  • Aahhh - memories of doing my homework while listening to Annie Nightingale play spendid songs like this that made you find a spare piece of paper to write down the details of the single you needed to buy!!!

  • Oh my goodness... I have all of Bjork's albums; now I need to get all of the Sugarcubes!

  • remember how long this was number one in the indie charts...forever...and then some. Followed by Sundays Cant be sure for another year or so

  • i love the bassline

  • Just awesome. Sugarcubes burned so bright for such a short time.

  • would anyone consider this shoegaze?theres no wrong answer

  • Yes, Me Gusta haha

  • this is literally the shittiest music I have ever heard... and the most disturbing music video ever... I mean was this a joke? I would rather watch "Its friday" by Rebecca Black

  • @Japskimo88 Of course it is not a joke. This is basically a typical 80's video. The music, however is very different, but Bjork was not one to have music like everybody else. She is unique, and that uniqueness won her many awards for her music and even an award for the movie she starred in. Like or leave it, she is better than you, or me.

  • @Japskimo88 Then go watch Friday instead, nobody is stopping you

  • @Japskimo88 go right ahead

  • this needs at least 1 million views.

  • still listing this in 2012

  • I like the original Icelandic/Danish version better.

Had wondered if they used same music to overdub the English version.. comparing the 2... prob IS, but screwed around w/, and the pitch is altered, (corrected in fact. -Turns out this is 'note true', key of C. Seems the older version was sped up a bit.)

I like the words I can't understand better than these, and the blue monochrome girl of the ori. vid I saw back in 1988...so sweet.

  • Bjork's just in Bjork world. Don't think she's ever taken part in real life. crazy bitch , great artist.

  • I so wish I could spend just one week with Bjork!!!

  • extremely emotional. possibly their best song ever.

  • Strong Cocteau Twins influence that I hadn't noticed before.

  • I wonder.... from what planet she has come....to enrich music on earth.....

  • @zareen76 She is like marmite people either really lover her music or hate it and I happen to be one that loves it!

  • I'm sixteen and I think I was born in the wrong decade. This music is splendid.

  • @RadexxxHippie same here :D

  • @RadexxxHippie haha but that's it, you were exacly born in the 90's :)

  • @RadexxxHippie It doesn't matter when you were born.Good music is good music. I used to think I was born too late (1971), because of all the great music in the 60's, but I can enjoy that music and the music that was current while I was growing up.

  • It's almost post-punk, the bass is so cool

  • Don't know where I heard this so many years ago, loved her voice then, still love it now

  • Björk birthday today, and also mine!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (well, at least she's not annoying as Nina in 99 Luft Balloons. Someone need to slap her! lol)...

  • I've been lookin' for this weird-ass song from bjork for a long time. I first heard it on the intercom in a major hotel in Tallahassee, FL. I don't even remember how I knew it was her who sung the song, but search for years. Wierd-ass, retarded screamin' from a grow woman... Guess I'm a weird music lover too! I shall download this to my mp3 player now... to go along wit my gangsta rap... :)

  • I don't know why, I mean, I speak English, but I prefer the Icelandic version.

  • A woman of true beauty. In voice and in creation...

  • Saw The Sugarcubes on 4 occasions in Scotland and every time they just got better.. Bjork then, and indeed now, was a stand out star. You just knew she would go on to bigger and better things. Best moment: The whole band totally confused by a Glasgow Barrowlands audience chanting: Birthday, Birthday, over and over again. They couldn't make out what was being said. Einar even put a mic to a girl in the front row but still couldn't understand what was being said. Poor English - ours, not theirs

  • love

  • How adorable is she?!

  • Goodness this is excellent.

  • these lyrics are really sad..

  • this song always makes me cry, today is my birthday and i have thi bittersweet ntaste of life when I listen to this song.

  • its her birthday today :) dontcha know!!!

  • @ZIPGUN101 I wish! so we can have the same birthday, she was born november 21st. <3

  • @madrereus16 lol somebody told me :)

  • @madrereus16 cool song tho :)

  • Brilliant Lady

  • WOW

Her voice is so unique and expressive.

I'm so surprised that I just found about her a week ago....

