out here in Chino Hills, we're at a warm, but cooler 75 deg!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Appreciate it!! And stay safe out there!!
Really? Very nice area!! It'd definitely been much hotter than average this past week or so...hopefully we get some relief later this week!! How is the smoke/ash in your area? I've hear that the ash had been falling in places as far as downtown LA.
when I worked for Countrywide Home Loans the let the fire come up right to the parking lot with the smoke and 50 foot flames. Very hard to breathe. But they cared more for profits than safety. Anyone with asthma inhaling that stuff would have surely been injured or worse.
but in october 2005 profits were worth more than lives. This was right after the New Orleans Countrywide was destroyed! unbelievable greed.
Yeah, it's been pretty hot and dry recently...yesterday we hit 110 F, about 43 C with a relative humidity of 9% in some areas, so the fires have been taking advantage of that.
And as for the views, I like to drive up to the peak of the hills, and take some long distance videos, usually before any chases...On a clear day, the skies can be absolutely amazing!
How has your weather been the past few days? Hopefully not as hot, and not so many fires!
I didn't have to evacuate, but hundreds of other folks have had to, unfortunately.
Last year's Nov fires were the worst...Thousands of evacuations (I was under a voluntary). There were a number of fires burning at that time, and the one close to me had joined with another, and passed to my north.
I wish I still had the footage of the event...unfortunately only pictures remain. If I can locate them, I'll try to upload.
Thanks for watching and commenting!! I greatly appreciate It!!
It was pretty interesting to see in it's early stages...It was burning so quickly due to the low humidity and dry winds. Thanks for watching and for your kind comment!! Appreciate it!
Very coool ! Interesting cloud smog, it looks like ash from volcano eruption. Excellente capture on video !

Cool video...I especially like the time lapse of the giant smoke cloud.

Thanks! I figured since I was unable to chase the fire up close that day, I'd take some time lapse from a distance.

It's is unbelievable what some will do for greed. Especially when it risks the lives/health of others. Very sad!