Why isn't she talked about much in the States? or was I just ignorant?

  • @moca545

Because she's not from here and everyone wants to hear robotic nonsense here.

  • @moca545 we're both in the states and we both found her, I'm just happy knowing that.

  • Bjork embodies a level of cuteness one may see every century or so.

  • Do those eyeballs on that plate seriously remind anyone else of Pan's Labyrinth?

  • ...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me...thank you...oh..you're WELCOME !

  • It's my birthday today. I'm wearing a t-shirt with the 'Birthday' cover on it!

  • the singer should go solo! :D

  • @Cuythulu joking right?

  • @Cuythulu

    she did

  • This is the most delightful birthday song ever written and I'm dedicating it to my beautiful Rottweiler Dolly because she's 7 today!

  • Such a cute song.

  • What is this ABOUT?

  • This song is absoloutely amazing!

  • I always put this song on my birthday....oops it's today! I love Björk!

  • björk's the boss.

  • I've always loved this song, but never saw the video until today, and I love it too. It brings back fond memories of my trip to Iceland in 2005.

  • love her voice, but imagine her as a pissed-off sister!

  • I HAVE MOST OF HER MUSIC ,THE FIRST CD I HEARD WAS HOMGENIC ,I WAS IN THE VILLAGE NYC AT THE NOW CLOSED STORE VENUS RECORDS AND THEY WERE PLAYING IT AND I ASKED WHO IS THIS. THEY SAID BJORK ,SINCE THAN I BEEN A FAN,AWESOME,,, I FOUND SOME OF MY BEST MUSIC I THE VILLAGE...... GOD BLESS ..

  • b e a u t i f u l *w* ♥

  • I can't see this song being about pedophilia as someone suggested... I can't imagine a 5 year old smoking cigars... unless she's mentally disabled and has the mind of a 5 year old. Or is that over-analyzing?

  • o.o stares at her face..." ahhhh ahhhh ahhhouahh."

  • wow...what a voice!

  • SOW A BIRD IN YOUR KNICKERS - best chat up line ever.

  • This was the song where I first thought, "Jesus, this chick is the Jimi Hendrix of female vocalists!" She does things with her voice that no one had done before, or has done since.

  • Bjork

  • She's painting huge books And glues them together They saw a big raven It glided down the sky She touched it Today is a birthday They're smoking cigars He's got a chain of flowers And sows a bird in her knickers They're smoking cigars They lie in the bathtub A chain of ... flowers
  • She lives in this house over there Has her world outside it Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth She's five years old Thread worms on a string Keeps spiders in her pocket Collects fly wings in a jar Scrubs horse flies And pinches them on a line She has one friend, he lives next door They're listenening to the weather He knows how many freckles she's got She scratches his beard
  • strange and beautiful very poetic too.

  • Younger Bjork is actually pretty hot. I would ;) lol

  • Strange beautiful country, just like Bjork´s face and voice.

  • Comment removed

  • Spiders in her pocket...

  • Their best song, why? Because Einar isn't in it haha.

  • @DyingSID666 cold blooded

  • Comment removed

  • Robert Smith called, he wants his laugh back.

  • Wellllll, it's not about exactly about coming of age. It's about an older man in an inappropriate relationship with a 5 year old child. But I still love it.

  • @DieMagmaDieStudios No it's not.

  • @KansenChan Not really. Do you even know what it's about?

  • i'd forgotten just how much i love this song <3

  • oh man... there's a real strange, beguiling beauty to Bjork? a truly fascinating human being.

I'M GOING TO MARRY BJORK. I don't care if she has kids older than me, THEY'LL DO AS I SAY GODDAMNIT

  • I want to move to Iceland

  • excellent.

  • sugarcubes are cool.

  • i'm not a police officer either, DrZin. and don't put words in my mouth. it's pointless to even try to have a decent discussion with you.

  • ohhh I miss Iceland...

  • Bjork was very cute in her day

  • i'm not a dude, dude. how could you possibly know that she put a ridiculous amount of drugs through her system? and even if that were the case, wouldn't the drugs have come from her exposure to western culture in the first place?

  • @skinnymexicanbuddha People only abuse drugs in the Western world? Not sure I agree with your police work there . . .

  • poor bjork, sucked dry by the western world and spit right back out again. what a waste...

  • @skinnymexicanbuddha while she don't stop singing it won't be a waste

  • @skinnymexicanbuddha Huh? I'd say the ridiculous amount of drugs she pushed through her system did her more damage than any western culture exposure dude.

  • Bjork touch my talala.

  • I've just remembered one of my favourite NME covers about the Sugarcubes - 'Is Einar a Fuckwit or What?' with an appropriate picture of him

  • What is she even saying?

  • @TeamDBTB Stop trying to be a smart ass, and try looking up the lyrics if you can't understand.

Lame attempt at trying to undermine her. Nice trolling. +1 internet points to you.

  • she literally does not age!

  • pause @ 3:45

  • @clokwize LAWLZ

  • I wish youtube was in 80's - this song would have 100 000 000 views.

  • @McSnurf

The thing is: The Sugarcubes were not popular during the 80s. Crap like Culture Club was.

  • drool, agian drool, drool some more, and lots of drool.....when i die i want to come back as her undies!!!!!!!!

  • This song really makes me sad...about what happened to MTV.

  • instead of some pedophile/creeper person, this could potentially be about a girl whose friends with a mentally disabled male neighbor friend. i met mentally disabled girl who had the mentality of small child, despite the fact that she was 18 or 19 years old. that could be a possibility to, could it not? either way, this video is like many other 80's videos, with its bright colors and creepy atmosphere. but the song is good! :)

  • jeah thank´s 100 people´s ^^

  • its about a five year old who is having an affair with an old man neighboor. She is attending his birthday party...yea its creepy, but its still an awesome song

  • Amazing song, unique, ambient and haunting. Great :D

  • wow, I didn't think Bjork had pipes! Nice!

  • Great song! Typical shitty/makes no sense 80's video though.

  • @TeaPips No, you're wrong. The video makes perfect sense. It doesn't have to be so goddam obvious.

  • Great song. Thank you.

  • Schönst lied aus Eisland !

  • Could someone please explain the lyrics and meaning of this song? I love how it sounds, I just wish I understood the song :(

  • @MisterJoshuaJohn see top comment.

  • I like her. She definitly isnt one of those singers who try to look pretty when they sing though. (At least not in this video) heehhe

  • @Melloheart you're a moron.

  • @Melloheart go back listen to your ugly american musics and your ugly american country LOL

  • @Melloheart your so right ! LOL all i can is say WTF.

  • Takes me back to the "Alternative" music scene during the late 1980's-mid '90s(The New Wave scene slowly died sometime during the late eighties but rebirthed into "Alternative".Remember Mtv's "120 Minutes" or "Alternative Nation").

  • One of the most darkly disturbing numbers ever recorded. Read the lyrics and seriously consider what the song is about. Ditto for 'Motorcrash' off the same album; that number was obviously influenced by J G Ballard.

  • maybe one of the worst music videos ever produced oh well

  • I have always been a big fan of The Sugercubes, you never get tired of the special sound there is in post punk.

  • She seriously has one of the most adorable faces in the world.

  • @Beram42 I think she sounds really cute in this song

  • @Beram42 Yeah, It's a little ridiculous!!! She's insanely cute.

  • @Beram42 yes

  • @Beram42 And an awesome voice.

  • the song is about a 5 year old girl in love with her 50 year old neighbor and it's his birthday

bjork said so herself that was the song is about go to her website and you'll see

  • not quite as good as the human behavior video but still a killer video here

  • this was on my favourites, until subscriber deleted it. so good to see it back, ty :)

  • i have always loved this song since the first time i heard it

  • This song is all about coming-of-age, and it's mesmerizing how Bjork can illustrate the feelings that come along with that and correlate the lyrics with her facial expressions. This is the song that put Sugarcubes and Bjork on the map, and rightfully so. Can't get enough of it.

  • @spidersoma and is interesting how amazing she looks... like she is not aging...

  • @spidersoma i understand everything but the facial expressions, she looks like she's high on something with those facial expressions
